1 Seven years old, was Joash when he began to reign, and, forty years, reigned he, in Jerusalem,and, the name of his mother, was Zibiah, of Beersheba.
1 Joás tinha 7 anos quando começou a reinar, e reinou em Jerusalém por quarenta anos. Sua mãe se chamava Zíbia e era de Berseba.
2 And Joash did that which was right, in the eyes of Yahweh,-all the days of Jehoiada the priest.
2 Joás fez o que era certo aos olhos do S enhor enquanto o sacerdote Joiada estava vivo.
3 And Jehoiada took for him two wives,and he begat sons and daughters.
3 Joiada escolheu duas esposas para Joás, e ele teve filhos e filhas.
4 And it came to pass, after this, that it was near the heart of Joash to renew the house of Yahweh.
4 Algum tempo depois, Joás resolveu fazer reparos no templo do S enhor .
5 So he gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said unto themGo ye out unto the cities of Judah, and gather out of all Israel silver to repair the house of your God, year by year, and, ye, shall hasten the matter,but the Levites hastened it not.
5 Reuniu os sacerdotes e os levitas e lhes deu as seguintes instruções: “Vão a todas as cidades de Judá e recolham o imposto anual para fazer os reparos no templo do S enhor . Façam isso logo!”. Os levitas, porém, não se apressaram.
6 Then the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said unto him, Wherefore hast thou not required of the Levites, to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the tribute of Moses the servant of Yahweh, and of the convocation of Israel,for the tent of testimony?
6 Então o rei mandou chamar o sumo sacerdote Joiada e lhe perguntou: “Por que você não exigiu que os levitas saíssem e recolhessem os impostos que as cidades de Judá e a cidade de Jerusalém devem pagar para o templo? Moisés, servo do S enhor , estabeleceu que a comunidade de Israel pagasse esse imposto para a manutenção do tabernáculo da aliança”.
7 For, as for Athaliah the Lawless, her sons, brake up the House of God,moreover, all the hallowed things of the house of Yahweh, offered they unto the Baalim.
7 Ao longo dos anos, os seguidores da perversa Atalia haviam arrombado o templo de Deus e usado os objetos sagrados do templo do S enhor para adorar as imagens de Baal.
8 So the king bade , and they made a certain chest,and set it in the gate of the house of Yahweh, outside.
8 Por isso, o rei ordenou que fizessem uma caixa grande e a colocassem do lado de fora da porta do templo do S enhor .
9 And they made a proclamation, throughout Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in unto Yahweh the tribute of Moses the servant of God, laid upon Israel in the desert.
9 Então foi proclamado em Judá e em Jerusalém que o povo devia trazer ao S enhor o imposto que Moisés, servo de Deus, havia requerido dos israelitas no deserto.
10 And all the rulers and all the people rejoiced,and brought in and cast into the chest, until they had finished.
10 Isso agradou todos os líderes e o povo, e eles trouxeram de bom grado suas contribuições e as colocaram na caixa até enchê-la.
11 And it came to pass, what time the chest was brought into the office of the king by the hand of the Levites, and when they had seen that abundant was the silver, that the scribe of the king came in, and the officer of the chief priest, and they emptied the chest, and bare it, and put it back in its place,thus, they did, day by day, and collected silver, in abundance;
11 Sempre que a caixa ficava cheia, os levitas a levavam aos oficiais do rei. O secretário da corte e um oficial do sumo sacerdote a esvaziavam e a levavam de volta ao templo. Assim faziam diariamente e reuniram muitos recursos.
12 and the king and Jehoiada gave it unto such as were doing the work of labouring upon the house of Yahweh, and they were hiring masons and carpenters, to renew the house of Yahweh,moreover also, such as were fashioners of iron and bronze, to repair the house of Yahweh.
12 O rei e Joiada entregavam o valor aos supervisores da construção, que contratavam pedreiros, carpinteiros e artífices que trabalhavam com ferro e bronze para reformar o templo do S enhor .
13 So the doers of the work wrought, and the work of restoration went forward, in their hand,and they caused the house of God to stand forth according to its due proportions, and made it strong.
13 Os homens encarregados da reforma trabalhavam com dedicação, e a obra foi progredindo. Restauraram o templo de Deus de acordo com o modelo original e o reforçaram.
14 And, when they had finished, they brought in before the king and Jehoiada the rest of the silver, and he made it into utensils for the house of Yahweh, utensils of attendance, and bowls and spoons, even utensils of gold and silver. Then were they offering ascending-sacrifices in the house of Yahweh, continually, all the days of Jehoiada.
14 Quando todos os reparos foram concluídos, trouxeram ao rei e a Joiada os recursos que sobraram. O valor foi usado para fazer diversos objetos para o templo do S enhor , utensílios para o serviço e para os holocaustos, além de vasilhas e outros objetos de ouro e de prata. Enquanto o sacerdote Joiada viveu, os holocaustos eram oferecidos continuamente no templo do S enhor .
