1 Thus said Yahweh, Go and buy a potters earthen bottle,and take of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests;
1 Assim me disse o S enhor : “Vá e compre um vaso de barro. Depois, peça a alguns líderes do povo e dos sacerdotes que o acompanhem.
2 Then shalt thou go forth into the valley of Ben-hinnom, which is at the opening of the gate of potsherds; and proclaim there the words which I shall speak unto thee;
2 Vá ao depósito de lixo no vale de Ben-Hinom, que fica junto ao portão dos Cacos, e proclame esta mensagem:
3 and shalt say,Hear ye the word of Yahweh, O kings of Judah And inhabitants of Jerusalem,Thus, saith Yahweh of hostsGod of Israel Behold me! bringing in calamity upon this place, which shall cause the ears of every one that heareth it, to tingle:
3 ‘Ouçam esta mensagem do S enhor , reis de Judá e habitantes de Jerusalém! Assim diz o S enhor dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel: Trarei calamidade sobre este lugar, calamidade tão terrível que fará tinir os ouvidos de quem ouvir a respeito!
4 Because they have forsaken me, And have treated this as a foreign place, And have burned incense therein to other gods, which neither they, nor their fathers nor the kings of Judah, have known; And have filled this place with the blood of innocents;
4 “‘Pois o povo me abandonou e transformou este vale num lugar de perversidade. Queimam incenso a deuses estrangeiros, ídolos até então desconhecidos desta geração, de seus antepassados e dos reis de Judá. Encheram este lugar com o sangue de crianças inocentes.
5 And have built the high places of Baal for burning up their sons in the fire as ascending-sacrifices to Baal,Which I commanded not, Nor spake, Neither came it up on my heart,
5 Construíram lugares de adoração a Baal e lhe queimaram os filhos como sacrifício. Jamais ordenei tamanha maldade; nunca me passou pela mente!
6 Therefore, lo! days coming, Declareth Yahweh, When this place shall be called no longer The Topheth, or The Valley of Ben-hinnom,butThe Valley of Slaughter;
6 Portanto, tomem cuidado, diz o S enhor , pois está chegando o dia em que este lugar não se chamará mais Tofete, nem vale de Ben-Hinom, mas vale da Matança.
7 And I will pour out the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place, And I will cause them to fall by the sword, before their enemies, and by the hand of them who seek their life,
7 “‘Pois eu transtornarei os planos minuciosos de Judá e Jerusalém. Permitirei que seu povo seja massacrado por exércitos invasores e deixarei seus cadáveres para servirem de alimento para os abutres e os animais selvagens.
8 And I will give their dead bodies for food, to the bird of the heavens and to the beast of the earth; And I will make this city a desolation and a hissing,every one that passeth by it, shall be astonished and hiss over all her wounds;
8 Transformarei Jerusalém em um monte de escombros; será um monumento à sua tolice. Todos que passarem por lá ficarão pasmos e abrirão a boca de espanto quando virem suas ruínas.
9 And I will suffer them to eat the flesh of their sons, and the flesh of their daughters, yea every onethe flesh of his friend, will they eat,in the siege and in the straitness, wherewith, their enemies, and they who seek their lives, will straiten them.
9 Farei os inimigos cercarem a cidade, até que acabe toda a comida. Então, os que estiverem presos dentro dela comerão os próprios filhos, filhas e amigos. Serão levados ao mais absoluto desespero’.
10 Then shalt thou break the bottle, before the eyes of the men who are walking with thee;
10 “Então, Jeremias, você quebrará o vaso à vista desses homens
11 and shalt say unto themThus, saith Yahweh of hostsThus and thus, will I break this people, and this city, As one breaketh the vessel of a potter, which cannot be made whole any more,And in Topheth, shall they bury, for want of place to bury.
11 e lhes dirá: ‘Assim diz o S enhor dos Exércitos: Como este vaso está despedaçado, assim despedaçarei o povo de Judá e o povo de Jerusalém, e não haverá quem possa restaurá-los. Enterrarão os corpos aqui em Tofete, até que não haja mais espaço.
12 Thus, will I do to this place Declareth Yahweh, And to the inhabitants thereof,Even making this city like Topheth:
12 Assim farei a este lugar e a seu povo, diz o S enhor . Farei a cidade ficar contaminada como Tofete.
13 Yea, the houses of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah, shall like the place of Topheth, be places defiled,even all the houses upon whose roofs they burned incense to all the host of the heavens, and poured out drink-offerings to other gods.
13 Sim, todas as casas de Jerusalém, incluindo o palácio dos reis de Judá, se tornarão como Tofete, todas as casas em que vocês queimaram incenso nos terraços para adorar as estrelas e apresentaram ofertas derramadas para seus ídolos’”.
14 Then entered Jeremiah out of Topheth, whither Yahweh had sent him to prophesy,and stood in the court of the house of Yahweh, and said unto all the people:
14 Então Jeremias voltou de Tofete, onde havia anunciado essa mensagem, e parou diante do templo do S enhor . Ali, disse ao povo:
15 Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts, God of Israel, Behold me! brining in against this city, and upon all the cities thereof, The whole calamity which I have pronounced against her,Because they stiffened their neck, that they might not hear my words.
15 “Assim diz o S enhor dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel: Trarei calamidade sobre esta cidade e sobre os povoados ao redor conforme prometi, pois vocês se recusaram teimosamente a me ouvir”.
