Rotherham Version (ROTH) vs NVI
1 Now, when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heardthat, the Sons of the Exile, were building the temple, unto Yahweh, God of Israel,
1 Quando os inimigos de Judá e de Benjamim souberam que os exilados estavam reconstruindo o templo do Senhor, o Deus de Israel,
2 then drew they near unto Zerubbabel, and unto the ancestral chiefs, and said unto them, Let us build with you, for, like you, we seek your God, and, unto him, have, we, been sacrificing since the days of Esar-haddon, king of Assyria, who brought us up hither.
2 foram falar com Zorobabel e com os chefes das famílias: "Vamos ajudá-los nessa obra porque, como vocês, nós buscamos o Deus de vocês e temos sacrificado a ele desde a época de Esar-Hadom, rei da Assíria, que nos trouxe para cá".
3 But Zerubbabel and Joshua and the rest of the ancestral chiefs of Israel, said unto them, It pertaineth not to you and to us , to build a house unto our God,but, we ourselves together, will build unto Yahweh, God of Israel, even as King Cyrus, king of Persia, hath commanded us.
3 Contudo, Zorobabel, Jesua e os demais líderes das famílias de Israel responderam: "Não compete a vocês a reconstrução do templo de nosso Deus. Somente nós o construiremos para o Senhor, o Deus de Israel, conforme Ciro, o rei da Pérsia, nos ordenou".
4 Then came it to pass, that, the people of the land, were weakening the hands of the people of Judah,and troubling them in building;
4 Então a gente da região começou a desanimar o povo de Judá e a atemorizá-lo, para que não continuassem a construção.
5 and hiring against them counselors, to overturn their purpose,all the days of Cyrus, king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius, king of Persia.
5 Pagaram alguns funcionários para que se opusessem a eles e frustrassem o plano deles. E fizeram isso durante todo o reinado de Ciro até o reinado de Dario, reis da Pérsia.
6 And, in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, wrote they an accusation, against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.
6 No início do reinado de Xerxes, apresentaram uma acusação contra o povo de Judá e de Jerusalém.
7 And, in the days of Artaxerxes, wrote Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of his associates, unto Artaxerxes, king of Persia,and, the writing of the letter, was written in Aramean, and was to be interpreted as Aramean.
7 E nos dias de Artaxerxes, rei da Pérsia, Bislão, Mitredate, Tabeel e o restante dos seus companheiros escreveram uma carta a Artaxerxes. A carta foi escrita em aramaico, com caracteres aramaicos.
8 Rehum holder of judicial authority, and Shimshai the scribe, wrote a certain letter against Jerusalem,to Artaxerxes the king, thus:
8 O comandante Reum e o secretário Sinsai escreveram uma carta contra Jerusalém ao rei Artaxerxes nos seguintes termos:
9 Then Rehum holder of judicial authority, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their associates,the Dinaites and the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the Apharsites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Shushanchites, the Dehaites, the Elamites;
9 O comandante Reum e o secretário Sinsai, e o restante de seus companheiros, os juízes e os oficiais de Trípoli, da Pérsia, de Ereque e da Babilônia, os elamitas de Susã,
10 and the rest of the peoples, whom the great and noble Osnappar hath exiled, and set in the city of Samaria,and the rest Beyond the River, and so forth:
10 e as outras nações a quem o grande e renomado Assurbanípal deportou e assentou na cidade de Samaria e noutros lugares a oeste do Eufrates,
11 This, is a copy of the letter which they sent unto himunto Artaxerxes the king,Thy servants, the men Beyond the River and so forth:
11 ( esta é uma cópia da carta que lhe enviaram ): "Ao rei Artaxerxes, De seus servos, que vivem a oeste do Eufrates:
12 Be it known unto the king,that, the Jews who came up from thee unto us, are come to Jerusalem,the rebellious and wicked city, are they building, and, the walls, have they finished, and, the foundations, will they repair.
