1 Then commanded he him who was over his house sayingFill the sacks of the men, with food, as much as they can carry, and put each mans silver in the mouth of his sack;
1 Então José deu a seguinte ordem ao administrador do palácio: “Coloque nos sacos que eles trouxeram todo o cereal que puderem carregar, e coloque o dinheiro de cada um de volta no saco.
2 and my cupthe cup of silver, shalt thou put in the mouth of the sack of the youngest, with his corn-silver. So he did, according to the word of Joseph, which he had spoken.
2 Depois, coloque meu copo de prata na boca do saco de mantimento do mais novo, junto com o dinheiro dele”. O administrador fez tudo conforme José ordenou.
3 By the time, the morning, was light, the men, had been sent away, they, and their asses.
3 Assim que amanheceu, os irmãos se levantaram e partiram com os jumentos carregados.
4 They themselves, had gone out of the citythey had not gone far, when Joseph said to him who was over his house, Rise chase after the men,so shalt thou overtake them and shalt say unto them, Wherefore have ye requited evil for good?
4 Quando haviam percorrido apenas uma distância curta e mal haviam saído da cidade, José disse ao administrador do palácio: “Vá atrás deles e detenha-os. Quando os alcançar, diga-lhes: ‘Por que retribuíram o bem com o mal?
5 Is not this that in which my lord drinketh, and whereby, he himself, doth divine? Ye have done evil in what ye have done.
5 Por que roubaram o copo de prata do meu senhor, que ele usa para prever o futuro? Vocês agiram muito mal!’”.
6 So he overtook them,and spake unto them these words.
6 Quando o administrador do palácio alcançou os homens, repetiu para eles as palavras de José.
7 And they said unto him, Wherefore should my lord speak such words as these? Far be thy servants, from doing such a thing as this!
7 “Do que o senhor está falando?”, disseram os irmãos. “Somos seus servos e jamais faríamos uma coisa dessas!
8 Lo! the silver that we found in the mouth of our sacks, we brought back unto thee out of the land of Canaan,how then could we steal out of the house of thy lord, silver or gold?
8 Por acaso não devolvemos o dinheiro que encontramos nos sacos? Nós o trouxemos de volta da terra de Canaã. Por que roubaríamos ouro ou prata da casa do seu senhor?
9 With whomsoever of thy servants it can be found, he shall die,and, we also, will become my lords servants.
9 Se encontrar o copo de prata com um de nós, que morra quem estiver com ele! E nós, os restantes, seremos seus escravos.”
10 And he said, Yea, now, according to your words, so, let it be,he with whom it is found, shall be my servant, Ye, however, shall be clear.
10 “Sua proposta é justa”, respondeu ele. “Mas apenas aquele que roubou o copo de prata se tornará meu escravo. Os outros estarão livres.”
11 So they hastened and took down each man his sack to the ground,and opened each man his sack.
11 Sem demora, eles descarregaram os sacos e os abriram.
12 Then made he thorough search, with the eldest, he began, and with the youngest, he ended,and the cup was found in the sack of Benjamin!
12 O administrador do palácio examinou a bagagem de cada um, começando pelo mais velho até o mais novo. E o copo foi encontrado no saco de mantimento de Benjamim.
13 And they rent their mantles,and laded each man his ass, and returned to the city.
13 Quando os irmãos viram isso, rasgaram as roupas. Depois, colocaram a carga de volta sobre os jumentos e retornaram à cidade.
14 And Judah and his brethren came into the house of Joseph, he, yet being there,and fell down before him to the earth.
14 José ainda estava em seu palácio quando Judá e seus irmãos chegaram, e eles se curvaram até o chão diante dele.
15 And Joseph said to them, What is this deed which ye have done? Know ye not that such a man as I, can even divine?
15 “O que vocês fizeram?”, exigiu ele. “Não sabem que um homem como eu é capaz de prever o que vai acontecer?”
16 Then said JudahWhat shall we say to my lord, how shall we speak and how shall we justify ourselves,when, God himself, hath found out the iniquity of thy servants? Behold us! my lords servants, both we, and he in whose hand the cup hath been found.
16 Judá respondeu: “Meu senhor, o que podemos dizer? Que explicação podemos dar? Como podemos provar nossa inocência? Deus está nos castigando por causa de nossa maldade. Todos nós voltamos para ser seus escravos, todos nós, e não apenas nosso irmão com quem foi encontrado o copo de prata”.
17 And he said, Far be it from me to do this thing! The man in whose hand the cup hath been found, he, shall be my servant, but as for you, go ye up in peace unto your father.
17 José, no entanto, disse: “Eu jamais faria uma coisa dessas! Apenas o homem que roubou o copo será meu escravo. Os outros podem voltar em paz para a casa de seu pai”.
