1 And, in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams,and his spirit, was troubled, and, his sleep, had gone from him.
1 No segundo ano de seu reinado, Nabucodonosor teve sonhos que lhe perturbaram a tal ponto o espírito, que perdeu o sono.
2 So the king gave word to call for the sacred scribes and for the magicians, and for the users of incantations, and for the Chaldeans, that they might tell the king his dreams,they came in therefore, and stood before the king.
2 Mandou chamar os escribas, os mágicos, os feiticeiros e os caldeus para lhe fazerem a interpretação. Estes vieram apresentar-se diante do rei.
3 And the king, said to them, A dream, have I dreamed,and my spirit is troubled to know the dream.
3 Tive um sonho, disse-lhes, e meu espírito se consome à procura do significado.
4 Then spake the Chaldeans to the king, in Aramaic,O king, to the ages, live! Tell the dream to thy servants, and, the interpretation, we will declare.
4 Os caldeus responderam ao rei {em língua aramaica}: Senhor, longa vida ao rei! Narra teu sonho para que teus servos dêem a interpretação.
5 The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The word from me, is unalterable: If ye shall not make known to me the dream and the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and, your houses, into a dunghill, shall be turned;
5 O rei disse aos caldeus: para mim é coisa decidida: se não me explicardes o conteúdo do sonho bem como sua significação, sereis estraçalhados e vossas casas reduzidas a um montão de imundícies.
6 but, if, the dream and the interpretation thereof, ye will declare, gifts and a present and great dignity, shall ye receive from before me,therefore, the dream and the interpretation thereof, declare ye unto me.
6 Mas se me revelardes tanto o conteúdo quanto a significação do sonho, recebereis de mim donativos, presentes e grandes testemunhos de honra. Portanto, dizei-me meu sonho e o que ele significa.
7 They answered again and said,Let, the king, tell, the dream, to his servants, and, the interpretation thereof, we will declare.
7 De novo responderam: Que o rei narre o sonho a seus servos e nós faremos a interpretação.
8 The king answered and said, Of a certainty, I know, that, time, ye, would gain,merely because ye see that, unalterable, from me, is the word:
8 Sei agora perfeitamente, continou o rei, que procurais ganhar tempo, porque sabeis que estou bem decidido
9 That, if, the dream, ye shall not make known to me, one and the same, is the decree, and, a lying and wicked word, have ye agreed to speak before me, that meanwhile the time may be changed,therefore, the dream, tell ye me, so shall I know that, the interpretation thereof, ye can declare for me.
9 a aplicar-vos a dita sentença, se não me revelardes o conteúdo de meu sonho. Estais combinados a mentir-me e a enganar-me, esperando que as circunstâncias mudem. Vamos, dizei-me o que sonhei e eu saberei se sois capazes de dar a interpretação.
10 The Chaldeans answered before the king and said, There is not a man upon the earth, who can declare, the matter of the king,although indeed, there is no king, chief ruler who, a thing like this, hath asked of any sacred scribe or magician or Chaldean;
10 Os caldeus deram ao rei esta resposta: Não há homem algum sobre a terra que possa fazer o que exige o rei. E, de fato, jamais rei algum, por maior e mais poderoso que tenha sido, pediu tamanha coisa a um escriba, mágico ou caldeu.
11 and, the thing which the king hath asked, is difficult, and, none other, is there, who can declare it before the king,saving the gods whose dwelling is, not with flesh.
11 A questão proposta pelo rei é difícil e ninguém poderia dar a solução ao rei, a não ser os deuses que estão excluídos do trato com os seres carnais.
12 For this cause, the king, was provoked and exceedingly indignant,and gave word to destroy all the wise men of Babylon;
12 Com isso, o rei encolerizou-se e, na sua fúria, deu ordem para matarem todos os sábios de Babilônia.
13 and, the decree, went forth, that, the wise men, should be slain,and they sought Daniel and his companions that they might be slain.
