1 And Joab, son of Zeruiah, perceived that the heart of the king was towards Absolom.
1 Joabe, cuja mãe era Zeruia, soube que o rei Davi estava sentindo muita saudade de Absalão.
2 So Joab sent to Tekoa, and fetched from thence, a wise woman,and said unto herI pray thee, feign thyself a mourner, and put on, I pray thee, mourning apparel, and do not anoint thyself with oil, but be as a woman that hath, these many days, been mourning for the dead;
2 Então mandou buscar uma mulher esperta que morava na cidade de Tecoa e disse: — Finja que está de luto. Vista as suas roupas de luto e não penteie os cabelos. Faça de conta que você já está de luto há bastante tempo.
3 so shalt thou come in unto the king, and speak unto him, after this manner. And Joab put the words in her mouth.
3 Então vá falar com o rei e diga a ele o que eu vou dizer a você. Aí Joabe disse o que ela devia falar.
4 And, when the woman of Tekoa came in unto the king, she fell on her face to the ground, and did homage,and saidSave, O king!
4 A mulher foi até o lugar onde o rei estava, ajoelhou-se e encostou o rosto no chão em sinal de respeito e disse: — Por favor, me ajude, ó rei!
5 And the king said to herWhat aileth thee? And she saidOf a truth, a widow woman, am I, for my husband is dead.
5 — O que é que você quer? — perguntou ele. Ela respondeu: — O meu marido morreu; eu sou uma pobre viúva.
6 Now, thy maidservant, had two sons, and they two strove together in the field, with none to tear them apart,so the one smote the other, and slew him.
6 Senhor, eu tinha dois filhos. Um dia eles brigaram no campo. Não havia ninguém para apartar a briga, e um deles matou o outro.
7 Lo! therefore, all the family hath risen up against thy maidservant, and have said: Give up him that hath smitten his brother, that we may put him to death, for the life of his brother, whom he hath slain, that we may destroy, the heir also. So will they quench my ember that is left, and make my husband without name or remainder, on the face of the ground.
7 E agora todos os meus parentes ficaram contra mim. Estão exigindo que eu entregue a eles o meu filho porque querem matá-lo, pois ele matou o seu irmão. Se fizerem isso, eu ficarei sem nenhum filho. Eles vão destruir a minha última esperança e vão deixar o meu marido sem nenhum filho para manter vivo o seu nome.
8 And the king said unto the womanGo to thy house, and, I, will give command concerning thee.
8 Davi respondeu: — Volte para casa, que eu cuidarei deste assunto.
9 Then said the woman of Tekoa unto the king, Upon me, my lord, O king, be the iniquity, and upon the house of my father, but, the king and his throne, be guiltless.
9 — Senhor, — disse ela — eu e a minha família aceitaremos a culpa por qualquer coisa que o senhor fizer. O senhor e a sua família ficarão inocentes.
10 And the king said,He that speaketh unto thee, bring him in unto me, and he shall, no more, annoy thee.
10 Então o rei disse: — Se alguém ameaçar você, traga-o aqui, e ele nunca mais a incomodará.
11 Then said she: Let the king, I pray thee, remember Yahweh thy God; so that the blood-redeemer may not make utter ruin, and that they destroy not my son. And he saidBy the life of Yahweh, not one hair of thy son shall fall to the earth.
11 — Senhor, — disse ela — por favor, ore ao Senhor , seu Deus, para que os meus parentes que planejam vingar a morte do meu filho não cometam um crime maior ainda, matando o meu outro filho. Davi disse: — Eu juro pelo
12 Then said the woman, Pray let thy maidservant speak unto my lord the king, a word. And he saidSpeak.
12 — Senhor, — disse a mulher — deixe-me dizer somente mais uma coisa. — Está bem! — respondeu ele.
13 And the woman said, Wherefore, then, hast thou devised the like of this, for the people of God; and yet the king, in speaking this word, is verily guilty, unless the king, bring back his fugitive?
13 — Por que o senhor fez uma coisa tão errada com o povo de Deus? — perguntou ela. — Ó rei, o senhor não deixou que o seu filho voltasse do estrangeiro; assim, com o que acabou de dizer, condenou a si mesmo.
14 For, when we, die, we become as water poured on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again,therefore doth God not take away the life, but deviseth plans so as not to thrust out from him, a fugitive.
14 Todos nós morreremos; somos como a água derramada no chão, que não pode ser juntada de novo. Mesmo Deus não traz os mortos de volta à vida, mas o rei pode dar um jeito de trazer um homem de volta do estrangeiro.
15 Now, therefore, that I have come to speak unto the king my lord this word, because the people kept putting me in fear,so thy maidservant saidDo let me, I pray you, speak unto the king! peradventure the king will fulfil the request of his handmaid.
15 Ó rei, eu vim falar com o senhor agora porque o povo me ameaçou. Aí eu pensei: “Vou falar com o rei, pois tenho a esperança de que ele atenda o meu pedido.”
16 For the king can hearken, to rescue his handmaid out of the power of the man who would seek to destroy both me and my son together, out of the inheritance of God.
16 Pensei que o senhor me atenderia e me salvaria daquele que está tentando matar o meu filho e a mim e que quer nos tirar da terra que Deus deu ao seu povo.
17 So thy maidservant said, Pray let the word of my lord the king be comforting,for, as the messenger of God, so is my lord the king, in hearing the good and the bad, Yahweh thy God, then, be with thee.
