1 In that hour the disciples came to Jesus. They asked: »Who is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?«
1 Naquela mesma hora chegaram-se a Jesus os seus discípulos e perguntaram: Quem é o maior no reino do céu?
2 He took a little child and put him in the middle of them.
2 E Jesus, chamando uma criancinha, colocou-a no meio deles,
3 He said: »Truly I tell you, if you do not have a change of heart and become like little children, you will not go into the kingdom of heaven.
3 e disse: Na verdade eu vos digo que, se não vos converterdes e não vos tornardes como criancinhas, de modo algum entrareis no reino do céu.
4 »He who humbles himself to become like this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
4 Portanto, todo aquele que se humilhar como esta criancinha, esse é o maior no reino do céu.
5 »Everyone who accepts this little child in my name accepts me.
5 E quem receber em meu nome uma criancinha, tal como esta, recebe a mim.
6 »He who causes one of my faithful little ones to stumble is in trouble. It would be better for him to end up in the deep sea with a great stone tied to his neck.
6 Mas, quem ofender um destes pequeninos que creem em mim, seria melhor para ele que pendurasse ao pescoço uma pedra de moinho, e que se afogasse no fundo do mar.
7 »A curse is on the earth because of stumbling! It is necessary for stumbling to come. Unhappy is that man through whom the stumbling comes.
7 Ai do mundo, por causa das ofensas! Pois é necessário que venham ofensas; mas ai do homem por quem vem a ofensa!
8 »If your hand or your foot is a cause of stumbling cut it off. Get rid of it. It is better for you to go into life with the loss of a hand or a foot than, having two hands or two feet, to be destroyed by eternal fire.
8 Portanto, se a tua mão ou o teu pé te ofender, corta-o, e lança-o para longe de ti; é melhor para ti entrar na vida coxo ou aleijado, do que, tendo duas mãos ou dois pés, seres lançado no fogo eterno.
9 »If your eye causes you stumbling, take it out and throw it away. It is better for you to go into life with one eye than, having two eyes, to be destroyed in ever-burning fires in the Valley of Hinnom Greek: Gehenna.
9 E, se o teu olho te ofender, arranca-o, e lança-o para longe de ti; é melhor para ti entrar na vida com um olho só, do que, tendo dois olhos, seres lançado no fogo do inferno.
10 »Do not treat these little ones badly. I tell you that angels represent them in the presence of my Father in heaven.
10 Vede, não desprezeis a nenhum destes pequeninos, porque eu vos digo que os seus anjos no céu sempre veem a face de meu Pai que está no céu.

11 Portanto o Filho do homem veio salvar o que estava perdido.
12 »What do you think? A man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone wandering away. Will he leave the ninety-nine and go in search of the wandering one?
12 O que vos parece? Se algum homem tiver cem ovelhas, e uma delas se desgarrar, ele não irá pelos montes, deixando as noventa e nove, em busca da que se desgarrou?
13 »When he finds it, I tell you he will be filled with more joy than he would have if he had stayed with the ninety-nine.
13 E, se porventura a encontra, na verdade eu vos digo que ele se regozijará mais com aquela ovelha, do que pelas noventa e nove que não se desgarraram.
14 »Even so, your Father in heaven does not want any of these little ones to be lost.
14 Assim também, não é a vontade de vosso Pai que está no céu, que se pereça um destes pequeninos.
15 »If your brother does wrong to you, go to him in private. Clearly explain his error between you and him. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother back.
15 Além disso, se teu irmão pecar contra ti, vai, e diz-lhe a sua culpa entre ti e ele somente; se ele te ouvir, ganhaste a teu irmão.
16 »If he does not listen to you, take one or two more people with you. Two or three witnesses may prove every case.
16 Se, porém, ele não te ouvir, então leva contigo mais um ou dois, para que pela boca de duas ou três testemunhas cada palavra seja confirmada.
17 »If he will not listen to them, let it come to the attention of the congregation. If he will not listen to the congregation, let him be to you as a heathen and a tax collector.