13 A sentença foi publicada e o massacre dos sábios começou. Procuravam Daniel e seus comapanheiros para matá-los,
14 Immediately, Daniel, made answer with prudence and discretion, to Arioch, chief of the executioners of the king,who had come forth to slay the wise men of Babylon:
14 quando este dirigiu a Arioc, chefe da guarda do rei, que havia saído para executar todos os sábios babilônios, palavras cheias de prudência e sabedoria:
15 he began to speak and said to Arioch the kings captain,For what cause, is the decree raging forth from before the king? Then did Arioch make the matter known unto Daniel.
15 Por que, perguntou-lhe, uma sentença tão severa da parte do rei? Arioc expôs-lhe o assunto,
16 So Daniel entered in, and desired of the king,that, an appointed time, he would give him, and then, the interpretation, he would declare unto the king.
16 e logo Daniel decidiu-se ir ao rei, para pedir-lhe a concessão de uma prorrogação: daria então ao rei a interpretação {pedida}.
17 Then Daniel, to his own house, departed,and, to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions, made the matter known;
17 Logo que voltou do rei, Daniel pôs a par do assunto seus companheiros Ananias, Misael e Azarias.
18 that, tender compassion, they might seek from before the God of the heavens, concerning this secret,that Daniel and his companions, might not be destroyed, with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.
18 Pediu-lhes para implorarem a misericórdia do Deus dos céus a respeito desse enigma, a fim de que não matassem Daniel e seus companheiros com o resto de Babilônia.
19 Then, unto Danielin a vision of the night, the secret was revealed,whereupon, Daniel, blessed the God of the heavens:
19 O mistério foi então revelado a Daniel numa visão noturna. Pelo que, bendizendo o Deus dos céus,
20 Daniel responded, and said, Let the name of God be blessed from age to age,in that wisdom and might, to him belong;
20 Daniel expressou-se como segue: Bendito seja o nome de Deus de eternidade em eternidade, porque a ele pertencem a sabedoria e o poder!
21 And, he, changeth times and seasons, removeth kings, and setteth up kings,giving wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to them who are skilled in understanding:
21 É ele quem faz mudar os tempos e as circunstâncias; é ele quem depõe os reis e os enaltece; é ele quem dá sabedoria aos sábios e talento aos inteligentes.
22 He, revealeth the deep things, and the hidden,knoweth what is in the darkness, and, light, with him, doth dwell.
22 É ele quem revela os profundos e secretos mistérios, quem conhece o que está mergulhado nas trevas, junto ao qual habita a luz.
23 Unto the, O God of my fathers, do I render thanks and praise, in that, wisdom and might, thou hast given unto me,yea, already, hast thou made known to me that which we desired of thee, for, the matter of the king, hast thou made known unto us.
23 Ó Deus de meus pais, eu vos exalto e vos louvo, porque vós me destes a prudência e a força, e porque vós nos manifestastes o que vos pedimos, revelando-nos o sonho do rei.
24 Therefore, Daniel entered in unto Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon,he went in, and, thus, he said unto him, The wise men of Babylon, do not thou destroy, bring me in before the king, and, the interpretationunto the king, will I declare.
24 Depois disso, Daniel foi procurar Arioc, a quem o rei tinha incumbido do massacre dos sábios de Babilônia. E falou-lhe assim: Não mandes matar os sábios de Babilônia. Introduze-me à presença do rei para que eu lhe dê a explicação.
25 Thereupon, Ariochwith haste, brought in Daniel before the king,and, thus, he said to himI have found a man of the sons of the exile of Judah, who, the interpretationunto the king, will make known.
25 Arioc apressou-se em conduzir Daniel junto ao rei, dizendo-lhe: Achei, entre os deportados da Judéia, um homem que dará ao rei a explicação desejada.
26 The king answered and said unto Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar,Art thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof?
26 O rei dirigiu a palavra a Daniel {que tinha o cognome de Baltazar}: És realmente capaz, disse-lhe, de desvendar-me o sonho que tive e fornecer-me a interpretação?
