1 And there came to be a famine in the land, besides the first famine which happened in the days of Abraham,so Isaac went his way unto Abimelech, king of the Philistines towards Gerar;
1 Sobreveio uma fome à região {além da primeira fome que houve no tempo de Abraão}, e Isaac foi ter com Abimelec, rei dos filisteus em Gerara.
2 and Yahweh appeared unto him, and said, do not go down towards Egypt,Make thy habitation in the land, which I may name unto thee:
2 O Senhor apareceu-lhe e disse-lhe: "Não desças ao Egito; fica na terra que eu te indico.
3 Sojourn in this land, that I may be with thee and bless thee,for, to thee, and to thy seed, will I give all these lands, So will I establish the oath which I sware to Abraham thy father;
3 Habita nela; eu estou contigo e te abençoarei, porque é a ti e à tua posteridade que darei toda esta terra, e cumprirei o juramento que fiz ao teu pai Abraão.
4 and will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heavens, and will give to thy seed, all these lands,And all the nations of the earth shall bless themselves in thy seed:
4 Multiplicarei tua posteridade como as estrelas do céu, dar-lhe-ei todas estas regiões, e nela serão benditas todas as nações da terra,
5 Because that Abraham hearkened unto my voice,and so kept my charge, my commandments my statutes and my laws.
5 porque Abraão obedeceu à minha voz e observou os meus preceitos, meus mandamentos e minhas leis."
6 So Isaac dwelt in Gerar.
6 Isaac ficou, pois, em Gerara.
7 Then asked the men of the place as to his wife, and he said, My sister, is she,For he feared to say My wife, lest the men of the place should slay me on account of Rebekah, for fair to Nook on, she is.
7 Quando os habitantes da região o interrogavam a respeito de sua mulher, ele dizia-lhes que era sua irmã, pois respondendo "É minha mulher", temia que os homens daquele lugar o matassem por causa de Rebeca, que era muito bela.
8 And it came to pass when the days had lengthened out to him there, that Abimelech king of the Philistines, looked out through the lattice of a window,and he beheld and lo! Isaaclaughing with Rebekah his wife.
8 E, como sua estada ali se prolongasse, aconteceu que um dia, olhando Abimelec pela janela, viu Isaac que acariciava Rebeca, sua mulher.
9 So Abimelech called for Isaac, and said, But to she is, thy wife! How then, saidst thou, She is, my sister? And Isaac said unto him, Because, I said, Lest I die on her account.
9 Mandou chamá-lo e disse-lhe: "É evidente que é tua mulher! E como dizias tu que era tua irmã." "Porque, respondeu Isaac, eu temia que me matassem por causa dela."
10 Then, said, Abimelech, What is this thou hast done to us? A little more, and one of the people might have lien with thy wife, so shouldst thou have brought upon us, guilt.
10 Abimelec replicou: "Que nos fizeste? Um pouco mais e alguém do povo teria abusado de tua mulher, e terias atraído o pecado sobre nós!"
11 And Abimelech commanded all the people saying,He that toucheth this man or his wife, shall surely be put to death
11 Então Abimelec mandou publicar diante de todo o povo que seria morto quem quer que tocasse naquele homem ou em sua mulher.
12 And Isaac sowed in that land, and found in the same year, a hundredfold,seeing that Yahweh had blessed him.
12 Isaac semeou naquela terra, e colheu o cêntuplo naquele mesmo ano; o Senhor o abençoava.
13 So the man waxed great,and went on and on waxing great until that he had waxed exceeding great.
13 E este homem cresceu, e seus bens foram aumentando cada vez mais; tornou-se extremamente rico.
14 So he came to have possessions of flocks gild possessions of herds, and a large body of servants,and the Philistines envied him.
14 Possuía rebanhos de ovelhas e de bois e numerosos escravos. E os filisteus o invejavam.
15 And as for all the wells which the servants of his father digged, in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines stepped them up, and filled them with dust.
15 Por isso, entupiram todos os poços que tinham cavado os escravos de seu pai Abraão, quando este ainda vivia.
16 And Abimelech said unto Isaac,Get thee from us, for thou hast become far mightier than we.
16 Abimelec disse-lhe: "Aparta-te de nós, pois te tornaste muito mais poderoso do que nós."
17 So Isaac went from thence,and encamped in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there.
17 Partiu Isaac e, tendo levantado o seu acampamento no vale de Gerara, habitou aí.
18 And Isaac again digged the wells of water which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father, and which the Philistines stopped up after the death of Abraham,and he called their names, after the names which his father called them.
