1 And it came to pass, when Saul had returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying: Lo! David is in the wilderness of En-gedi.
1 Quando Saul voltou de perseguir os filisteus, foi-lhe dito: — Eis que Davi está no deserto de En-Gedi.
2 Then Saul took three thousand chosen men, out of all Israel,and went to seek David and his men, over the face of the rocks of the mountain-goats.
2 Então Saul tomou três mil homens, escolhidos dentre todo o Israel, e foi ao encalço de Davi e dos seus homens, nas encostas das rochas das cabras selvagens.
3 And he came into the sheep-folds by the way, there, being a cave, which Saul entered, to cover his feet,David and his men, in the hinder part of the cave, having taken up their abode.
3 Chegou a uns currais de ovelhas no caminho, onde havia uma caverna. Saul entrou nela, para fazer as suas necessidades. Ora, Davi e os seus homens estavam sentados no mais interior da caverna.
4 So Davids men said unto himLo! the day of which Yahweh said unto theeLo! I am about to deliver up thine enemy, into thy hand: therefore shall thou do unto him, as shall be good in thine eyes. And David arose, and cut off the corner of the robe which belonged to Saul, by stealth.
4 Então eles disseram a Davi: — Hoje é o dia do qual o Então Davi se levantou e, sem ser notado, cortou a ponta do manto de Saul.
5 And it came to pass afterwards that Davids heart smote him,because he had cut off the corner which belonged to Saul.
5 Mas depois Davi ficou com dor no coração por ter cortado a ponta do manto de Saul
6 And he said unto his menFar be it from me, of Yahweh, that I should do this thing unto my lord, unto the Anointed of Yahweh, to thrust forth my hand against him,for, the Anointed of Yahweh, is he!
6 e disse aos seus homens: — O
7 So David did chide his men with the words, and did not suffer them to rise up against Saul. And, Saul, rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.
7 Com estas palavras, Davi conteve os seus homens e não permitiu que se levantassem contra Saul. Então Saul se levantou, saiu da caverna e seguiu o seu caminho.
8 Then David rose up, afterwards, and went forth out of the cave, and cried out after Saul, sayingMy lord, O king! And, when Saul looked about behind him, David inclined his face to the earth, and bowed himself down.
8 Depois, também Davi se levantou e, saindo da caverna, gritou a Saul, dizendo: — Ó rei, meu senhor! Quando Saul olhou para trás, Davi se inclinou e lhe fez reverência, com o rosto em terra.
9 Then said David to Saul, Wherefore shouldst thou hearken unto the words of the sons of earth, saying,Lo! David is seeking thy hurt?
9 E Davi disse a Saul: — Por que o senhor dá atenção às palavras dos que dizem que Davi quer fazer-lhe mal?
10 Lo! this day, have thine own eyes seen, how Yahweh had delivered thee up, to-day, into my hand in the cave, and, when one bade me slay thee, I looked with compassion upon thee,and I saidI will not thrust forth my hand against my lord, for, the Anointed of Yahweh, is he!
10 Eis que hoje o meu senhor pode ver com os seus próprios olhos que o Senhor Deus o pôs nas minhas mãos nesta caverna, e alguns disseram que eu deveria matá-lo. Mas eu o poupei, porque disse: “Não estenderei a mão contra o meu senhor, pois é o ungido de Deus.”
11 But, my father, see, yea, see, the corner of thy robe in my hand,for, in that I cut off the corner of thy robe, and yet did not slay thee, know thou, and see, that there is not in my hand either wrong or transgression, neither have I sinned against thee, yet art thou hunting my life, to take it.
11 Veja, meu pai, veja aqui na minha mão a ponta do seu manto. Por eu haver cortado a ponta do seu manto sem matá-lo, reconheça e veja que não há em mim nem mal nem rebeldia. Nunca pequei contra o rei, ainda que ele esteja à caça da minha vida para tirá-la de mim.
12 Let Yahweh do justice betwixt me and thee, and let Yahweh avenge me of thee,but, mine own hand, shall not be upon thee.
12 Que o Senhor Deus julgue entre nós dois e me vingue do rei; porém não estenderei a minha mão contra o rei.
13 As saith the proverb of the ancients, From the lawless, proceedeth lawlessness,mine own hand, therefore shall not be upon thee.
13 Como o provérbio dos antigos diz: “Dos perversos procede a perversidade.” Mas eu não estenderei a minha mão contra o senhor, meu rei.
14 After whom, hath the king of Israel come forth? After whom, art thou in pursuit? After a dead dog! after a single flea!
14 Atrás de quem saiu o rei de Israel? A quem persegue? A um cão morto? A uma pulga?
15 Therefore shall, Yahweh, become, judge, and do justice betwixt me and thee,that he may see, and plead my cause, and justly deliver me out of thy hand.
15 Que o Senhor Deus seja o meu juiz e julgue entre nós dois. Que ele examine e defenda a minha causa, me faça justiça e me livre das mãos do rei.
16 And it came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words unto Saul, that Saul said, Thy voice, is this, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.
16 Quando Davi acabou de falar todas estas palavras, Saul disse: — É esta a sua voz, meu filho Davi? E Saul chorou em alta voz.
17 And he said unto David, More righteous, art thou than I, for, thou, hast requited me, good, but, I, have requited thee, evil.
17 Então disse a Davi: — Você é mais justo do que eu, pois me recompensou com o bem, enquanto eu o recompensei com o mal.
18 Thou, then, hast told to-day, how thou hast dealt with me, for good,how, when Yahweh had surrendered me into thy hand, thou didst not slay me.
18 Hoje você mostrou que me fez o bem, pois o Senhor me havia posto em suas mãos, e você não me matou.
19 Yet, when a man findeth his enemy, will he let him get easily away? Yahweh, then, give thee, good, reward for what, this day, thou hast done unto me.
19 Porque quem é que encontra o inimigo e o deixa ir sem lhe fazer mal? Que o Senhor lhe pague com o bem por aquilo que você fez por mim no dia de hoje.
20 Now, therefore, lo! I know that thou, shalt indeed become king,and that the kingdom of Israel, shall be established in thy hand.
20 Agora tenho certeza de que você será rei e de que o reino de Israel se manterá firme na sua mão.
21 Now, therefore, swear unto me by Yahweh, that thou wilt not eat off my seed, after me,and wilt not destroy my name out of the house my father.
21 Portanto, jure pelo Senhor que você não eliminará a minha descendência, nem apagará o meu nome da casa de meu pai.
22 So David sware unto Saul,and Saul departed unto his own house, but, David and his men, went up on the stronghold.
22 E Davi jurou a Saul. Este foi para casa, mas Davi e os seus homens foram ao lugar seguro.