27 Daniel answered before the king, and said,The secret which the king hath asked, the wise men, the magicians, the sacred scribes, the astrologers, are not able to declare unto the king;
27 O mistério cuja revelação o rei pede, respondeu Daniel ao rei, nem os sábios, nem os mágicos, nem os feiticeiros, nem os astrólogos são capazes de revelar-lhos.
28 but there is a God in the heavens, who revealeth secrets, and hath made known to King Nebuchadnezzar, what shall come to pass, in the afterpart of the days: Thy dream and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are, these:
28 Mas no céu existe um Deus que desvenda os mistérios, o qual quis revelar ao rei Nabucodonosor o que deve suceder no decorrer dos tempos. Eis, portanto, teu sonho e as visões que se apresentaram a teu espírito quando estavas em teu leito.
29 As for thee, O king, thy thoughts upon thy bed, arose regarding what should come to pass hereafter; and, he that revealeth secrets, made known to thee what shall come to pass.
29 Senhor, os pensamentos que vieram ao teu espírito, enquanto estavas em teu leito, são previsões do futuro: aquele que revela os mistérios mostrou-te o futuro.
30 But, as for menot for any wisdom that is in me, more than any of the living, is, this secret, revealed to me,therefore, it is in order that, the interpretationunto the king, they should make known, and that, the thoughts of thy heart, thou shouldst get to know.
30 Quanto a mim, se esse mistério me foi desvendado, não é que haja mais sabedoria em mim do que nos outros homens, mas para eu dar ao rei a interpretação, a fim de que se faça luz nos pensamentos do teu coração.
31 As for thee, O king, thou wast looking, when lo! a great image, this image, being mighty, and the brightness thereof surpassing, was standing before thee,and, the appearance thereof, was terrible.
31 Senhor: contemplavas, e eis que uma grande, uma enorme estátua erguia-se diante de ti; era de um magnífico esplendor, mas de aspecto aterrador.
32 As for this image, its head, was of fine gold, its breast and its arms, were of silver,its belly and its thighs, of bronze;
32 Sua cabeça era de fino ouro, seu peito e braços de prata, seu ventre e quadris de bronze,
33 its legs, of iron,and, its feet, part of them, of iron, and, part of them, of clay.
33 suas pernas de ferro, seus pés metade de ferro e metade de barro.
34 Thou didst look, until that a stone tare itself away, not by the aid of hands, and smote the image upon its feet, which were of iron and clay,and they were broken in pieces.
34 Contemplavas {essa estátua} quando uma pedra se descolou da montanha, sem intervenção de mão alguma, veio bater nos pés, que eram de ferro e barro, e os triturou.
35 Then were broken in pieces at once, the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold, and became like chaff out of the summer threshing-floors, and the wind, carried them away, and, no place, was found for them,but, the stone that smote the image, became a mighty rock, and filled all the land.
35 Então o ferro, o barro, o bronze, a prata e o ouro foram com a mesma pancada reduzidos a migalhas, e, como a palha que voa da eira durante o verão, foram levados pelo vento sem deixar traço algum, enquanto que a pedra que havia batido na estátua tornou-se uma alta montanha, ocupando toda a região.
36 This, is the dream, and, the interpretation thereof, we will tell before the king.
36 Eis o sonho. Agora vamos dar ao rei a interpretação.
37 Thou, O king, art the king of kings,for, the God of the heavens, hath given unto thee, the kingship, the might, the power and the dignity;
37 Senhor: tu que és o rei dos reis, a quem o Deus dos céus deu realeza, poder, força e glória;
38 and, wheresoever the sons of men do dwell, the wild beasts of the field and the birds of the heavens, hath he given into thy hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou, art the head of gold.
38 a quem ele deu o domínio, onde quer que habitem, sobre os homens, os animais terrestres e os pássaros do céu, tu és a cabeça de ouro.
39 And, after thee, shall arise another kingdom, inferior to thee,and anothera third kingdom, of bronze, which shall bear rule throughout all the earth.