18 Abriu de novo os poços cavados outrora, no tempo de seu pai Abraão, que os filisteus tinham entupido depois de sua morte, e deu-lhes os mesmos nomes que o seu pai lhes tinha dado.
19 And Isaacs servants digged in the valley,and found there a well of living water.
19 Seus servos cavaram outro poço no vale, e encontraram ali uma fonte de água viva.
20 And the herdmen of Gerar disputed with the herdmen of Isaac saying, Ours, is thee, water! So he called the name of the well Esek, because they had stirred up a quarrel with him.
20 Mas os pastores de Gerara começaram a disputar com os pastores de Isaac: "Esta água é nossa", diziam eles. Isaac chamou então a esse poço Esec, porque lho tinham contestado.
21 And they digged another well, and they disputed over that also,so he called the name thereof Sitnah.
21 Abriram seus pastores um segundo poço, mas surgiu uma outra disputa, e por isso pôs-lhe o nome de Sitna.
22 And he moved on from thence and digged another well, and they disputed not for it,so he called the name thereof. Rehoboth, and said, For, now, hath Yahweh made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.
22 Partindo em seguida dali, abriu outro poço, sobre o qual não houve mais discussão, e pôs-lhe o nome de Rehobot, "porque agora, disse ele, o Senhor nos pôs ao largo, e prosperaremos na terra."
23 And be went up from thence, to Beer-sheba.
23 Dali, Isaac subiu a Bersabéia.
24 And Yahweh appeared unto him the same night, and said, I, am the God of Abraham thy father,Do not fear for with thee, am, I, And I will bless thee and multiply thy seed, For the sake of Abraham my servant.
24 Naquela mesma noite, o Senhor apareceu-lhe e disse-lhe: "Eu sou o Deus de Abraão, teu pai. Nada temas, estou contigo. Eu te abençoarei e multiplicarei tua descendência por causa de Abraão, meu servo."
25 So he builded there all altar and called on the name of Yahweh, and spread out there, his rent,and the servants of Isaac cut out there a well.
25 Isaac construiu um altar nesse lugar e invocou o nome do Senhor. Levantou depois ali sua tenda e seus escravos cavaram um poço.
26 And, Abimelech, came unto him from Gerar, with Ahuzzath his friend, and Phicol, commander of his host.
26 Abimelec veio de Gerara procurá-lo, com Ocozat, seu amigo, e Ficol, general do seu exército.
27 And Isaac said unto them, Wherefore have ye come in mite me, seeing that, ye, hated me, and sent me away from you?
27 Isaac disse: "Por que me procurais, já que me detestais e me expulsastes do meio de vós?"
28 And they said: We, saw plainly, that Yahweh was with thee, so we said, Let there be we pray thee an oath betwixt us both, betwixt us and thee,and let us solemnise a covenant with thee:
28 Eles responderam: "Nós vimos que o Senhor está contigo, e pensamos conosco: Haja um juramento entre nós e ti. Queremos, pois, fazer aliança contigo.
29 That, thou wilt not do wrong by us, according as we touched not thee, and according as we did by thee nothing but good, and then sent thee away in peace, thee who, now, art blessed of Yahweh!
29 Jura que não nos farás nenhum mal, assim como também nós não tocamos em nada do que é teu e só te temos feito bem, deixando-te partir em paz. Agora, tu és o bendito do Senhor."
30 So he made for them a banquet, and they did eat and drink,
30 Isaac preparou-lhes um banquete, e eles comeram e beberam.
31 and rose up early in the morning, and took an oath each man to his brother, so Isaac let them go, and they departed from him in peace.
31 No dia seguinte pela manhã, fizeram mutuamente os seus juramentos; Isaac despediu-os em seguida, e eles afastaram-se dele em paz.
32 And it came to pass, on the same day, that the servants of Isaac came in, and told him concerning the well which they had digged, and said to him, We have found water!
32 Nesse mesmo dia, os escravos de Isaac vieram dar-lhe notícias do poço que estavam cavando: "Encontramos água", disseram eles.
33 So he called it, Shibah. For this cause, hath the name of the city, been Beer-sheba, unto this day.
33 Ele pôs a esse poço o nome de Sibea. De onde vem o nome de Bersabéia, nome que a cidade conserva até o dia de hoje.
34 And when Esau was forty years old, he took to wife Judith, daughter of Beeri. the Hittite; and Basemath, daughter of Elon, the Hittite;
34 Esaú, com a idade de quarenta anos, tomou por mulheres Judite, filha de Beeri, o hiteu, e Basemat, filha de Elon, o hiteu.
35 and they became a bitterness of spirit, to Isaac and to Rebekah.
35 Elas foram um motivo de desgosto para Isaac e Rebeca.