17 Eu, a sua criada, também pensei que a sua promessa me salvaria, pois o rei é como o anjo de Deus e sabe tudo. Que o Senhor , nosso Deus, esteja com o senhor!
18 Then responded the king, and said unto the woman, Nay, now! do not hide from me, the thing which I am about to ask thee. And the woman said, Pray let my lord the king speak.
18 — Eu vou lhe fazer uma pergunta — respondeu o rei, — e você vai me dizer toda a verdade. — Pergunte o que quiser, senhor! — respondeu ela.
19 Then said the king, Is, the hand of Joab, with thee, in all this? And the woman answered and saidBy the life of thy soul, my lord, O king, there is no way to the right or to the left, of anything that my lord the king hath spoken, for, thy servant Joab himself, charged me, and, himself, put, in the mouth of thy maidservant, all these words:
19 — Foi Joabe que pôs você nisto, não foi? — perguntou o rei. Ela respondeu: — Digo, por tudo o que é sagrado, que não há jeito de escapar da sua pergunta. Sim, foi o seu oficial Joabe quem me disse o que fazer e o que falar.
20 for the purpose of turning round the face of the matter, hath thy servant Joab done this thing,my lord being wise, as with the wisdom of a messenger of God, in knowing all that is
20 Ele fez isso para resolver este caso. O senhor é sábio como o anjo de Deus e sabe tudo o que acontece.
21 Then said the king unto Joab, See, I pray thee, I a have done this thing,go thenbring back the young man, Absolom.
21 Mais tarde o rei disse a Joabe: — Eu resolvi fazer o que você quer. Vá e traga de volta o jovem Absalão.
22 So Joab fell with his face to the earth, and did homage, and blessed the king,and Joab saidTo-day, doth thy servant know, that I have found favour in thine eyes, my lord O king, in that the king hath fulfilled the request of thy servant.
22 Então Joabe se jogou no chão em frente de Davi em sinal de respeito e disse: — Deus o abençoe, ó rei! Agora eu sei que o senhor está satisfeito comigo, pois atendeu o pedido que eu, o seu criado, fiz.
23 And Joab arose, and went to Geshur,and brought Absolom to Jerusalem.
23 Então Joabe levantou-se, foi à cidade de Gesur e trouxe Absalão de volta para Jerusalém.
24 And the king saidLet him go round to his own house, and, my face, let him not see. So Absolom went round, unto his own house, and, the face of the king, saw he not.
24 No entanto, o rei deu ordem para Absalão não morar no palácio. — Eu não quero vê-lo! — disse ele. Aí Absalão foi morar na sua própria casa e não apareceu mais diante do rei.
25 Now, like unto Absolom, was there no man handsome in all Israel, to be greatly praised,from the sole of his foot, even unto the crown of his head, there was not, in him, a blemish.
25 Em Israel não havia ninguém tão famoso por sua beleza como Absalão. Ele era perfeito da cabeça aos pés.
26 And when he polled his headand it was at every years end that he used to poll it, because it was heavy upon him, therefore he used to poll ithe would weigh the hair of his head, two hundred shekels, by the royal standard.
26 Tinha muito cabelo, que ele cortava uma vez por ano, quando ficava muito comprido e pesado. A sua cabeleira pesava mais de dois quilos, de acordo com a medida real de pesos.
27 And there were born to Absolom three sons, and one daughter, whose name, was Tamar,she, was a woman beautiful to look upon.
27 Ele tinha três filhos e uma filha chamada Tamar, que era muito bonita.
28 So Absolom dwelt in Jerusalem two years of days,and, the face of the king, had he not seen.
28 Absalão morou dois anos em Jerusalém sem ver o rei.
29 Then sent Absolom unto Joab, to send him unto the king, but he would not come to him,so he sent yet a second time, but he would not come.
29 Então mandou buscar Joabe para lhe pedir que fosse falar com o rei em favor dele. Mas Joabe não quis ir. Aí ele mandou buscá-lo de novo, mas Joabe recusou novamente.
30 Then said he unto his servantsSee, the allotted portion of Joab, adjoineth me, and, he, hath barley there, go, and set it on fire. So the servants of Absolom set the portion on fire.
30 Então Absalão disse aos empregados: — Olhem! O campo de Joabe é pegado ao meu, e nele há uma plantação de Então eles foram e puseram fogo no campo de Joabe.
31 Then rose Joab, and went unto Absolom, in his house,and said unto him, Wherefore, have thy servants set the portion that pertaineth to me, on fire?
31 Aí Joabe foi à casa de Absalão e perguntou: — Por que os seus empregados puseram fogo no meu campo?
32 And Absolom said unto JoabLo! I sent unto thee, sayingCome hither, that I may send thee unto the king, sayingWherefore, am I come from Geshur? I, might as well have yet been there. Now, therefore, let me see the face of the king, and, if there is in me iniquity, then let him put me to death.
32 Absalão respondeu: — Eu mandei chamar você. Quero que você vá dizer ao rei Davi o seguinte: “Afinal de contas, por que foi que eu voltei de Gesur? Seria melhor ter ficado lá.” E Absalão continuou: — Eu quero falar com o rei. Se sou culpado, que ele mande me matar.
33 So Joab came unto the king, and told him, and the king called for Absolom, and he came in unto the king, and bowed himself down with his face to the ground, before the king,and the king kissed Absolom.
33 Então Joabe foi conversar com o rei. Aí o rei mandou buscar Absalão, e este veio, ajoelhou-se e encostou o rosto no chão diante dele. E o rei o beijou.
