1 And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha,See, we pray thee, the place wherein we sit before thee, is too strait for us.
1 E os filhos dos profetas disseram a Eliseu: Eis que, agora, o lugar onde habitamos contigo é demasiadamente apertado para nós.
2 Let us go, we pray thee, as far as the Jordan, and fetch from thence every man a single beam, and let us make us a place wherein we may sit. And he saidGo ye.
2 Vamos, nós te rogamos, até ao Jordão, e de lá tome cada homem uma viga, e façamos ali um lugar onde nós possamos habitar. E ele respondeu: Ide vós.
3 Then said oneBe content, we pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he saidI myself, will go.
3 E um disse: Sê contente, rogo-te, e vai com os teus servos. E ele respondeu: Eu irei.
4 So he went with them,and, when they came to the Jordan, they cut down wood.
4 Assim, ele foi com eles. E, quando eles chegaram até o Jordão, cortaram madeira.
5 And it came to pass, as one was felling a branch, that, the axe-head, fell into the water, so he made outcry and saidAlas! my lord, for, it, was borrowed!
5 Porém, enquanto um deles estava derrubando um tronco, a lâmina do machado caiu dentro da água; e ele gritou e disse: Ai, mestre! Isto era emprestado.
6 And the man of God saidWhere fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a piece of wood and cast it in thither, and the iron did swim.
6 E o homem de Deus disse: Onde ele caiu? E ele lhe mostrou o lugar. E ele arrancou um galho, e o lançou ali dentro; e o ferro flutuou.
7 And he saidTake it up to thee. So he put forth his hand, and took it.
7 Portanto, disse ele: Toma-o para ti. E ele estendeu a sua mão e o apanhou.
8 Now, the king of Syria, was making war against Israel,so he took counsel with his servants, sayingIn such and such a place, shall be my encampment.
8 Então, o rei da Síria guerreou contra Israel e tomou conselho com os seus servos, dizendo: Em tal e tal lugar será o meu acampamento.
9 The man of God, therefore, sent unto the king of Israel, sayingBeware of passing by this place,for, thither, are the Syrians coming down.
9 E o homem de Deus enviou ao rei de Israel, dizendo: Acautela-te para que não passes em tal lugar; porque para lá desceram os sírios.
10 So the king of Israel sent unto the place whereof the man of God had spoken to him and warned him, and was on his guard there,not once nor twice
10 E o rei de Israel enviou para o lugar sobre o qual o homem de Deus lhe contara, e de que o alertara, e ali salvou-se, não uma nem duas vezes.
11 Then was the heart of the king of Syria disquieted concerning this thing,and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not tell me, who of our men are for the king of Israel?
11 Portanto, o coração do rei da Síria ficou mui turbado por esta coisa; e ele chamou os seus servos, e disse-lhes: Não me mostrareis vós qual de nós é pelo rei de Israel?
12 Then said one of his servants, None, my lord O king,but, Elisha, the prophet, who is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words which thou speakest in thy bed-chamber.
12 E um dos seus servos disse: Nenhum, meu senhor, ó rei; mas Eliseu, o profeta que está em Israel, conta ao rei de Israel as palavras que tu falas na tua câmara de dormir.
13 And he saidGo, and see where he is, that I may send and take him. And it was told him, sayingLo! in Dothan.
13 E ele disse: Vai e espiona onde ele está, para que eu possa mandar apanhá-lo. E contaram-lhe, dizendo: Eis que ele está em Dotã.
14 Therefore sent he thitherhorses and chariots, and a strong force,and they came in by night, and encompassed the city.
14 Portanto, ele para lá enviou cavalos, e carruagens, e um grande exército; e eles vieram à noite, e impuseram um cerco à cidade.
15 And, when the attendant of the man of God arose early and went forth, lo! a force surrounding the city, with horses and chariots. Then said his young man unto himAlas! my lord, what shall we do?
15 E, quando o servo do homem de Deus havia se levantado cedo, e saído, eis que um exército cercava a cidade tanto com cavalos, quanto com carruagens. E o seu servo disse a ele: Ai, meu mestre! Como faremos?
16 And he saidDo not fear,for, more, are, they who are with us, than, they who are with them.
16 E ele respondeu: Não temas; porque aqueles que estão conosco são mais do que aqueles que estão com eles.
17 Then prayed Elisha, and said, O Yahweh! open, I beseech thee, his eyes, that he may see. And Yahweh opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and lo! the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire, round about Elisha.
17 E Eliseu orou, e disse: SENHOR, rogo-te que abra os seus olhos para que ele possa enxergar. E o SENHOR abriu os olhos do moço; e ele viu; e eis que, o monte estava cheio de cavalos e carruagens de fogo ao redor de Eliseu.
18 And, when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto Yahweh, and saidSmite, I beseech thee, this people, with sudden blindness. And he smote them with sudden blindness, according to the word of Elisha.
18 E quando eles desceram até ele, Eliseu orou ao SENHOR, e disse: Fere este povo, rogo-te, com cegueira. E ele os feriu com cegueira, segundo a palavra de Eliseu.
19 Then Elisha said unto themThis, is not the way, neither is, this, the city, follow me, that I may lead you unto the man, whom ye would secure! So he led them to Samaria.
