1 And it came to pass, after this, that David enquired of Yahweh, sayingShall I go up into one of the cities of Judah? And Yahweh said unto him, Go up. And David saidWhither shall I go up? And he saidUnto Hebron.
1 Depois disso Davi perguntou a Deus, o Senhor : — Devo ir e governar alguma das cidades de Judá? — Sim! — o — Qual delas? — perguntou ele. — Hebrom! — foi a resposta.
2 So David went up thither, and his two wives also,Ahinoam, the Jezreelitess, and Abigail, wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
2 Então Davi foi para Hebrom, levando consigo as suas duas esposas. Uma era Ainoã, da cidade de Jezreel, e a outra era Abigail, viúva de Nabal, da cidade de Carmelo.
3 His men also who were with him, did David bring up, every man with his household,and they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.
3 Davi também levou os seus soldados com as suas famílias, e eles ficaram morando nas cidades vizinhas de Hebrom.
4 Then came the men of Judah, and anointed David there, to be king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, Men of Jabesh-gilead, were they who buried Saul.
4 Aí os homens de Judá foram a Hebrom e ungiram Davi como rei de Judá. Quando Davi soube que os moradores da cidade de Jabes, da região de Gileade, tinham sepultado Saul,
5 So David sent messengers unto the men of Jabesh-gilead,and said unto themBlessed, be ye of Yahweh, that ye did this lovingkindness unto your lord, unto Saul, and buried him.
5 mandou que alguns homens fossem lá com a seguinte mensagem: — Que o
6 Now, therefore, Yahweh requite you with lovingkindness and truth,moreover also, I, will requite you, for this noble deed, in that ye did this thing.
6 Que o Senhor seja bom e fiel para vocês! Por causa do que fizeram, eu também os tratarei bem.
7 Now, therefore, let your hands be made firm, and become ye sons of valour, for your lord Saul is dead,and, me, moreover have the house of Judah anointed, to be king over them.
7 Sejam fortes e valentes! Saul, o rei de vocês, morreu, e o povo de Judá me ungiu como rei deles.
8 But, Abner son of Ner, prince of the host that pertained unto Saul, took Ish-bosheth, son of Saul, and brought him over to Mahanaim;
8 O comandante do exército de Saul, Abner, filho de Ner, havia fugido com Isbosete, filho de Saul, para Maanaim, no outro lado do rio Jordão.
9 and made him king for Gilead, and for the Ashurites, and for Jezreel,and over Ephraim, and over Benjamin, and over, all Israel.
9 Lá, Abner fez Isbosete rei das terras de Gileade, Aser, Jezreel, Efraim e Benjamim; na verdade, ele o fez rei de todo o povo de Israel.
10 Forty years old, was Ish-bosheth son of Saul, when he began to reign over Israel, and, two years, reigned he,but, the house of Judah, followed David.
10 Isbosete tinha quarenta anos de idade quando começou a reinar em Israel e reinou dois anos. Mas a tribo de Judá ficou fiel a Davi,
11 And it came to pass, that, the number of the days that David was king in Hebron, over the house of Judah, was seven years and six months.
11 e ele a governou em Hebrom sete anos e meio.
12 And Abner son of Ner, and the servants of Ish-bosheth, son of Saul, came out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.
12 Abner e os oficiais de Isbosete foram de Maanaim para a cidade de Gibeão.
13 And, Joab son of Zeruiah, and the servants of David, went out from Hebron and met, by the pool of Gibeon, together, and they sat down, these, by the pool, on the one side, and, those, by the pool, on the other side.
13 Joabe, cuja mãe era Zeruia, e os oficiais de Davi foram encontrá-los perto da represa de Gibeão. Lá todos eles se sentaram, um grupo de um lado da represa e o outro do outro lado.
14 Then said Abner unto Joab, Let the young men arise, I pray thee, and make sport before us. And Joab saidLet them arise.
14 Então Abner disse a Joabe: — Deixe que alguns dos nossos moços enfrentem alguns dos seus, em uma luta armada. — Está bem! — respondeu Joabe.
15 Then there arose, and went over by number,twelve of Benjamin, pertaining to Ish-bosheth, son of Saul, and twelve, of the servants of David.
15 Aí doze soldados, representando Isbosete e a tribo de Benjamim, lutaram contra doze soldados de Davi.
16 And they caught every one his fellow by the head, with his sword in his fellows side, so they fell, together,and that place was called Helkath-hazzadim, which is in Gideon. \fs15
16 Cada um pegou o seu adversário pela cabeça e enfiou a espada no lado dele. E assim todos eles caíram mortos juntos. É por isso que aquele lugar perto da cidade de Gibeão é chamado de “Campo das Espadas”.
17 So the battle became exceeding obstinate, on that day,and Abner and the men of Israel were defeated before the servants of David.
