1 And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned unto his own house in peace, to Jerusalem.
1 Quando Josafá, rei de Judá, voltou em segurança a seu palácio, em Jerusalém,
2 And there came out to meet him, Jehu son of Hanani, the seer, who said unto King Jehoshaphat, Unto the lawless, was it to give help? and, on them who hate Yahweh, to bestow thy love? For this cause, therefore, is there wrath against thee, from before Yahweh;
2 o vidente Jeú, filho de Hanani, saiu ao encontro dele. “Por que o rei ajuda os perversos e ama os que odeiam o S enhor ?”, perguntou-lhe Hanani. “Por causa disso, o S enhor está muito irado com você.
3 howbeit, good things, are found with thee,-for that thou hast consumed the Sacred Stems out of the land, and hast fixed thy heart to seek God.
3 Mas ainda há algo de bom em você, pois removeu os postes de Aserá de toda a terra e buscou a Deus de todo o coração.”
4 So Jehoshaphat dwelt in Jerusalem,and he again went forth among the people, from Beersheba as far as the hill country of Ephraim, and brought them back unto Yahweh, the God of their fathers.
4 Josafá morava em Jerusalém, mas saía para visitar o povo por todo o território, desde Berseba até a região montanhosa de Efraim, a fim de animar todos a voltarem para o S enhor , o Deus de seus antepassados.
5 And he stationed judges in the land, throughout all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city;
5 Nomeou juízes na terra, em todas as cidades fortificadas,
6 and said unto the judges, See what, ye, are doing, inasmuch as, not for man, must ye judge, but for Yahweh,who will be with you, in the word of justice.
6 e lhes disse: “Sejam cuidadosos! Lembrem-se de que não estão julgando para agradar as pessoas, mas para agradar o S enhor . Ele estará com vocês sempre que derem um veredito.
7 Now, therefore, let the dread of Yahweh be upon you,observe and do, for there is, with Yahweh our God, neither perversity nor respect of persons nor the taking of bribes.
7 Temam o S enhor e julguem com integridade, pois o S enhor , nosso Deus, não tolera injustiça, nem parcialidade, nem suborno”.
8 And, even in Jerusalem, did Jehoshaphat station some of the Levites and the priests, and of the ancestral chiefs of Israel, to pronounce the just sentence of Yahweh, and to settle disputes,when they returned to Jerusalem.
8 Em Jerusalém, Josafá nomeou alguns levitas, sacerdotes e chefes de famílias de Israel para julgarem os casos que envolvessem a lei do S enhor e questões civis.
9 And he laid charge upon them, saying,Thus, shall ye act, in the fear of Yahweh, faithfully and with an undivided heart.
9 Estas foram suas ordens para eles: “Ajam sempre no temor do S enhor , com fidelidade e coração íntegro.
10 Any dispute that shall come in unto you from among your brethren who are dwelling in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment and statutes and regulations, then shall ye warn them, that they may not become guilty against Yahweh, and so wrath come upon you and upon your brethren,Thus, shall ye act, and not incur guilt.
10 Toda vez que chegar até vocês uma causa de seus compatriotas israelitas de outras cidades, seja de homicídio, seja de outra violação da lei, dos mandamentos, dos decretos ou dos estatutos de Deus, advirtam-nos para que eles não pequem contra o S enhor , a fim de que a ira dele não venha sobre vocês e sobre eles. Se agirem desse modo, estarão livres de culpa.
11 And lo! Amariah the chief priest, is over you as to every matter of Yahweh, and Zebadiah son of Ishmael the chief ruler for the house of Judah, as to every matter of the king, and, as officers, the Levites are before you,Be strong and act, and Yahweh be with the good!
11 “Amarias, o sumo sacerdote, terá a última palavra nos casos relacionados ao S enhor . Zebadias, filho de Ismael, líder da tribo de Judá, terá a última palavra em todas as questões relativas ao reino. Os levitas os ajudarão nesses trabalhos. Sejam corajosos no cumprimento de seus deveres, e que o S enhor esteja com aqueles que agirem corretamente!”.