39 Depois de ti surgirá um outro reino menor que o teu, depois um terceiro reino, o de bronze, que dominará toda a terra.
40 And, the fourth kingdom, shall be hard as iron,in like manner as iron breaketh in pieces and crusheth all things,even as iron which bringeth to ruins all these, shall it break in pieces and bring to ruins.
40 Um quarto reino será forte como o ferro: do mesmo modo que o ferro esmaga e tritura tudo, da mesma maneira ele esmagará e pulverizará todos os outros.
41 And, whereas thou sawest the feet and the toes, part of them of potters clay, and part of them of iron, the kingdom, shall be, divided, and, of the hardness of the iron, shall there be in it,forasmuch as thou sawest, the iron, combined with the miry clay;
41 Os pés e os dedos, parte de terra argilosa de modelar, parte de ferro, indicam que esse reino será dividido: haverá nele algo da solidez do ferro, já que viste ferro misturado ao barro.
42 and, the toes of the feet, part of them, iron, and, part, of clay,some part of the kingdom, shall be strong, but, a part thereof, shall be brittle;
42 Mas os dedos, metade de ferro e metade de barro, mostram que esse reino será ao mesmo tempo sólido e frágil.
43 and, whereas thou sawest, the iron, combined with the miry clay, they shall be combined with the seed of men, but shall not cleave firmly one to another,lo! as iron is not to be combined with clay.
43 Se viste o ferro misturado ao barro, é que as duas partes se aliarão por casamentos, sem porém se fundirem inteiramente, tal como o ferro que não se amalgama com o barro.
44 And, in the days of those kings, shall the God of the heavens, set up, a kingdom which, to the ages, shall not be destroyed, and, the kingdom, to another people, shall not be left,it shall break in pieces and make an end of all these kingdoms, but, itself, shall stand to the ages.
44 No tempo desses reis, o Deus dos céus suscitará um reino que jamais será destruído e cuja soberania jamais passará a outro povo: destruirá e aniquilará todos os outros, enquanto que ele subsistirá eternamente.
45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that, out of the rock, a stone tare itself away, but not with hands, and brake in pieces the clay, the iron, the bronze, the silver and the gold, the mighty God, hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter. Exact then is the dream, and trusty its interpretation.
45 Foi o que pudeste ver na pedra deslocando-se da montanha sem a intervenção de mão alguma, e reduzindo a migalhas o ferro, o bronze, o barro, a prata e o ouro. Deus, que é grande, dá a conhecer ao rei a sucessão dos acontecimentos. O sonho é bem exato, e sua interpretação é digna de fé.
46 Then, King Nebuchadnezzar, fell upon his face, and, unto Daniel, paid adoration; and, a present and sweet odours, gave he word to pour out unto him.
46 Nesse instante, o rei Nabucodonosor atirou-se de rosto em terra, prostrado diante de Daniel; depois ordenou que lhe fossem oferecidos oblações e perfumes.
47 The king answered Daniel, and saidOf a truth, your God, is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a Revealer of secrets,seeing thou wast able to reveal this secret.
47 Dirigindo-se a Daniel, disse o rei: Vosso Deus é verdadeiramente o Deus dos deuses, o Senhor dos reis; é também o revelador dos mistérios, já que pudeste revelar este.
48 Then, the king, exalted, Daniel, and, many large presents, gave he unto him, and set him to be ruler over all the province of Babylon,and chief of the nobles, over all the wise men of Babylon.
48 O rei elevou Daniel em dignidade, deu-lhe numerosos e ricos presentes; constituiu-o governador de toda a província de Babilônia e o tornou chefe supremo de todos os sábios de Babilônia.
49 And, Daniel, desired of the king, and he appointedover the business of the province of BabylonShadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego,but, Daniel himself, was in the gate of the king.
49 Daniel pediu ao rei e confiou a Sidrac, Misac e Abdênago a administração da província de Babilônia. E Daniel permaneceu na corte real.
