1 And Yahweh spake unto Joshua, saying:
1 Falou mais o SENHOR a Josué, dizendo:
2 Speak unto the sons of Israel, saying,Set out for you the cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you, by the hand of Moses:
2 Fala aos filhos de Israel, dizendo: Apartai para vós as cidades de refúgio, de que vos falei pelo ministério de Moisés,
3 that the manslayer who slayeth a person by mistake, unwittingly, may flee thither,so shall they be unto you for refuge from the blood-redeemer,
3 Para que fuja para ali o homicida, que matar alguma pessoa por engano, e não com intenção; para que vos sirvam de refúgio contra o vingador do sangue.
4 and he shall flee unto one of these cities and present himself at the entrance of the gate of the city, and shall speak, in the ears of the elders of that city, his defence,and they shall take him for protection into the city unto them, and shall give him a place, so shall he dwell with them.
4 E fugindo para alguma daquelas cidades, pôr-se-á à porta dela e exporá a sua causa aos ouvidos dos anciãos da tal cidade; então o tomarão consigo na cidade; e lhe darão lugar, para que habite com eles.
5 And, when the blood-redeemer pursueth after him, then shall they not deliver up the manslayer, into his hand,because, unwittingly, it was that he slew his neighbour, and had not been, cherishing hatred, towards him, aforetime;
5 E se o vingador do sangue o seguir, não entregarão na sua mão o homicida, porquanto não feriu a seu próximo com intenção, e não o odiou antes.
6 so shall he remain in that city, until he standeth before the assembly, for judgment, until the death of the high-priest who shall be in those days,then, shall the manslayer return, and enter into his own city, and into his own house, within the city from whence he fled.
6 E habitará na mesma cidade, até que compareça em juízo perante a congregação, até que morra o sumo sacerdote que houver naqueles dias; então o homicida voltará, e virá à sua cidade e à sua casa, à cidade de onde fugiu.
7 So then they set apart Kadesh in Galilee, in the hill country of Naphtali, and Shechem, in the hill country of Ephraim, and Kiriath-arba, the same, is Hebron, in the hill country of Judah.
7 Então designaram a Quedes na Galiléia, na montanha de Naftali, e a Siquém, na montanha de Efraim, e a Quiriate-Arba (esta é Hebrom), na montanha de Judá.
8 And, beyond the Jordan, by Jericho eastward, they appointed Bezer in the wilderness, in the table-land, out of the tribe of Reuben,and Ramoth in Gilead, out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan, out of the tribe of Manasseh.
8 E, além do Jordão, na direção de Jericó para o oriente, designaram a Bezer, no deserto, na campina da tribo de Rúben, e a Ramote, em Gileade da tribo de Gade, e a Golã, em Basã da tribo de Manassés.
9 These, were the cities appointed for all the sons of Israel, and for the sojourner who sojourneth in their midst, that whosoever should slay a person by mistake, might flee thither,and not die by the hand of the blood-redeemer, until he should stand before the assembly.
9 Estas são as cidades que foram designadas para todos os filhos de Israel, e para o estrangeiro que habitasse entre eles, para que se acolhesse a elas todo aquele que por engano matasse alguma pessoa, para que não morresse às mãos do vingador do sangue, até se apresentar diante da congregação.
