1 »Hear, O Israel, you are about to cross the Jordan River. You will force out nations that are larger and mightier than you, with big cities that have sky-high walls.
1 Ouve, ó Israel: Hoje deves passar o Jordão, para possuíres nações maiores e mais poderosas do que tu, cidades grandes e muradas até o céu,
2 »Their people are tall and strong. They are descendants of Anakim. You know all about them. You also heard it said: Who can oppose the descendants of Anak?
2 um povo grande e alto, os filhos dos anaquins, a quem conheces e de quem ouviste falar. Quem pode resistir diante os filhos de Anaque?
3 »Understand today that Jehovah your God is the one who is going ahead of you like a consuming ragingdevouring fire. He will wipe them out. Then he will use you to crush their power. You will take possession of their land and will quickly destroy them as Jehovah promised you.
3 Entendemos portanto neste dia, que o SENHOR teu Deus é aquele que vai adiante de ti; como um fogo consumidor, ele os destruirá, e fará com que caiam diante da tua face; assim tu os expulsarás, e os destruirás rapidamente, como o SENHOR te ordenou.
4 »When Jehovah your God expels these people right before your very eyes, do not say to yourselves: Jehovah brought us here to possess this land because we live right are righteous. This is not the case. It is because these nations are so wicked that Jehovah is forcing them out of your way.
4 Não fales no teu coração, depois que o SENHOR teu Deus os tiver lançado fora de diante de ti, dizendo: Pela minha justiça o SENHOR me trouxe para possuir esta terra; mas pela iniquidade destas nações, o SENHOR os expulsou de diante de ti.
5 »It is not because you have been living right or because you are so honest that you enter to take possession of their land. It is because these people are so wicked that Jehovah your God is forcing them out of your way. It is also because Jehovah wants to confirm the promise he swore to your fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
5 Não é pela tua justiça, nem pela retidão do teu coração, que vais possuir a terra; mas pela iniquidade dessas nações, o SENHOR teu Deus as expulsa de diante de ti, e para que ele possa realizar a obra que o SENHOR jurou a teus pais, Abraão, Isaque e Jacó.
6 »Understand this! It is not because you have been living right that Jehovah your God is giving you this good land to possess. You are a rebellious and impossible stiff-neckedstubborn people!
6 Entende, portanto, que não é pela tua justiça que o SENHOR teu Deus te dá esta boa terra para possuí-la, pois tu és um povo obstinado.
7 »Never forget how you made Jehovah your God angry in the desert. You rebelled against Jehovah from the day you left Egypt until you came here.
7 Lembra-te, e não te esqueças como provocaste à ira ao SENHOR teu Deus no deserto; desde o dia em que deixastes a terra do Egito, até que chegastes a este lugar, fostes rebeldes contra o SENHOR.
8 »Even at Mount Horeb you made Jehovah so angry that he wanted to destroy you.
8 Também em Horebe provocastes à ira ao SENHOR, e o SENHOR se irou convosco, para vos destruir.
9 »When I went up on the mountain to get the stone tablets, the tablets of the promise that Jehovah made to you, I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights without food or water.
9 Quando subi ao monte para receber as tábuas de pedra, as tábuas do pacto que o SENHOR fez convosco, permaneci no monte quarenta dias e quarenta noites; não comi pão nem bebi água;
10 »Then Jehovah gave me the two stone tablets inscribed by Gods finger Holy Spirit. On them were written all the words Jehovah spoke to you from the fire on the mountain on the day of the assembly.
10 e o SENHOR me entregou duas tábuas de pedra, escritas com o dedo de Deus; e nelas havia escrito conforme todas as palavras que o SENHOR falou convosco no monte, do meio do fogo, no dia da congregação.
11 »At the end of forty days and nights Jehovah gave me the two stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant.
11 E aconteceu que no fim de quarenta dias e quarenta noites, que o SENHOR me deu as duas tábuas de pedra, as tábuas do pacto.
12 »Jehovah said to me: Go down from here quickly, for your people whom you brought out of Egypt have acted corruptly. They quickly turned aside from the way that I commanded them. They have made a cast-idol for themselves.
12 E o SENHOR me disse: Levanta-te, desce rapidamente daqui, porque o teu povo, que tiraste do Egito se corrompeu; eles se afastaram, rapidamente, do caminho que eu lhes ordenei; eles fizeram para si mesmos uma imagem de fundição.
13 »Jehovah spoke further to me: I have seen this people. They are a very stubborn people.
13 Além disso, o SENHOR falou comigo, dizendo: Eu vi esse povo, e eis que é um povo obstinado;
14 »Leave me alone that I may destroy them and blot out their name from under heaven. I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.
