1 Then said Ahithophel unto Absolom: I pray thee, let me choose for myself, twelve thousand men, and arise, and pursue David to-night;
1 Depois Aitofel disse a Absalão: — Deixe-me escolher doze mil homens, e me disporei e perseguirei Davi esta noite.
2 and let me come upon him, when, he, is weary, and weak-handed, so shall I strike him with terror, and all the people who are with him shall flee,then will I smite the king alone:
2 Vou surpreendê-lo enquanto está cansado e desanimado. Farei com que entre em pânico e todo o povo que está com ele fugirá. Então matarei apenas o rei.
3 that I may bring back all the people unto thee,when all return the man whom thou art seeking, all the people, will be at peace.
3 Trarei todo o povo de volta para você, pois a volta de todos depende daquele a quem você procura matar. Assim, todo o povo estará em paz.
4 And the saying was right in the eyes of Absolom, and in the eyes of all the elders of Israel.
4 Este parecer agradou a Absalão e a todos os anciãos de Israel.
5 Then said Absolom, I pray you, call ye Hushai the Archite also,and let us hear what is in, his, mouth, also.
5 Mas Absalão disse: — Chamem agora Husai, o arquita, e ouçamos também o que ele tem a dizer.
6 And, when Hushai came in unto Absolom, Absolom spake unto him, sayingAfter this manner, hath Ahithophel spoken, shall we do what he saith? if not, thou, speak.
6 Quando Husai chegou, Absalão lhe falou, dizendo: — O parecer de Aitofel é este. Vamos fazer o que ele falou? Se não, diga você o que devemos fazer.
7 Then said Hushai unto Absolom,Not good, is the counsel that Ahithophel hath givenat this time.
7 Então Husai disse a Absalão: — Desta vez o conselho de Aitofel não é bom.
8 And Hushai saidThou, knowest thy father and his menthat, men of might, they are, and, embittered in soul, they are, like a bear bereaved of her young, in the field,thy father also, is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.
8 Husai continuou: — Você conhece o seu pai e os seus homens e sabe que são valentes e estão enfurecidos como a ursa no campo, roubada dos seus filhotes. Além disso, o seu pai é homem de guerra e não passará a noite com o povo.
9 Lo! by this time, hath, he, hidden himself in some pit, or other place,and it shall be, as soon as he falleth upon them at the first, that he that hearkeneth for tidings will hear , and will sayThere is a defeat among the people that are following Absolom:
9 Eis que agora deve estar escondido em alguma caverna ou em outro lugar qualquer. E, se acontecer que você tenha algumas baixas no primeiro ataque, cada um que ouvir isso dirá que houve matança no povo que segue Absalão.
10 then will, even the son of valour himself, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, utterly melt,for all Israel do know that, a man of might, is thy father, and that, sons of valour, are they who are with him.
10 Então até o homem valente, cujo coração é como o coração de leão, com certeza irá desanimar, porque todo o Israel sabe que o seu pai é um herói e que os que estão com ele são homens valentes.
11 Therefore I counselthat there be a general gathering together unto thee of all Israel, from Dan even unto Beer-sheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude,and that, thine own presence, be going on in their midst.
11 Eu aconselho que, a toda pressa, se reúna em torno de você todo o Israel, desde Dã até Berseba, em multidão como a areia do mar, e que você mesmo os guie na batalha.
12 So shall we come upon him in some place where he hath been found, yea, we, shall be upon him, as when the dew falleth upon the ground,and there shall not be left of him, or of the men that are with him, so much as one.
12 Então o atacaremos onde quer que se encontre e facilmente cairemos sobre ele, como o orvalho cai sobre a terra. E não ficará ele nem nenhum dos homens que estão com ele — nem um só!
13 But, if, into a city, he withdraw, then will all Israel bring up unto that city, ropes,and we will drag it down unto the ravine, until there be not found in that place, so much as a small stone.
13 Se ele se retirar para alguma cidade, todo o Israel levará cordas àquela cidade e nós a arrastaremos até o ribeiro, até que lá não fique nem uma só pedrinha.
14 Then said Absolom and all the men of Israel, Better, is the counsel of Hushai the Archite, than the counsel of Ahithophel. Yahweh, indeed, had given charge to frustrate the wise counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that Yahweh might bring upon Absolom, ruin.
14 Então Absalão e todos os homens de Israel disseram: — O conselho de Husai, o arquita, é melhor do que o conselho de Aitofel. Acontece que o
15 So Hushai said unto Zadok and unto Abiathar the priests, Thus and thus, did Ahithophel counsel Absolom and the elders of Israel,and, thus and thus, have, I, counselled.
15 Então Husai disse aos sacerdotes Zadoque e Abiatar: — Assim e assim Aitofel aconselhou a Absalão e aos anciãos de Israel, mas assim e assim aconselhei eu.