17 Em seguida houve ali uma violenta batalha, e Abner e os israelitas foram derrotados pelos soldados de Davi.
18 Now there were there, three sons of Zeruiah, Joab, and Abishai, and Asahel,and, Asahel, was light of foot as a wild gazelle.
18 Joabe, Abisai e Asael, os três filhos de Zeruia, estavam lá. Asael, que era tão ligeiro como uma gazela selvagem,
19 And Asahel pursued Abner,and turned not, in going, to the right hand or to the left, from pursuing Abner.
19 começou a perseguir Abner, correndo atrás dele.
20 Then Abner looked behind him, and saidArt thou Asahel? And he saidI am.
20 Abner olhou para trás e perguntou: — Asael, é você? — Sim, sou eu! — respondeu ele.
21 Then Abner said to himTurn thee aside, to thy right hand, or to thy left, and lay thee hold on one of the young men, and take thee his armour. But Asahel would not turn aside from pursuing him.
21 — Pare de me perseguir! — disse Abner. — Corra atrás de um dos soldados e pegue para você as coisas dele. Porém Asael continuou a persegui-lo.
22 And Abner said, yet again, unto Asahel, Turn thee aside from pursuing me,wherefore should I smite thee to the earth? how then should I lift up my face unto Joab, thy brother?
22 Mais uma vez Abner disse: — Pare de me perseguir! Você está me forçando a matá-lo! Como é que eu poderia, depois, olhar o seu irmão Joabe nos olhos?
23 Howbeit he refused to turn aside, wherefore Abner smote him with the hinder end of the spear, in the belly, that the spear came out behind him, and he fell there, and died on the spot,and so it was, that, as many as came up to the place where Asahel fell and died, stood still.
23 Porém Asael não parou de persegui-lo. Então Abner deu um golpe para trás com a sua lança. Ela entrou na barriga de Asael e saiu pelas costas. Ele caiu morto no chão, e todos os que chegavam paravam no lugar onde ele estava caído.
24 Then Joab and Abishai pursued Abner,but, the sun, had gone in by the time, they, had come as far as the hill of Ammah, that overlooketh Giah, by way of the wilderness of Gibeon.
24 Mas Joabe e Abisai continuaram a perseguir Abner e, quando o sol estava se pondo, chegaram ao monte de Amá, a leste da cidade de Giá, na estrada que vai para o deserto de Gibeão.
25 And, when the sons of Benjamin had gathered themselves together after Abner, and become one band,and had taken their stand on the top of a certain hill,
25 Os soldados da tribo de Benjamim se reuniram novamente em volta de Abner e ficaram no alto de um morro.
26 then Abner cried aloud unto Joab, and saidTo the uttermost, must the sword devour? Dost thou not well know that, bitter, shall it be, in the latter end? How long, then, wilt thou not bid the people turn back from pursuing their own brethren?
26 Então Abner gritou para Joabe: — Será que vamos ter de continuar lutando para sempre? Você não vê que, no fim, não vai sobrar nada, a não ser amargura? Nós somos seus irmãos! Até quando você vai esperar para mandar que os seus soldados parem de nos perseguir?
27 Then said JoabAs God liveth, surely, if thou hadst not spoken, then in the morning, the people would of themselves have gone up, every man from pursuing his brother.
27 Joabe respondeu: — Juro pelo Deus vivo que, se você não tivesse falado, os meus soldados continuariam a perseguir vocês até amanhã cedo.
28 So Joab blew with the horn, and all the people stood still, and they neither pursued Israel further,nor fought any more.
28 Então Joabe tocou a corneta. Todos os seus soldados pararam de perseguir os israelitas, e a luta acabou.
29 And, Abner and his men, journeyed through the waste plain all that night,and crossed the Jordan, and went through all the Bithron, and entered Mahanaim.
29 Durante toda aquela noite, Abner e os seus soldados marcharam pelo vale do Jordão. Atravessaram o rio Jordão e, depois de marcharem toda a manhã do dia seguinte, chegaram à cidade de Maanaim.
30 And, Joab, returned from pursuing Abner, and, when he had gathered together all the people, there were missing of the servants of Davidnineteen men, and Asahel;
30 Quando Joabe parou a perseguição, reuniu todos os seus soldados e viu que estavam faltando dezenove, além de Asael.
31 but, the servants of David, had smitten of Benjamin, of the men of Abner, three hundred and sixty men, had died.
31 Porém os soldados de Davi haviam matado trezentos e sessenta soldados de Abner, todos eles da tribo de Benjamim.
32 And they carried Asahel, and buried him in the grave of his father, which was in Bethlehem,and Joab and his men journeyed all the night, and had daylight in Hebron.
32 Aí Joabe e os seus soldados pegaram o corpo de Asael e o sepultaram no túmulo da sua família, em Belém. Então marcharam durante a noite inteira e, ao amanhecer, chegaram a Hebrom.