15 But Jehoiada waxed old and became satisfied with days, and died,a hundred and thirty years old, when he died.
15 Joiada viveu muitos anos e morreu em idade avançada, com 130 anos.
16 And they buried him in the city of David, with the kings,because he had done good in Israel, both toward God and his house.
16 Foi sepultado entre os reis na Cidade de Davi, pois havia feito o bem em Israel para Deus e seu templo.
17 Now, after the death of Jehoiada, came the rulers of Judah, and bowed themselves down unto the king,then, hearkened the king unto them.
17 Depois da morte de Joiada, os líderes de Judá vieram ao rei Joás e se curvaram diante dele, e ele ouviu seus conselhos.
18 And they forsook the house of Yahweh, God of their fathers, and served the Sacred Stems, and the images,so there was wrath against Judah and Jerusalem, for this their guilt.
18 Abandonaram o templo do S enhor , o Deus de seus antepassados, e adoraram postes de Aserá e ídolos. Por causa desse pecado, a ira de Deus veio sobre Judá e Jerusalém.
19 And he sent among them prophets, to bring them back unto Yahweh,and they testified against them, but they would not give ear.
19 Ainda assim, o S enhor enviou profetas para trazê-los de volta para ele. Os profetas os advertiram, mas o povo não quis ouvir.
20 And, the spirit of God, clothed Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest, and he took his stand above the people,and said unto them, Thus, saith God, Wherefore are, ye, transgressing the commandments of Yahweh, so that ye cannot prosper, because ye have forsaken Yahweh, therefore hath he forsaken you.
20 Então o Espírito de Deus veio sobre Zacarias, filho do sacerdote Joiada. Ele se pôs em pé diante do povo e disse: “Isto é o que Deus diz: ‘Por que vocês desobedecem aos mandamentos do S enhor e, com isso, deixam de prosperar? Visto que abandonaram o S enhor , agora ele os abandonou!’”.
21 So they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones, by the commandment of the king,in the court of the house of Yahweh.
21 Então os líderes conspiraram contra Zacarias, e o rei ordenou que ele fosse morto por apedrejamento no pátio do templo do S enhor .
22 Thus Joash the king, remembered not, the lovingkindness which Jehoiada his father had done for him, but slew his son,and, as he died, he said, Yahweh see and require!
22 O rei Joás não levou em conta a lealdade que Joiada, pai de Zacarias, lhe havia demonstrado, e matou seu filho. As últimas palavras de Zacarias antes de morrer foram: “Que o S enhor veja o que estão fazendo e vingue a minha morte!”.
23 And it came to pass, when the year had gone round, that the force of Syria came up against him, and they entered Judah, and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the rulers of the people, from among the people,and, all the spoil of them, sent they unto the king of Damascus.
23 Na virada do ano, o exército sírio marchou contra Joás. Invadiram Judá e Jerusalém e mataram todos os líderes do povo. Enviaram para seu rei em Damasco tudo que haviam saqueado.
24 Although, with a comparatively few men, came the force of Syria, yet, Yahweh, delivered into their hand an exceeding large force,because they had forsaken Yahweh, the God of their fathers,and, upon Joash, executed they judgments.
24 Embora os sírios tivessem atacado com apenas um exército pequeno, o S enhor entregou em suas mãos o exército muito maior de Judá. O povo de Judá havia abandonado o S enhor , o Deus de seus antepassados, por isso o juízo foi executado contra Joás.
25 And, when they had departed from him, for they left him with sore diseases, his own servants conspired against him, for the blood of the son of Jehoiada the priest, and slew him upon his bed, and he died,and, though they buried him in the city of David, yet did they not bury him in the sepulchres of the kings.
25 Os sírios se retiraram e deixaram Joás gravemente ferido. Seus próprios oficiais conspiraram contra ele porque havia assassinado o filho do sacerdote Joiada e o mataram em sua cama. Ele foi sepultado na Cidade de Davi, mas não no cemitério dos reis.
26 Now, these, are they that conspired against him,Zabad son of Shimeath the Ammonitess, and Jehozabad son of Shimrith the Moabitess.
26 Os assassinos foram Jozacar, filho de uma amonita chamada Simeate, e Jeozabade, filho de uma moabita chamada Somer.
27 But, as for his sons, and the greatness of the oracle on him, and the foundation of the house of God, lo! there they are written, in the commentary of the Book of Kings,and Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.
27 O relato sobre os filhos de Joás, as muitas profecias a respeito dele e o registro da reforma do templo de Deus estão registrados no Comentário sobre o Livro dos Reis . Seu filho Amazias foi seu sucessor.