19 E Eliseu disse-lhes: Esse não é o caminho, nem é esta a cidade; segui-me, e eu vos trarei até o homem a quem buscais. Ele, porém, conduziu-lhes até Samaria.
20 And it came to pass, when they had entered Samaria, that Elisha said, O Yahweh! open the eyes of these men, that they may see! And Yahweh opened their eyes, and they saw, and lo! they were in the midst of Samaria!
20 E sucedeu, quando eles haviam chegado em Samaria, que Eliseu disse: SENHOR, abre os olhos destes homens, para que possam enxergar. E o SENHOR abriu os seus olhos, e eles viram; e, eis que, eles estavam no meio de Samaria.
21 Then said the king of Israel unto Elisha, when he saw them,Shall I smiteshall I smite, my father?
21 E o rei de Israel disse a Eliseu, quando os viu: Meu pai, devo feri-los? Devo feri-los?
22 And he saidThou shalt not smite. Them whom thou hadst taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow, wouldst, thou, have been smiting? Set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go their way unto their lord.
22 E ele respondeu: Tu não os ferirás; feririas tu aqueles aos quais tomastes cativo com a tua espada e com o teu arco? Põe pão e água diante deles para que possam comer e beber, e se vão para o seu mestre.
23 And he made for them a great feast, and, when they had eaten and drunk, he let them go, and they went their way unto their lord. So then, troops of Syrians came again, no more, into the land of Israel.
23 E ele preparou grande provisão para eles; e quando eles haviam comido e bebido, ele os despediu, e foram até o seu mestre. Assim, os bandos da Síria não mais adentraram a terra de Israel.
24 But it came to pass, after this, that Ben-hadad king of Syria gathered together all his host,and came up and laid siege against Samaria.
24 E sucedeu, depois disso, que Ben-Hadade, rei da Síria, reuniu todo o seu exército, e subiu, e sitiou Samaria.
25 And there came to be, a great famine, in Samaria, and lo! they continued the siege against it,until an asss head was sold for eighty pieces of silver, and one pint of doves dung for five pieces of silver.
25 E houve uma grande fome em Samaria; e, eis que eles a sitiaram, até que uma cabeça de jumento foi vendida por oitenta peças de prata, e a quarta parte de um cabo de esterco de pombas por cinco peças de prata.
26 And so it was that, as the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman, made outcry unto him, sayingSave, my lord, O king!
26 E enquanto o rei de Israel estava passando por cima do muro, gritou ali uma mulher, dizendo: Socorro, meu senhor, ó rei.
27 And he saidIf Yahweh do not save thee, whence should I save thee? out of the threshing-floor or out of the wine-press?
27 E ele disse: Se o SENHOR não te ajudar, de onde te ajudarei? Da eira ou do lagar?
28 And the king said to herWhat aileth thee? And she saidThis woman, said unto meGive thy son, that we may eat him, to-day, and, my son, will we eat to-morrow.
28 E o rei disse-lhe: O que te aflige? E ela respondeu: Esta mulher disse para mim: Dá o teu filho, para que possamos comê-lo hoje, e amanhã comeremos o meu filho.
29 So we cooked my son, and did eat him,and I said unto her, on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him; But she had hid her son.
29 Assim, nós cozinhamos o meu filho, e o comemos; e eu disse a ela no dia seguinte: Dá o teu filho, para que possamos comê-lo, e ela havia escondido o seu filho.
30 And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes, while yet he was passing by upon the wall,so the people looked, and lo! sackcloth upon his flesh, within.
30 E sucedeu, quando o rei ouviu as palavras da mulher, que ele rasgou as suas vestes; e passou por cima do muro, e o povo olhou e, eis que ele tinha pano de saco por dentro, sobre a sua carne.
31 And he saidSo, let God do to me, and, so, let him add,if the head of Elisha son of Shaphat remain on him, to-day!
31 Então, ele disse: Deus assim faça, e mais ainda a mim, se a cabeça de Eliseu, o filho de Safate, estiver firme sobre ele neste dia.
32 Now, Elisha, being seated in his house, and, the elders, seated with him,when he had sent a man from before him, ere yet the messenger could come in unto him, he himself, said unto the eldersDo ye see how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away my head? See! when the messenger is coming in, close ye the door, and press him back with the door, is not the sound of his lords feet behind him?
32 Eliseu, porém, estava assentado na sua casa, e os anciãos se assentavam com ele; e o rei enviou um homem adiante de si, mas antes que o mensageiro chegasse até ele, disse ele aos anciãos: Vede vós como este filho de um assassino mandou me cortarem a cabeça? Vede, quando o mensageiro vier, fechai a porta, e contenham-no firmemente junto à porta; o som dos pés do seu mestre não está atrás dele?
33 While yet he was speaking with them, lo! the messenger, coming down unto him,and he said,Lo! this, is a calamity from Yahweh, why should I wait for Yahweh, any longer?
33 E enquanto ele ainda conversava com eles, eis que o mensageiro desceu até ele; e ele disse: Eis que este mal é do SENHOR; o que mais eu deveria esperar do SENHOR?
