1 Then Jerubbaal, the same, is Gideon, and all the people that were with him, rose up early, and encamped by the fountain of Harod,and, the camp of Midian, was on the north of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the vale.
1 Então, Jerubaal, que é Gideão, se levantou de madrugada, e todo o povo que com ele estava, e se acamparam junto à fonte de Harode, de maneira que o arraial dos midianitas lhe ficava para o norte, no vale, defronte do outeiro de Moré.
2 And Yahweh said unto Gideon, Too many, are the people that are with thee, for me to deliver the Midianites into their hand,lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand, hath saved me.
2 Disse o Senhor a Gideão: É demais o povo que está contigo, para eu entregar os midianitas nas suas mãos; Israel poderia se gloriar contra mim, dizendo: A minha própria mão me livrou.
3 Now, therefore, proclaim, I pray thee, in the ears of the people, saying, Whoso feareth and tremblethlet him turn and go hack from Mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty-two thousand, and, ten thousand, remained.
3 Apregoa, pois, aos ouvidos do povo, dizendo: Quem for tímido e medroso, volte e retire-se da região montanhosa de Gileade. Então, voltaram do povo vinte e dois mil, e dez mil ficaram.
4 Then said Yahweh unto GideonYet, are the people too many, take them down unto the waters, that I may prove them for thee, there,and it shall be, that, he of whom I say unto thee, This one, shall go with thee, the same, shall go with thee, and, every one of whom I say unto thee, This one, shall not go with thee, the same, shall not go.
4 Disse mais o Senhor a Gideão: Ainda há povo demais; faze-os descer às águas, e ali tos provarei; aquele de quem eu te disser: este irá contigo, esse contigo irá; porém todo aquele de quem eu te disser: este não irá contigo, esse não irá.
5 So he took down the people unto the waters,and Yahweh said unto GideonEvery one that lappeth with his tongue of the water, as a dog lappeth, thou shalt set him by himself, likewise, every one that boweth down upon his knees, to drink.
5 Fez Gideão descer os homens às águas. Então, o Senhor lhe disse: Todo que lamber a água com a língua, como faz o cão, esse porás à parte, como também a todo aquele que se abaixar de joelhos a beber.
6 And so it was, that, the number of them that lapped with their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men,but, all the rest of the people, bowed down on their knees, to drink water.
6 Foi o número dos que lamberam, levando a mão à boca, trezentos homens; e todo o restante do povo se abaixou de joelhos a beber a água.
7 Then said Yahweh unto GideonBy the three hundred men that lapped, will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thy hand; and let, all the people, go every man to his own place.
7 Então, disse o Senhor a Gideão: Com estes trezentos homens que lamberam a água eu vos livrarei, e entregarei os midianitas nas tuas mãos; pelo que a outra gente toda que se retire, cada um para o seu lugar.
8 So the people took provisions in their hand, and their horns, but, every man of Israel besides, sent he away every man to his home, whereas, the three hundred men, he retained. Now, the camp of Midian, was beneath him in the vale.
8 Tomou o povo provisões nas mãos e as trombetas. Gideão enviou todos os homens de Israel cada um à sua tenda, porém os trezentos homens reteve consigo. Estava o arraial dos midianitas abaixo dele, no vale.
9 And it came to pass, on that night, that Yahweh said unto him, Arise! go down against the camp,for I have delivered it into thy hand.
9 Sucedeu que, naquela mesma noite, o Senhor lhe disse: Levanta-te e desce contra o arraial, porque o entreguei nas tuas mãos.
10 Or, if, thou, art afraid to go down, go downthou and Purah thy young man, unto the camp;
10 Se ainda temes atacar, desce tu com teu moço Pura ao arraial;
11 so shalt thou hear what they shall say,and, afterward, shall thy hands grow strong, and thou shalt go down against the camp. Then went he down, he and Purah his young man, unto the outmost part of the armed men that were in the camp.
11 e ouvirás o que dizem; depois, fortalecidas as tuas mãos, descerás contra o arraial. Então, desceu ele com seu moço Pura até à vanguarda do arraial.
12 Now, the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the sons of the east, were lying along in the vale, like locusts for multitude,their camels also, were without number, as the sand that is by the sea side, for multitude.
12 Os midianitas, os amalequitas e todos os povos do Oriente cobriam o vale como gafanhotos em multidão; e eram os seus camelos em multidão inumerável como a areia que há na praia do mar.
13 And Gideon came in, and lo! a man relating to his neighbour a dream,and he saidLo! a dream, have I dreamt, and lo! a round cake of barley bread tumbling into the camp of Midian, and it came as far as the tentand smote it that it fell, and turned it upside down, and the tent lay along.
