1 Cast thy bread-corn, upon the face of the waters,for, after many days, shalt thou find it:
1 Lança o teu pão sobre as águas, porque depois de muitos dias o acharás.
2 Give a portion to seven, yea even to eight,for thou canst not know, what there shall be of misfortune, upon the earth.
2 Reparte com sete, e ainda até com oito, porque não sabes que mal haverá sobre a terra.
3 If the clouds be filled with a downpour, upon the earth, will they empty themselves, and, if a tree fall in the south or in the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there will it be found.
3 Estando as nuvens cheias, derramam a chuva sobre a terra, e caindo a árvore para o sul, ou para o norte, no lugar em que a árvore cair ali ficará.
4 He that observeth the wind, will not sow,and, he that watcheth the clouds, will not reap.
4 Quem observa o vento, nunca semeará, e o que olha para as nuvens nunca segará.
5 Just as thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, when the body is in the womb of her that is with child, even, so, canst thou not know the work of God, who maketh all.
5 Assim como tu não sabes qual o caminho do vento, nem como se formam os ossos no ventre da mulher grávida, assim também não sabes as obras de Deus, que faz todas as coisas.
6 In the morning, sow thy seed, and, until evening, do not withhold thy hand,for thou knowest notwhether shall thrive, either this or that, or whether, both alike, shall be fruitful.
6 Pela manhã semeia a tua semente, e à tarde não retires a tua mão, porque tu não sabes qual prosperará, se esta, se aquela, ou se ambas serão igualmente boas.
7 Truly sweet is the light,and, pleasant to the eyes, to see the sun:
7 Certamente suave é a luz, e agradável é aos olhos ver o sol.
8 But, though, many years, a man live, through them all, let him rejoice; yet let him remember the days of darkness, for many they may be, all that cometh, may be vanity.
8 Porém, se o homem viver muitos anos, e em todos eles se alegrar, também se deve lembrar dos dias das trevas, porque hão de ser muitos. Tudo quanto sucede é vaidade.
9 Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth, and let thy heart gladden thee in the days of thine early manhood, and walk thouin the ways of thine own heart, and in that which is seen by thine own eyes,yet know, that, for all these things, will God bring thee into judgment.
9 Alegra-te, jovem, na tua mocidade, e recreie-se o teu coração nos dias da tua mocidade, e anda pelos caminhos do teu coração, e pela vista dos teus olhos; sabe, porém, que por todas estas coisas te trará Deus a juízo.
10 Therefore remove thou vexation from thy heart, and put away discomfort from thy flesh,for, youth and dawn, are vanity!
10 Afasta, pois, a ira do teu coração, e remove da tua carne o mal, porque a adolescência e a juventude são vaidade.