17 E, se ele recusar ouvi-los, dize-o à igreja; mas se recusar ouvir a igreja, seja ele para ti como um homem gentio e um publicano.
18 »I tell you; whatever things are fixed by you on earth will be declared improper and unlawful in heaven. Whatever you make free on earth will be declared lawful in heaven.
18 Na verdade eu vos digo: Tudo o que ligardes na terra será ligado no céu, e tudo o que desligardes na terra será desligado no céu.
19 »Again, I say to you, that if two of you are in agreement on earth about anything for which they will make a request, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.
19 Ainda eu vos digo que, se dois de vós concordarem na terra acerca de qualquer coisa que pedirem, isso lhes será feito por meu Pai que está no céu.
20 »Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in their midst.«
20 Porque, onde estiverem dois ou três reunidos em meu nome, ali estou eu no meio deles.
21 Peter came to him and said: »Lord, How many times may my brother do wrong against me, and I forgive him? Seven times?«
21 Então Pedro, aproximando-se dele, disse: Senhor, até quantas vezes o meu irmão pecará contra mim, e eu o perdoarei? Até sete vezes?
22 Jesus said to him: »Not seven times; but seventy times seven.
22 Jesus lhe disse: Eu não te digo que até sete vezes; mas até setenta vezes sete.
23 »The kingdom of heaven is like a king who went over his accounts with his servants.
23 Portanto, o reino do céu é semelhante a certo rei, que quis acertar contas com os seus servos.
24 »First, one came to him who owed him ten thousand talents.
24 E, começando a acertá-las, foi-lhe apresentado um que lhe devia dez mil talentos.
25 »He was not able to make payment. So his lord gave orders for him to be sold. His wife, sons, and daughters were all to be sold along with every possession. The money would be used for payment of what he owed.
25 Porém, não tendo ele com que pagar, ordenou seu senhor que fossem vendidos ele, e sua esposa e seus filhos, e tudo que ele tinha, e que o pagamento fosse feito.
26 »So the servant fell on his face out of respect. He said: Lord, give me time to make payment and I will pay everything.
26 Então o servo se prostrou, e o adorou, dizendo: Senhor, tem paciência comigo, e eu tudo te pagarei.
27 »Being moved with pity, the lord let him go, and made him free of the debt.
27 Então, movido de compaixão, o senhor do servo soltou-o e perdoou-lhe a dívida.
28 »Then that servant met another servant who was in debt to him for one hundred denarii. He took him by the throat, saying, Pay your debt now.
28 Saindo, porém, este servo, encontrou um dos seus conservos, que lhe devia cem denários; e, lançando mão dele, tomou-o pela garganta, dizendo: Paga-me o que tu me deves.
29 »That servant fell down before him, saying, Give me time and I will make payment to you.
29 Então o seu conservo, caindo-lhe aos pés, pediu-lhe, dizendo: Tem paciência comigo, e eu te pagarei tudo.
30 »He would not give him time. He put him into prison till he paid the debt.
30 Ele, porém, não quis; antes, lançou-o na prisão, até que pagasse a dívida.
31 »When the other servants saw what happened, they were very sad. They told their lord what had been done.
31 Vendo, pois, os seus conservos o que foi feito, entristeceram-se muito, e foram contar a seu senhor tudo o que foi feito.
32 »His lord sent for him, and said: Evil servant; I made you free of all that debt, because of your request to me.
32 Seu senhor então, chamando-o, disse-lhe: Servo perverso, perdoei-te toda aquela dívida, porque tu me suplicaste.
33 »Should you also show mercy to your fellow servant the same way I showed mercy to you?
33 Não devias tu, igualmente, ter compaixão do teu conservo, como eu também tive misericórdia de ti?
34 »His lord was angry and sent him to jail to be punished until he paid back all of his debt.
34 E, indignado, o seu senhor o entregou aos atormentadores, até que ele pagasse tudo o que lhe devia.
35 »My heavenly Father will treat you like that if you do not forgive your brother from your heart.«
35 Assim também meu Pai celeste fará convosco, se de coração não perdoardes cada um as ofensas do seu irmão.