13 Chegando, pois, Gideão, eis que certo homem estava contando um sonho ao seu companheiro e disse: Tive um sonho. Eis que um pão de cevada rodava contra o arraial dos midianitas e deu de encontro à tenda do comandante, de maneira que esta caiu, e se virou de cima para baixo, e ficou assim estendida.
14 Then responded his neighbour and said:Nothing else, is this, than the sword of Gideon son of Joash, a man of Israel,God hath delivered into his hand, both Midian and all the host.
14 Respondeu-lhe o companheiro e disse: Não é isto outra coisa, senão a espada de Gideão, filho de Joás, homem israelita. Nas mãos dele entregou Deus os midianitas e todo este arraial.
15 And it was so, when Gideon heard the story of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he bowed himself down,and returned unto the camp of Israel, and saidArise! for Yahweh hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.
15 Tendo ouvido Gideão contar este sonho e o seu significado, adorou; e tornou ao arraial de Israel e disse: Levantai-vos, porque o Senhor entregou o arraial dos midianitas nas vossas mãos.
16 And he divided the three hundred men, into three companies,and put horns into the hands of them all, with empty pitchers, and torches inside the pitchers.
16 Então, repartiu os trezentos homens em três companhias e deu-lhes, a cada um nas suas mãos, trombetas e cântaros vazios, com tochas neles.
17 Then he said unto them, On me, shall ye look, and, in like manner, shall ye do,and lo! when I am coming unto the outermost part of the camp, then shall it be, that, as I do, so, shall ye do.
17 E disse-lhes: Olhai para mim e fazei como eu fizer. Chegando eu às imediações do arraial, como fizer eu, assim fareis.
18 When I shall blow with the horn, I and all who are with me, then shall, ye also, round about all the camp, blow with your horns, and shall say, For Yahweh and for Gideon!
18 Quando eu tocar a trombeta, e todos os que comigo estiverem, então, vós também tocareis a vossa ao redor de todo o arraial e direis: Pelo Senhor e por Gideão!
19 So Gideon came, and the hundred men that were with him, unto the outermost part of the camp, at the beginning of the middle watch, they had but, newly set, the watchers,and they blew with the horns, and brake in pieces the pitchers, that were in their hand.
19 Chegou, pois, Gideão e os cem homens que com ele iam às imediações do arraial, ao princípio da vigília média, havendo-se pouco tempo antes trocado as guardas; e tocaram as trombetas e quebraram os cântaros que traziam nas mãos.
20 Yea the three companies blew with the horns, and shivered the pitchers, and caught holdwith their left handsof the torches, while, in their right hands, were the horns, to blow with,and they cried, A sword for Yahweh, and for Gideon!
20 Assim, tocaram as três companhias as trombetas e despedaçaram os cântaros; e seguravam na mão esquerda as tochas e na mão direita, as trombetas que tocavam; e exclamaram: Espada pelo Senhor e por Gideão!
21 And they stood still, every man in his place, round about the camp,and all the host ran and shouted, and fled.
21 E permaneceu cada um no seu lugar ao redor do arraial, que todo deitou a correr, e a gritar, e a fugir.
22 When the three hundred blew the horns, Yahweh set the sword of every man, against his neighbour, and against all the host,and the host fled, as far as the Place of Acacias, towards Zererath, as far as the border of Abel-meholah, by Tabbath.
22 Ao soar das trezentas trombetas, o Senhor tornou a espada de um contra o outro, e isto em todo o arraial, que fugiu rumo de Zererá, até Bete-Sita, até ao limite de Abel-Meolá, acima de Tabate.
23 And the men of Israel were called together, out of Naphtali and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh,and pursued Midian.
23 Então, os homens de Israel, de Naftali e de Aser e de todo o Manassés foram convocados e perseguiram os midianitas.
24 And, messengers, did Gideon send through all the hill country of Ephraim, sayingGo down to meet Midian, and capture, before them, the waters, as far as Beth-barah, and the Jordan. So all the men of Ephraim were called out, and captured the waters, as far as Beth-barah, and the Jordan.
24 Gideão enviou mensageiros a todas as montanhas de Efraim, dizendo: Descei de encontro aos midianitas e impedi-lhes a passagem pelas águas do Jordão até Bete-Bara. Convocados, pois, todos os homens de Efraim, cortaram-lhes a passagem pelo Jordão, até Bete-Bara.
25 And they captured the two princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb, and slew Oreb at Orebs Rock, and, Zeeb, they slew at Zeebs Winepress, and pursued Midian,and, the heads of Oreb and Zeeb, brought they in unto Gideon at the ford of the Jordan.
25 E prenderam a dois príncipes dos midianitas, Orebe e Zeebe; mataram Orebe na penha de Orebe e Zeebe mataram no lagar de Zeebe. Perseguiram aos midianitas e trouxeram as cabeças de Orebe e de Zeebe a Gideão, dalém do Jordão.
