1 Now, the Philistines, having taken the ark of God,brought it in from Eben-ezer, unto Ashdod.
1 Os filisteus tomaram a arca de Deus e a levaram de Ebenézer a Asdode.
2 And, when the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon,and placed it by the side of Dagon.
2 Tomaram os filisteus a arca de Deus e a meteram na casa de Dagom, junto a este.
3 And, when they of Ashdod rose early on the morrow and entered into the house of Dagon, they looked and lo! Dagon, was lying prostrate on his face to the earth, before the ark of Yahweh,so they took Dagon and restored him to his place.
3 Levantando-se, porém, de madrugada os de Asdode, no dia seguinte, eis que estava caído Dagom com o rosto em terra, diante da arca do Senhor ; tomaram-no e tornaram a pô-lo no seu lugar.
4 And, when they rose up early in the morning of the morrow, lo! Dagon, was lying prostrate on his face to the earth, before the ark of Yahwehand, the head of Dagon, and both the palms of his hands, had been cut off against the threshold, only, Dagon himself, was left to him.
4 Levantando-se de madrugada no dia seguinte, pela manhã, eis que Dagom jazia caído de bruços diante da arca do Senhor ; a cabeça de Dagom e as duas mãos estavam cortadas sobre o limiar; dele ficara apenas o tronco.
5 For this cause, do not the priests of Dagon, nor any that enter into the house of Dagon, tread upon the threshold of Dagon, in Ashdod,until this day.
5 Por isso, os sacerdotes de Dagom e todos os que entram no seu templo não lhe pisam o limiar em Asdode, até ao dia de hoje.
6 Then was the hand of Yahweh heavy against them of Ashdod, and he astounded them,and smote with tumours Ashdod and her bounds.
6 Porém a mão do Senhor castigou duramente os de Asdode, e os assolou, e os feriu de tumores, tanto em Asdode como no seu território.
7 And, when the men of Ashdod saw that, so, it was, then kept they saying, Let not the ark of the God of Israel abide with us, for, hard, is his hand upon us, and upon Dagon our god.
7 Vendo os homens de Asdode que assim era, disseram: Não fique conosco a arca do Deus de Israel; pois a sua mão é dura sobre nós e sobre Dagom, nosso deus.
8 So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and saidWhat shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they said: To Gath, let the ark of the God of Israel go round. So they took round the ark of the God of Israel.
8 Pelo que enviaram mensageiros, e congregaram a si todos os príncipes dos filisteus, e disseram: Que faremos da arca do Deus de Israel? Responderam: Seja levada a arca do Deus de Israel até Gate e, depois, de cidade em cidade. E a levaram até Gate.
9 And so it was, after they had taken it round, then was the hand of Yahweh against the city, with an exceeding great consternation, and he smote the men of the city, from the least, even unto the greatest,and they brake out with tumours.
9 Depois de a terem levado, a mão do Senhor foi contra aquela cidade, com mui grande terror; pois feriu os homens daquela cidade, desde o pequeno até ao grande; e lhes nasceram tumores.
10 Then sent they the ark of God to Ekron,and so it was, when the ark of God entered Ekron, that the Ekronites made outcry, sayingThey have brought round unto me the ark of the God of Israel, to slay me, and my people!
10 Então, enviaram a arca de Deus a Ecrom. Sucedeu, porém, que, em lá chegando, os ecronitas exclamaram, dizendo: Transportaram até nós a arca do Deus de Israel, para nos matarem, a nós e ao nosso povo.
11 So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and saidSend away the ark of the God of Israel, and restore it to its own place, that it slay not me, and my people. For there had come a deadly consternation, throughout all the city, heavy exceedingly, was the hand of God there.
11 Então, enviaram mensageiros, e congregaram a todos os príncipes dos filisteus, e disseram: Devolvei a arca do Deus de Israel, e torne para o seu lugar, para que não mate nem a nós nem ao nosso povo. Porque havia terror de morte em toda a cidade, e a mão de Deus castigara duramente ali.
12 And, the men who died not, were smitten with the tumours,so the cry of the city for help, ascended the heavens.
12 Os homens que não morriam eram atingidos com os tumores; e o clamor da cidade subiu até ao céu.
