Jeremias 10

1 Listen house of Israel, Hear the word Jehovah speaks to you.
1 Ouvi a palavra que o Senhor vos fala a vós outros, ó casa de Israel.
2 This is what Jehovah says: »Do not learn the practices of the nations. Do not be frightened by the signs in the sky because they frighten the nations.«
2 Assim diz o Senhor : Não aprendais o caminho dos gentios, nem vos espanteis com os sinais dos céus, porque com eles os gentios se atemorizam.
3 The peoples customs are erroneous and empty. It is wood cut from the forest. It is the work of the hands of a craftsman with a cutting tool.
3 Porque os costumes dos povos são vaidade; pois cortam do bosque um madeiro, obra das mãos do artífice, com machado;
4 »They decorate it with silver and with gold. They fasten it with nails and with hammers so that it will not tip over.
4 com prata e ouro o enfeitam, com pregos e martelos o fixam, para que não oscile.
5 »They are like scarecrows in cucumber fields. They cannot speak. They must be carried, for they cannot walk! Do not fear them! For they can do no harm and they can do no good.«
5 Os ídolos são como um espantalho em pepinal e não podem falar; necessitam de quem os leve, porquanto não podem andar. Não tenhais receio deles, pois não podem fazer mal, e não está neles o fazer o bem.
6 There is none like you, O Jehovah. You are great and your name is powerful.
6 Ninguém há semelhante a ti, ó Senhor ; tu és grande, e grande é o poder do teu nome.
7 Who would not respect you, O King of the nations? It is your right! There is none like you among all the wise men of the nations.
7 Quem te não temeria a ti, ó Rei das nações? Pois isto é a ti devido; porquanto, entre todos os sábios das nações e em todo o seu reino, ninguém há semelhante a ti.
8 They are very stupid and foolish. They teach vanity to a tree. Their idol is wood!
8 Mas eles todos se tornaram estúpidos e loucos; seu ensino é vão e morto como um pedaço de madeira.
9 Beaten silver is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz. It is the work of a craftsman and of the hands of a goldsmith. Violet and purple are their clothing. They are all the work of skilled men.
9 Traz-se prata batida de Társis e ouro de Ufaz; os ídolos são obra de artífice e de mãos de ourives; azuis e púrpuras são as suas vestes; todos eles são obra de homens hábeis.
10 Jehovah is the true faithfulright God! He is the living God and the everlasting king. The earth quakes at his wrath. The nations cannot endure his indignation.
10 Mas o Senhor é verdadeiramente Deus; ele é o Deus vivo e o Rei eterno; do seu furor treme a terra, e as nações não podem suportar a sua indignação.
11 You will say to the idolaters: »The gods that did not make the heavens and the earth will perish from the earth and from under the heavens.«
11 Assim lhes direis: Os deuses que não fizeram os céus e a terra desaparecerão da terra e de debaixo destes céus.
12 He who made the earth by his power, and established the world by his wisdom; also stretched out the heavens by his understanding.
12 O Senhor fez a terra pelo seu poder; estabeleceu o mundo por sua sabedoria e com a sua inteligência estendeu os céus.
13 He speaks, and the water in the sky produces a storm. He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth. He makes lightning flash with the rain. He brings wind out of his storehouses.
13 Fazendo ele ribombar o trovão, logo há tumulto de águas no céu, e sobem os vapores das extremidades da terra; ele cria os relâmpagos para a chuva e dos seus depósitos faz sair o vento.
14 Every man is stupid lacking knowledge. Every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols. His molten images are deceitful. There is no breath in them.
14 Todo homem se tornou estúpido e não tem saber; todo ourives é envergonhado pela imagem que ele mesmo esculpiu; pois as suas imagens são mentira, e nelas não há fôlego.
15 They are worthless, a work of mockery. In the time of their punishment they will perish.
15 Vaidade são, obra ridícula; no tempo do seu castigo, virão a perecer.
16 Jacobs share is not like this. For he made everything! Israel is the tribe of his inheritance. Jehovah of Hosts is his name.
16 Não é semelhante a estas Aquele que é a Porção de Jacó; porque ele é o Criador de todas as coisas, e Israel é a tribo da sua herança; Senhor dos Exércitos é o seu nome.
17 Pick up your bundle from the ground, you who dwell under siege!
17 Tira do chão a tua trouxa, ó filha de Sião, que moras em lugar sitiado.
18 Jehovah says: »I am evicting the inhabitants of the land at this time. I will cause them distress that they may be found.«
18 Porque assim diz o Senhor : Eis que desta vez arrojarei para fora os moradores da terra e os angustiarei, para que venham a senti-lo.
19 Oh, I am wounded! My wound is serious. Then I thought that this is my punishment, and I will bear it.
19 Ai de mim, por causa da minha ruína! É mui grave a minha ferida; então, eu disse: com efeito, é isto o meu sofrimento, e tenho de suportá-lo.
20 My tent is destroyed. All the ropes are broken. My children have left me and have disappeared. There is no one to set up my tent again or put up my tent curtains.
20 A minha tenda foi destruída, todas as cordas se romperam; os meus filhos se foram e já não existem; ninguém há que levante a minha tenda e lhe erga as lonas.
21 The shepherds are foolish. They do not look to Jehovah for help. That is why they will not succeed and all their flocks will be scattered.
21 Porque os pastores se tornaram estúpidos e não buscaram ao Senhor ; por isso, não prosperaram, e todos os seus rebanhos se acham dispersos.
22 The report has arrived. Listen! An incredible uproar is coming from the land of the north. Its army will destroy Judah's cities and make them homes for jackals.
22 Eis aí um rumor! Eis que vem grande tumulto da terra do Norte, para fazer das cidades de Judá uma assolação, morada de chacais.
23 O Jehovah, I know that humans are not able to govern their own lives. Humans cannot administer their own steps.
23 Eu sei, ó Senhor , que não cabe ao homem determinar o seu caminho, nem ao que caminha o dirigir os seus passos.
24 Correct me, O Jehovah but please be fair. Do not correct me when you are angry. Otherwise, you will reduce me to nothing.
24 Castiga-me, ó Senhor , mas em justa medida, não na tua ira, para que não me reduzas a nada.
25 Pour out your fury on the nations who do not know you and on people who do not worship you. They have devoured the descendants of Jacob. They have devoured them completely. They have destroyed their homes.
25 Derrama a tua indignação sobre as nações que não te conhecem e sobre os povos que não invocam o teu nome; porque devoraram a Jacó, devoraram-no, consumiram-no e assolaram a sua morada.