14 deixe-me sozinho, para que eu os destrua, e apague o seu nome de debaixo do céu; e farei de ti uma nação maior e mais poderosa do que eles.
15 »So I turned and came down from the mountain while the mountain was burning with fire. I carried the two stone tablets of the covenant in my two hands.
15 Assim, eu me virei, e desci do monte, e o monte ardia com fogo; e as duas tábuas do pacto estavam em minhas duas mãos.
16 »I saw that you had indeed sinned against Jehovah your God. You made yourselves an idol, cast in the shape of a calf. You turned aside quickly from the way Jehovah had commanded you.
16 E olhei, e eis que vós havíeis pecado contra o SENHOR vosso Deus, e vós tínheis feito um bezerro fundido; vos desviastes rapidamente do caminho que o SENHOR vos havia ordenado.
17 »I took hold of the two tablets and threw them from my hands and smashed them before your eyes.
17 E olhei as duas tábuas, e as lancei de minhas duas mãos, e as quebrei diante dos vossos olhos.
18 »I fell down before Jehovah. Like the first, forty days and nights I did not eat or drink. This was because of all your sin you committed in doing what was evil in the sight of Jehovah to provoke Him to anger.
18 E caí diante do SENHOR, como nos primeiros quarenta dias e quarenta noites; não comi pão, nem bebi água, por causa de todos os vossos pecados, que pecastes, agindo impiamente aos olhos do SENHOR para provocá-lo à ira.
19 »I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure from Jehovah. For he was wrathful against you to the point of destroying you! But Jehovah listened to me that time also.
19 Porque tive medo, por causa da ira e do grande desprazer com que o SENHOR se acendeu contra vós, para vos destruir. Mas também neste tempo o SENHOR me ouviu.
20 »Jehovah was angry enough with Aaron to destroy him! So I also prayed for Aaron at the same time.
20 E o SENHOR se irou com Arão para destruí-lo, e ao mesmo tempo orei por Arão.
21 »I took your sinful thing, the calf that you had made, and burned it with fire and crushed it. I ground it very small until it was as fine as dust. I threw its dust into the brook that flowed down the mountain.
21 E tomei o vosso pecado, o bezerro que havíeis feito, e o queimei com fogo e o pisei, e o moí em pedaços muito pequenos, até que ficaram pequenos como o pó, e lancei o seu pó no ribeiro que descia do monte.
22 »Again at Taberah and at Massah and at Kibroth-hattaavah you provoked Jehovah to anger.
22 E em Taberá, e em Massá, e em Quibrote-Hataavá provocastes a ira do SENHOR.
23 »Jehovah sent you from Kadesh-barnea. He said: Go up and possess the land I have given you. Then you rebelled against the command of Jehovah your God. You did not believe him. You did not listen to his voice!
23 Do mesmo modo quando o SENHOR vos enviou de Cades-Barneia, dizendo: Ide e possuí a terra que vos dei; então vos rebelastes contra o mandamento do SENHOR vosso Deus, e não crestes nele, nem ouvistes a sua voz.
24 »You have rebelled against Jehovah from the day I knew you.
24 Fostes rebeldes contra o SENHOR desde o dia em que vos conheci.
25 »So I fell down prostrate before Jehovah the forty days and forty nights. I did this because Jehovah said he would destroy you.
25 Assim, caí diante do SENHOR quarenta dias e quarenta noites, como caí na primeira, porque o SENHOR havia dito que vos destruiria.
26 »I prayed to Jehovah and said: O Jehovah our God, do not destroy your people for they are your inheritance. You have redeemed them through your greatness. You brought them out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
26 Portanto orei diante do SENHOR, e disse: Ó Senhor DEUS, não destruas o teu povo e a tua herança, que resgataste com a tua grandeza, que trouxeste do Egito com mão forte.
27 »»Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Do not look at the stubbornness of this people or at their wickedness or their sin.
27 Lembra-te dos teus servos, Abraão, Isaque e Jacó; não olhes para a teimosia deste povo, nem para a sua iniquidade, nem para o seu pecado,
28 »»The land from which you brought us may say: »Jehovah was not able to bring them into the land he promised them and because he hated them he has brought them out to slay them in the desert wilderness.«
28 para que a terra de onde nos tiraste não diga: Pois o SENHOR não pôde trazê-los à terra que lhes prometeu, e porque os odiava, ele os tirou para matá-los no deserto.
29 »Even now they are your people, your inheritance, whom you brought out by your great power and outstretched arm.«
29 Mas eles são o teu povo e a tua herança, que trouxeste pelo teu grande poder e pelo teu braço estendido.