12 É bom o rei ficar sabendo que os judeus que chegaram a nós da tua parte vieram a Jerusalém e estão reconstruindo aquela cidade rebelde e má. Estão fazendo reparos nos muros e consertando os alicerces.
13 Now be it known to the king, that, if this city, be built, and, the walls thereof, be finished, neither, tribute, excise, nor toll, will they render, and so, the revenue of the kings, shalt thou damage.
13 Além disso, é preciso que o rei saiba que, se essa cidade for reconstruída e os seus muros reparados, não mais se pagarão impostos, tributos ou taxas, e as rendas do rei sofrerão prejuízo.
14 Now, because the salt of the palace we have eaten, the impoverishment of the king, it is not meet for us to see,therefore have we sent, and certified the king;
14 Agora, visto que estamos a serviço do palácio e não nos é conveniente ver a desonra do rei, estamos enviando esta mensagem ao rei,
15 so that search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers, so shalt thou find out in the book of recordsand shalt ascertain, that, this city, is a rebellious city, and one that causeth damage unto kings and provinces, and that, rebellion, have they been wont to cause in the midst thereof since the days of age-past time,for this cause, was this city laid waste.
15 a fim de que se faça uma pesquisa nos arquivos de seus antecessores. Nesses arquivos o rei descobrirá e saberá que essa cidade é uma cidade rebelde, problemática para reis e províncias, um lugar de revoltas desde épocas antigas, motivo pelo qual foi destruída.
16 We do certify the king that, if, this city, be built, and, the walls thereof, finished, for that very reason, portion Beyond the River, shalt thou have none.
16 Informamos ao rei que, se essa cidade for reconstruída e seus muros reparados, nada lhe sobrará a oeste do Eufrates".
17 The king sent, a message, unto Rehum holder of judicial authority, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their associates, who were dwelling in Samaria, and the rest Beyond the River, Peace and so forth.
17 O rei enviou-lhes a seguinte resposta: "Ao comandante Reum, ao secretário Sinsai e aos seus demais companheiros que vivem em Samaria e em outras partes, a oeste do Eufrates: Saudações de paz!
18 The letter which ye sent unto us, was distinctly read before me;
18 A carta que vocês nos enviaram foi traduzida e lida na minha presença.
19 And, from me, went forth an edict, and they have made search and found, that, this city, since the days of age-past time, against kings, hath lifted herself up,and, sedition and rebellion, have been made therein;
19 Sob minhas ordens fez-se uma pesquisa, e descobriu-se que essa cidade tem uma longa história de rebeldia contra os reis e que tem sido um lugar de rebeliões e revoltas.
20 and, mighty kings, have there been over Jerusalem, and bearing rule everywhere Beyond the River,and, tribute, excise, and toll, have been given to them.
20 Jerusalém teve reis poderosos que governaram toda a região a oeste do Eufrates, aos quais se pagavam impostos, tributos e taxas.
21 Now, issue ye an edict, to forbid these men,that, this city, be not built, until, from me, the edict be issued.
21 Ordene agora a esses homens que parem a obra, para que essa cidade não seja reconstruída enquanto eu não mandar.
22 Beware, then, of failure to do thus,wherefore should the damage increase, to inflict loss on the kings?
22 "Tenham cuidado, não sejam negligentes neste assunto, para que os interesses reais não sofram prejuízo".
23 Then, when, the copy of the letter of Artaxerxes the king, had been read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their associates, they journeyed in haste to Jerusalem, unto the Jews, and forbade them, with arm and force.
23 Lida a cópia da carta do rei Artaxerxes para Reum, para o secretário Sinsai e para os seus companheiros, eles foram depressa a Jerusalém e forçaram os judeus a parar a obra.
24 Then ceased the work of the house of God, which was in Jerusalem,yea it did cease, until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.
24 Assim a obra do templo de Deus em Jerusalém foi interrompida, e ficou parada até o segundo ano do reinado de Dario, rei da Pérsia.
