1 If Jehovah does not build the house, it is vain for the builders to work on it. If Jehovah does not protect a city, it is vain for the guard to stay alert.
1 Se não for o Senhor o construtor da casa, será inútil trabalhar na construção. Se não é o Senhor que vigia a cidade, será inútil a sentinela montar guarda.
2 It is vain to work hard for the food you eat by getting up early and going to bed late. Jehovah gives food to those he loves while they sleep.
2 Será inútil levantar cedo e dormir tarde, trabalhando arduamente por alimento. O Senhor concede o sono àqueles a quem ama.
3 Children are an inheritance from Jehovah. They are a blessing from him.
3 Os filhos são herança do Senhor, uma recompensa que ele dá.
4 The children born to a man when he is young are like arrows in the hand of a warrior.
4 Como flechas nas mãos do guerreiro são os filhos nascidos na juventude.
5 Blessed is the man who has filled his quiver with them. He will not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the city gate.
5 Como é feliz o homem cuja aljava está cheia deles! Não será humilhado quando enfrentar seus inimigos no tribunal.
