1 And it came to pass, in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.
1 Ezequias, filho de Acaz, começou a reinar em Judá no terceiro ano do reinado de Oseias, filho de Elá, rei de Israel.
2 Twenty-five years old, was he when he began to reign, and, twenty-nine years, reigned he in Jerusalem,and, his mothers name, was Abi, daughter of Zachariah.
2 Tinha 25 anos quando começou a reinar, e reinou em Jerusalém por 29 anos. Sua mãe se chamava Abi e era filha de Zacarias.
3 And he did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh,according to all that, David his father, did.
3 Ezequias fez o que era certo aos olhos do S enhor , como seu antepassado Davi.
4 He, removed the high places, and brake in pieces the pillars, and cut down the Sacred Stem,and beat in pieces the serpent of bronze that, Moses, had made, because, until those days, had the sons of Israel been burning incense thereunto, so he called it Nehushtan.
4 Removeu os santuários idólatras, quebrou as colunas sagradas e derrubou os postes de Aserá. Despedaçou a serpente de bronze que Moisés havia feito, pois os israelitas queimavam incenso para ela. A serpente de bronze se chamava Neustã.
5 In Yahweh, God of Israel, did he trust,so that, after him, was none like him, among all the kings of Judah, nor that were before him;
5 Ezequias confiava no S enhor , o Deus de Israel. Não houve ninguém como ele entre todos os reis de Judá, nem antes nem depois.
6 and he did cleave unto Yahweh, he turned not away from following him,but kept his commandments, which, Yahweh, commanded, Moses.
6 Ezequias se apegou ao S enhor , não se afastou dele e teve o cuidado de obedecer a todos os mandamentos que o S enhor tinha ordenado por meio de Moisés.
7 So Yahweh was with him, whithersoever he went forth, he prospered,and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.
7 Assim, o S enhor estava com Ezequias, e ele era bem-sucedido em tudo que fazia. Rebelou-se contra o rei da Assíria e não lhe pagou tributo.
8 He, smote the Philistines, as far as Gazah, and her boundaries,from the watchmens tower even to the fortified city.
8 Derrotou os filisteus até Gaza e seu território, desde o menor posto de vigilância até a maior cidade fortificada.
9 And it came to pass, in the fourth year of King Hezekiahthe same, was the seventh year of Hosea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and laid siege against it;
9 No quarto ano do reinado de Ezequias, o sétimo ano do reinado de Oseias, filho de Elá, rei de Israel, Salmaneser, rei da Assíria, atacou a cidade de Samaria e a cercou.
10 and he captured it at the end of three years, in the sixth year of Hezekiah,the same, is the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, was Samaria captured.
10 Três anos depois, no sexto ano do reinado de Ezequias e no nono ano do reinado de Oseias, rei de Israel, Samaria foi conquistada.
11 So the king of Assyria drave away Israel to Assyria,and settled them in Halah, and in Habor, by the river of Gozan, and the mountains of Media:
11 O rei assírio deportou os israelitas para a Assíria e os colocou em assentamentos em Hala, ao longo das margens do rio Habor, em Gozã, e nas cidades da Média.
12 because they hearkened not unto the voice of Yahweh their God, but transgressed his covenant, all that Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded,they neither hearkened nor performed.
12 Isso aconteceu porque eles não ouviram nem obedeceram ao S enhor , seu Deus. Em vez disso, violaram sua aliança, todas as leis às quais Moisés, servo do S enhor , havia ordenado que obedecessem.
13 And, in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, came up Sennacherib king of Assyria, against all the fortified cities of Judah, and took them.
13 No décimo quarto ano do reinado de Ezequias, Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria, atacou as cidades fortificadas de Judá e as conquistou.
14 Then sent Hezekiah king of Judah unto the king of Assyria, to Lachish, sayingI have sinned, Return from me, What thou shalt lay upon me, I will bear. So the king of Assyria appointed unto Hezekiah king of Judah, three hundred talents of silver, and thirty talents of gold.
14 Ezequias, rei de Judá, enviou esta mensagem ao rei da Assíria, em Laquis: “Cometi um erro. Se você se retirar, eu lhe pagarei qualquer tributo que exigir”. O rei da Assíria exigiu 10.500 quilos de prata e 1.050 quilos de ouro.
