1 It was the thirty-sixth year of Asas reign. King Baasha of Israel invaded Judah and built fortified Ramah to prevent anyone from going to or coming from King Asa of Judah.
1 No trigésimo sexto ano do reinado de Asa, Baasa, rei de Israel, subiu contra Judá e edificou a Ramá, para não deixar ninguém sair, nem chegar a Asa, rei de Judá.
2 Then Asa brought out all the silver and gold that was left in the treasuries of Jehovahs Temple and the royal palace. He sent them to Damascus to King Benhadad.
2 Então Asa tirou a prata e o ouro dos tesouros da casa do Senhor, e da casa do rei; e enviou servos a Ben-Hadade, rei da Síria, que habitava em Damasco, dizendo:
3 He said: »There is a treaty between you and me as there was between your father and my father. I am sending you silver and gold. Now break your treaty with King Baasha of Israel so that he will leave me alone.«
3 Acordo há entre mim e ti, como houve entre meu pai e o teu; eis que te envio prata e ouro; vai, pois, e anula o teu acordo com Baasa, rei de Israel, para que se retire de sobre mim.
4 Benhadad agreed to do what King Asa requested. He sent his generals and their armies to attack the cities of Israel. He conquered Ijon, Dan, Abel Maim, and all the storage cities in the territory of Naphtali.
4 E Ben-Hadade deu ouvidos ao rei Asa, e enviou os capitães dos seus exércitos, contra as cidades de Israel, e eles feriram a Ijom, a Dã, a Abel-Maim, e a todas as cidades-armazéns de Naftali.
5 When King Baasha heard what happened he stopped fortifying Ramah and abandoned the work.
5 E sucedeu que, ouvindo-o Baasa, deixou de edificar a Ramá, e não continuou a sua obra.
6 King Asa gathered men from throughout Judah and had them carry off the stones and timbers that Baasha had been using at Ramah. They used them to fortify the cities of Geba and Mizpah.
6 Então o rei Asa tomou a todo o Judá, e levaram as pedras de Ramá, e a sua madeira, com que Baasa edificara; e com elas edificou a Geba e a Mizpá.
7 Then the prophet Hanani went to King Asa. He said: »Because you relied on the king of Syria instead of relying on Jehovah your God, the army of the king of Israel has escaped from you.
7 Naquele mesmo tempo veio Hanani, o vidente, a Asa, rei de Judá, e disse-lhe: Porquanto confiaste no rei da Síria, e não confiaste no Senhor teu Deus, por isso o exército do rei da Síria escapou da tua mão.
8 »The Ethiopians and the Libyans, did they have large armies with many chariots and cavalry troops? But because you relied on Jehovah he gave you victory over them.
8 Porventura não foram os etíopes e os líbios um grande exército, com muitíssimos carros e cavaleiros? Confiando tu, porém, no Senhor, ele os entregou nas tuas mãos.
9 »The eyes of Jehovah keep close watch over the entire world. He gives strength shows His strength to in behalf of those whose hearts are loyal to him. You have acted foolishly! Therefore from now on you will always be at war.«
9 Porque, quanto ao Senhor, seus olhos passam por toda a terra, para mostrar-se forte para com aqueles cujo coração é perfeito para com ele; nisto, pois, procedeste loucamente porque desde agora haverá guerras contra ti.
10 Asa was so angry with the prophet that he had him put in chains. It was at this same time that Asa began treating some of the people cruelly.
10 Porém Asa se indignou contra o vidente, e lançou-o na casa do tronco; porque estava enfurecido contra ele, por causa disto; também Asa, no mesmo tempo, oprimiu a alguns do povo.
11 All the events of Asas reign from beginning to end are recorded in The History of the Kings of Judah and Israel.
11 E eis que os atos de Asa, tanto os primeiros, como os últimos, estão escritos no livro dos reis de Judá e Israel.
12 In the thirty-ninth year that Asa was king a severe foot disease crippled him. Even then he did not turn to Jehovah for help, but to doctors.
12 E, no ano trinta e nove do seu reinado, Asa caiu doente de seus pés, a sua doença era em extremo grave; contudo, na sua enfermidade, não buscou ao Senhor, mas antes os médicos.
13 Two years later he died.
13 E Asa dormiu com seus pais; e morreu no ano quarenta e um do seu reinado.
14 Asa was buried in the rock tomb that he had carved out for himself in Davids City. They used spices and perfumed oils to prepare his body for burial. They built a huge bonfire to mourn his death.
14 E o sepultaram no seu sepulcro, que tinha cavado para si na cidade de Davi, havendo-o deitado na cama, que se enchera de perfumes e especiarias preparadas segundo a arte dos perfumistas; e, destas coisas fizeram-lhe uma grande queima.