18 Then Judah drew near unto him, and saidPardon my lord! Pray let thy servant speak a word in the ears of my lord, and do not let thine anger be kindled against thy servant,for, thus, art, thou as Pharaoh!
18 Então Judá deu um passo à frente e disse: “Por favor, meu senhor, permita que seu servo lhe diga apenas uma palavra. Peço que não perca a paciência comigo, embora o senhor seja tão poderoso quanto o próprio faraó.
19 It was, my lord, who asked his servants, saying,Have ye a father, or a brother?
19 “Meu senhor perguntou a nós, seus servos: ‘Vocês têm pai ou irmão?’.
20 So we said unto my lord, We have an aged father, and the child of his old age a youth,his brother, being dead, he alone, is left of his mother and, his father, loveth him.
20 E nós respondemos: ‘Sim, meu senhor, nosso pai é idoso e tem um filho mais novo, nascido em sua velhice. O irmão desse filho, por parte de pai e mãe, morreu. Ele é o único filho de sua mãe, e nosso pai o ama muito’.
21 So then thou saidst unto thy servants, Bring him down unto me,that I may set mine eyes upon him.
21 “O senhor nos disse: ‘Tragam-no aqui para que eu possa vê-lo com os próprios olhos’.
22 And we said unto my lord, The lad cannot leave his father,as surely as he leaveth his father, so surely will he, die.
22 E nós respondemos: ‘Meu senhor, o rapaz não pode deixar o pai, pois, se o fizesse, o pai morreria’.
23 And thou saidst unto thy servants, Except your youngest brother do come down with you, ye shall not again behold my face.
23 Mas o senhor nos disse: ‘Vocês não me verão novamente se não trouxerem seu irmão’.
24 So it came to pass when we had gone up unto thy servant, my father, that we told him the words of my lord.
24 “Assim, voltamos para seu servo, nosso pai, e contamos a ele o que o senhor tinha dito.
25 Then said our father,Go again buy us a little food,
25 Passado algum tempo, quando ele disse: ‘Voltem e comprem mais mantimentos’,
26 And we said, We cannot go down,If our youngest brother be with us, then will we go down, for we cannot see the face of the man if, our youngest brother, is not with us.
26 nós respondemos: ‘Só poderemos voltar se nosso irmão mais novo nos acompanhar. Não temos como ver o homem outra vez, a menos que nosso irmão mais novo esteja conosco’.
27 Then said thy servant my father, unto us,Ye yourselves, know, that, two, did my wife bear to me,
27 “Então meu pai nos disse: ‘Como vocês sabem, minha mulher teve dois filhos,
28 and the one went forth from me, and I saidCertainly he hath been, torn in pieces,
28 e um deles foi embora e nunca mais voltou. Sem dúvida, foi despedaçado por algum animal selvagem, e eu nunca mais o vi.
29 And I have never seen him since. As surely as ye take, this one also, away from before my face and there befall him any mischief, so surely shall ye bring down my grey hairs, with misfortune to hades.
29 Se agora vocês levarem de mim o irmão dele e lhe acontecer algum mal, vocês me mandarão velho e infeliz para a sepultura’.
30 Now, therefore, as surely as I go in unto thy servant my father, and, the lad, is not with us,seeing that his soul is bound up with the lads soul,
30 “E agora, meu senhor, não posso voltar para a casa de meu pai sem o rapaz. A vida de nosso pai está ligada à vida do rapaz.
31 so surely shall it come to pass that when he sooth that the lad is not with us, then will he die. So shall thy servants bring down the grey hairs of thy servant our father, with sorrow to hades.
31 Quando ele vir que o rapaz não está conosco, morrerá. Nós, seus servos, seremos, de fato, responsáveis por mandar para a sepultura seu servo, nosso pai, em profunda tristeza.
32 For thy servant, became surety for the lad, while away from my father saying,If I bring him not unto thee, then will I count myself a sinner against my father all the days.
32 Meu senhor, garanti a meu pai que levaria o rapaz de volta. Disse-lhe: ‘Se não o trouxer de volta, carregarei a culpa para sempre’.
33 Now, therefore, I pray thee let thy servant remain instead of the lad, as servant to my lord,but as for the lad, let him go up with his brethren.
33 “Por isso, peço ao senhor que me permita ficar aqui como escravo no lugar do rapaz e que o deixe voltar com os irmãos dele.
34 For how can I go up unto my father, should the lad, not be with me? lest I look on the calamity, that shall find out my father,
34 Pois, como poderei voltar a meu pai sem o rapaz? Não suportaria ver a angústia que isso lhe causaria!”.