15 And Hezekiah delivered up all the silver that was found in the house of Yahweh, and in the treasuries of the house of the king.
15 Para juntar essa quantia, Ezequias usou toda a prata guardada no templo do S enhor e nos tesouros do palácio.
16 At that time, Hezekiah cut off the doors of the temple of Yahweh, and the columns, which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid,and gave them unto the king of Assyria.
16 Arrancou até o ouro das portas e dos batentes do templo do S enhor que ele havia coberto com ouro e entregou tudo ao rei da Assíria.
17 And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rab-saris and Rab-shakeh, from Lachish unto King Hezekiah, with a heavy force to Jerusalem,so they came up and drew near to Jerusalem, and took their stand by the upper channel of the pool, which is in the highway of the fullers field.
17 Apesar disso, o rei da Assíria enviou, de Laquis, seu comandante em chefe, seu comandante de campo e seu porta-voz, juntamente com um grande exército, para confrontarem o rei Ezequias em Jerusalém. Os assírios se posicionaram ao lado do aqueduto que abastece o tanque superior, perto do caminho para o campo onde se lava roupa.
18 Then called they for the king, and there went out unto them Eliakim son of Hilkiah, who was over the household,and Shebnah, the scribe, and Joah son of Asaph, the recorder.
18 Mandaram chamar o rei Ezequias, mas ele enviou os seguintes oficiais ao encontro deles: Eliaquim, filho de Hilquias, o administrador do palácio; Sebna, o secretário da corte; e Joá, filho de Asafe, o historiador do reino.
19 And Rab-shakeh said unto themPray you, say unto Hezekiah,Thus, saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What trust is this wherewith thou dost trust?
19 O porta-voz do rei assírio mandou que transmitissem esta mensagem a Ezequias: “Assim diz o grande rei da Assíria: Em que você confia, que lhe dá tanta segurança?
20 Thou hast saidthey are only words of the lips!Counsel and might for the war. Now, in whom dost thou trust, that thou hast rebelled against me?
20 Pensa que meras palavras podem substituir experiência e força militar? Com quem você conta para se rebelar contra mim?
21 Now, lo! thou dost trust thyself on the support of this bruised cane, on Egypt, whereon, if a man lean, it will enter his hand and lay it open,so, is Pharaoh king of Egypt, to all who trust upon him.
21 Com o Egito? Se você se apoiar no Egito, ele será como um junco que se quebra sob seu peso e perfura sua mão. O faraó, rei do Egito, não é digno de nenhuma confiança!
22 But, if ye should say unto me, In Yahweh our God, do we trust, Then is that not he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath removed, and said unto Judah, and unto JerusalemBefore this altar, shall ye bow down, in Jerusalem?
22 “Talvez vocês digam: ‘Confiamos no S enhor , nosso Deus!’. Mas não foi a ele que Ezequias insultou? Ezequias não destruiu os santuários e altares dele e obrigou todos em Judá e Jerusalém a adorarem somente no altar em Jerusalém?
23 Now, therefore, pledge thyself, I pray thee, with my lord, the king of Assyria,that I supply thee with two thousand horses, if thou, on thy part, be able to set riders upon them.
23 “Vou lhes dizer uma coisa: Façam um acordo com meu senhor, o rei da Assíria. Eu lhes darei dois mil cavalos se forem capazes de encontrar homens em número suficiente para montá-los!
24 How then wilt thou turn back the face of one pasha of the least of my lords servants? Or hast thou, on thy part, trusted to Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
24 Com seu exército minúsculo, como podem pensar em desafiar até o contingente mais fraco do exército de meu senhor, mesmo com a ajuda dos carros de guerra e dos cavaleiros do Egito?
25 Now, is it, without Yahweh, that I have come up against this place, to destroy it? Yahweh himself, said unto me, Go thou up against this land, and destroy it.
25 Além disso, imaginam que invadimos sua terra sem a direção do S enhor ? Foi o próprio S enhor que nos disse: ‘Ataquem essa terra e destruam-na!’”.
26 Then said Eliakim son of Hilkiah, and Shebnah, and Joah, unto Rab-shakeh: Speak, we pray thee, unto thy servants in the, Syrian, language, for, we, can, understand, it,and do not speak with us in, the Jews, language, in the ears of the people who are upon the wall.