16 Now, therefore, send quickly, and tell David, saying,Do not lodge to-night in the waste plains of the wilderness, thou must, even pass over, lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people who are with him.
16 Agora, pois, mandem depressa a seguinte mensagem a Davi: “Não passe esta noite nos vaus do deserto, mas atravesse logo o rio, para que não seja destruído o rei e todo o povo que com ele está.”
17 Now, Jonathan and Ahimaaz, were staying by En-rogel, and a maidservant was to go and tell them, and, they, were to go and tell King David,for they might not be seen to eater the city.
17 Jônatas e Aimaás estavam em En-Rogel. Uma criada ia até lá e lhes passava informações, que eles depois transmitiam ao rei Davi. Eles não podiam ser vistos entrar na cidade.
18 And, though a young man did see them, and told Absolom, yet they both departed quickly, and entered the house of a man in Bahurim, and, he, had a well in his court, into which they went down;
18 Mas um moço os viu e contou a Absalão. Então os dois partiram às pressas e entraram na casa de um homem, em Baurim, que tinha um poço no seu pátio, ao qual desceram.
19 and the woman took and spread the cover over the face of the well, and spread thereon her pounded corn,so nothing was known.
19 A mulher desse homem pegou uma coberta, e a estendeu sobre a boca do poço, e espalhou grãos de cereais sobre ela. E assim ninguém suspeitou de nada.
20 Then came the servants of Absolom unto the woman in the house, and saidWhere are Ahimaaz and Jonathan? And the woman said to themThey have passed over the stream of water. And, when they had searched and not found, they returned to Jerusalem.
20 Quando os servos de Absalão chegaram àquela casa, perguntaram à mulher: — Onde estão Aimaás e Jônatas? A mulher respondeu: — Já passaram o ribeiro. Eles saíram a procurá-los, mas não conseguiram achar. Então voltaram para Jerusalém.
21 And it came to pass, after those had gone, that these came up out of the well, and went, and told King David,and said unto David,Arise ye and pass quickly over the water, for, thus and thus, hath Ahithophel counselled against you.
21 Depois que eles foram embora, os dois logo saíram do poço e foram avisar o rei Davi. Disseram: — Levantem-se e passem depressa as águas, porque assim e assim aconselhou Aitofel contra vocês.
22 So David arose, and all the people who were with him, and passed over the Jordan, by the morning light, so much as one, was not lacking, who had not passed over the Jordan.
22 Então Davi e todo o povo que estava com ele se levantaram e passaram o Jordão. Quando amanheceu, não havia um só que não tivesse passado o Jordão.
23 Now, when, Ahithophel, saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose and went unto his own house, unto his own city, and gave charge unto his household, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the grave of his father.
23 Quando Aitofel viu que o seu conselho não tinha sido seguido, preparou o jumento e foi para casa, na cidade em que morava. Pôs em ordem os seus negócios e se enforcou; morreu e foi sepultado na sepultura do seu pai.
24 When, David, had come to Mahanaim, Absolom, had passed over the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.
24 Davi chegou a Maanaim. Absalão, tendo passado o Jordão com todos os homens de Israel,
25 Now Absolom had appointed, Amasa, instead of Joab, over the army,Amasa, being the son of a man whose name was Ithra the Ishmaelite, who went in unto Abigail, daughter of Nahash, sister of Zeruiah, mother of Joab.
25 colocou Amasa no comando do exército, em lugar de Joabe. Amasa era filho de certo homem chamado Itra, o ismaelita, que era casado com Abigail, filha de Naás e irmã de Zeruia, a mãe de Joabe.
26 And Israel and Absolom encamped in the land of Gilead.
26 E assim o povo de Israel e Absalão acamparam na terra de Gileade.
27 And it came to pass, when David entered Mahanaim, that Shobi son of Nahash of Rabbah of the sons of Ammon and Machir son of Ammiel of Lo-debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite, of Rogelim,
27 Quando Davi chegou a Maanaim, Sobi, filho de Naás, de Rabá, dos filhos de Amom, e Maquir, filho de Amiel, de Lo-Debar, e Barzilai, o gileadita, de Rogelim,
28 brought, sleeping rugs, and basins, and earthen vessels, and wheat and barley, and meal and roasted corn,and beans and lentils, and parched pulse;
28 trouxeram camas, bacias e vasilhas de barro, além de trigo, cevada, farinha, grãos torrados, favas e lentilhas;
29 and honey and cream, and sheep, and cheese of kine, for David, and for the people that were with him, to eat,for they said, The people, are hungry and weary and thirsty, in the wilderness.
29 também mel, coalhada, ovelhas e queijos de leite de vaca. Levaram isso a Davi e ao povo que estava com ele, para que comessem, porque disseram: “Este povo no deserto está faminto, cansado e sedento.”