26 Então Eliaquim, filho de Hilquias, Sebna e Joá disseram ao porta-voz: “Por favor, fale conosco em aramaico, pois entendemos bem essa língua. Não fale em hebraico, pois o povo sobre o muro o ouvirá”.
27 But Rab-shakeh said unto themIs it, concerning thy lord, and concerning thee, that my lord hath sent me to speak these things? Is it not concerning the men who are tarrying upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung and drink their own water with you?
27 O porta-voz, no entanto, respondeu: “Vocês pensam que meu senhor enviou essa mensagem apenas para vocês e para seu senhor? Ele quer que todo o povo a ouça, pois, quando cercarmos esta cidade, eles sofrerão junto com vocês. Ficarão tão famintos e sedentos que comerão as próprias fezes e beberão a própria urina!”.
28 So then Rab-shakeh took his stand, and cried out with a loud voice, in, the Jews, language,and spake, and said, Hear ye the message of the great king, the king of Assyria:
28 Então o porta-voz se levantou e gritou em hebraico: “Ouçam esta mensagem do grande rei da Assíria!
29 Thus, saith the king: Let not Hezekiah deceive you, for he shall not he able to deliver you out of his hand;
29 Assim diz o rei: Não deixem que Ezequias os engane. Ele jamais será capaz de livrá-los de meu poder.
30 Neither let Hezekiah cause you to trust in Yahweh, saying, Yahweh, will, certainly deliver, us,this city, therefore, shall not be given over into the hand of the king of Assyria.
30 Não deixem que ele os convença a confiar no S enhor , dizendo: ‘Certamente o S enhor nos livrará; esta cidade jamais cairá nas mãos do rei da Assíria!’.
31 Do not hearken unto Hezekiah,for, thus, saith the king of Assyria, Deal with me thankfully, and come out unto me, then shall ye eatevery one of his own vine, and every one of his own fig-tree, and drink every one the waters of his own cistern;
31 “Não deem ouvidos a Ezequias! Estas são as condições que o rei da Assíria oferece: Façam as pazes comigo, abram as portas e saiam. Então, cada um de vocês continuará a comer de sua própria videira e de sua própria figueira e a beber de seu próprio poço.
32 Until I come and take you, into a land like your own landA land of corn and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive and honey, so shall ye live, and not die,But do not hearken unto Hezekiah, for he would persuade you, saying, Yahweh, will deliver us!
32 Depois, providenciarei que sejam levados a outra terra como esta, uma terra com cereais e vinho novo, com pão e vinhedos, com olivais e mel. Escolham a vida, e não a morte! “Não deem ouvidos a Ezequias quando ele tentar enganá-los, dizendo: ‘O S
33 Have, the gods of the nations, at all delivered, any one of them, his country, out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
33 Acaso os deuses de alguma outra nação livraram seu povo do rei da Assíria?
34 Where are the gods of Hamath, and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena and Ivvah? Yea, did they deliver Samaria out of my hand?
34 O que aconteceu aos deuses de Hamate e de Arpade? E quanto aos deuses de Sefarvaim, de Hena e de Iva? Acaso algum deus livrou Samaria de meu poder?
35 Who are they, among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country, out of my hand,that, Yahweh, should deliver, Jerusalem, out of my hand?
35 Qual dos deuses de qualquer nação foi capaz de livrar seu povo de meu poder? O que os faz pensar que o S enhor pode livrar Jerusalém de minhas mãos?”.
36 But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word,for, the command of the king, it was, sayingYe must not answer him.
36 Mas o povo permaneceu em silêncio e não disse uma palavra sequer, pois Ezequias havia ordenado: “Não lhe respondam”.
37 Then came in Eliakim son of Hilkiah who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah son of Asaph the recorder, unto Hezekiah, with rent clothes,and they told him the words of Rab-shakeh.
37 Então Eliaquim, filho de Hilquias, administrador do palácio, Sebna, secretário da corte, e Joá, filho de Asafe, historiador do reino, voltaram a Ezequias. Rasgaram suas roupas e foram contar ao rei o que o porta-voz tinha dito.
