1 On that same day, after Jesus had left the house, he took his seat on the seashore;
1 Naquele dia, saiu Jesus e sentou-se à beira do lago.
2 and such a great crowd gathered about him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the crowd stood on the beach.
2 Acercou-se dele, porém, uma tal multidão, que precisou entrar numa barca. Nela se assentou, enquanto a multidão ficava à margem.
3 Then he told them many truths in parables. "Behold," he said, "the sower went forth to sow;
3 E seus discursos foram uma série de parábolas.
4 and as he sowed, some seed fell by the roadside, and the birds came and ate it.
4 Disse ele: Um semeador saiu a semear. E, semeando, parte da semente caiu ao longo do caminho; os pássaros vieram e a comeram.
5 Some fell on rocky ground where there was not much earth. Now because it had no depth of soil, it sprang up at once;
5 Outra parte caiu em solo pedregoso, onde não havia muita terra, e nasceu logo, porque a terra era pouco profunda.
6 but when the sun rose it was scorched, and withered away because it had no root.
6 Logo, porém, que o sol nasceu, queimou-se, por falta de raízes.
7 Some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked it.
7 Outras sementes caíram entre os espinhos: os espinhos cresceram e as sufocaram.
8 But some fell on good soil, and bore a crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
8 Outras, enfim, caíram em terra boa: deram frutos, cem por um, sessenta por um, trinta por um.
9 He who has ears, let him hear!"
9 Aquele que tem ouvidos, ouça.
10 Now when his disciples came up to him, they said,
10 Os discípulos aproximaram-se dele, então, para dizer-lhe: Por que lhes falas em parábolas?
11 "Why do you speak to them in parables?" Jesus answered. "To you it has been granted to understand the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven; but to them it has not been granted.
11 Respondeu Jesus: Porque a vós é dado compreender os mistérios do Reino dos céus, mas a eles não.
12 "For whoever holds, to him shall more be given, and he shall have abundance; but whoever does not hold, from him shall be taken away even what he holds.
12 Ao que tem, se lhe dará e terá em abundância, mas ao que não tem será tirado até mesmo o que tem.
13 "This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.
13 Eis por que lhes falo em parábolas: para que, vendo, não vejam e, ouvindo, não ouçam nem compreendam.
14 And in them is being fulfilled that prophecy of Isaiah which says. "Hearing you will hear and not understand; Seeing you will see and not perceive;
14 Assim se cumpre para eles o que foi dito pelo profeta Isaías: Ouvireis com vossos ouvidos e não entendereis, olhareis com vossos olhos e não vereis,
15 For the heart of his people is made fat, Their ears are dull of hearing; Their eyes, too, have they closed, Lest some day their eyes should perceive, And their ears should hear, And their heart should understand and turn, And I should heal them.
15 porque o coração deste povo se endureceu: taparam os seus ouvidos e fecharam os seus olhos, para que seus olhos não vejam e seus ouvidos não ouçam, nem seu coração compreenda; para que não se convertam e eu os sare {Is 6,9s}.
16 "But happy are your eyes, because they see, and your ears because they hear.
16 Mas, quanto a vós, bem-aventurados os vossos olhos, porque vêem! Ditosos os vossos ouvidos, porque ouvem!
17 "In solemn truth I tell you that many prophets and holy men have seen it not, and to hear what you are hearing, and have not heard it.
17 Eu vos declaro, em verdade: muitos profetas e justos desejaram ver o que vedes e não o viram, ouvir o que ouvis e não ouviram.
18 "Listen then, to the parable of the sower.
18 Ouvi, pois, o sentido da parábola do semeador:
19 "Whenever any one hears the message of the kingdom, and does not understand it, the Evil One comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart.
19 quando um homem ouve a palavra do Reino e não a entende, o Maligno vem e arranca o que foi semeado no seu coração. Este é aquele que recebeu a semente à beira do caminho.
20 "This is the seed sown by the wayside. And the word, and at once receives it with joy.
20 O solo pedregoso em que ela caiu é aquele que acolhe com alegria a palavra ouvida,
21 "But he has no root in himself; he continues for a time, but when trouble arises, or persecutions, on account of the word, at once he stumbles and falls.
21 mas não tem raízes, é inconstante: sobrevindo uma tribulação ou uma perseguição por causa da palavra, logo encontra uma ocasião de queda.
22 "And the seed sown among thorns is he who hears the word, but the anxieties of the age and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.
22 O terreno que recebeu a semente entre os espinhos representa aquele que ouviu bem a palavra, mas nele os cuidados do mundo e a sedução das riquezas a sufocam e a tornam infrutuosa.
23 "But the seed sown in good soil is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit, and makes now an hundredfold, now sixty, now thirty."
23 A terra boa semeada é aquele que ouve a palavra e a compreende, e produz fruto: cem por um, sessenta por um, trinta por um.
24 He told them another parable. "The kingdom of heaven," he said, "is like a man who sowed good seed in his field;
24 Jesus propôs-lhes outra parábola: O Reino dos céus é semelhante a um homem que tinha semeado boa semente em seu campo.
25 "but while men were asleep his enemy came and sowed tares among his wheat and went away.
25 Na hora, porém, em que os homens repousavam, veio o seu inimigo, semeou joio no meio do trigo e partiu.
26 "And when the blade shot up and formed the wheat-kernel, then the tares also appeared.
26 O trigo cresceu e deu fruto, mas apareceu também o joio.
27 "The slaves of the owner went to him and said. "Was it not good seed, sir, that you sowed in your field? From whence then, do you get tares?
27 Os servidores do pai de família vieram e disseram-lhe: - Senhor, não semeaste bom trigo em teu campo? Donde vem, pois, o joio?
28 "It is an enemy who has done this, he answered. "The slaves said to him, Do you want us to go and collect them?
28 Disse-lhes ele: - Foi um inimigo que fez isto! Replicaram-lhe: - Queres que vamos e o arranquemos?
29 "No, he answered, for fear lest while you are collecting the tares, you at the same time pull up the wheat.
29 - Não, disse ele; arrancando o joio, arriscais a tirar também o trigo.
30 "Let both grow together until harvest, and at harvest-time I will tell the reapers to first gather the tares and tie them in bundles for burning, but to bring all the wheat into my store-house."
30 Deixai-os crescer juntos até a colheita. No tempo da colheita, direi aos ceifadores: arrancai primeiro o joio e atai-o em feixes para o queimar. Recolhei depois o trigo no meu celeiro.
31 He set forth to them another parable, saying. "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard-seed which a man took and planted in his field.
31 Em seguida, propôs-lhes outra parábola: O Reino dos céus é comparado a um grão de mostarda que um homem toma e semeia em seu campo.
32 "This is indeed the smallest of seeds, but when it is grown it is greater than any herb, and becomes a tree, so that the winged things of the sky come and roost in its branches."
32 É esta a menor de todas as sementes, mas, quando cresce, torna-se um arbusto maior que todas as hortaliças, de sorte que os pássaros vêm aninhar-se em seus ramos.
33 He told them another parable. He said, "The kingdom of heaven is like leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, until the whole was leavened."
33 Disse-lhes, por fim, esta outra parábola. O Reino dos céus é comparado ao fermento que uma mulher toma e mistura em três medidas de farinha e que faz fermentar toda a massa.
34 Jesus told all this to the crowd in parables; indeed he never spoke to them except in parables,
34 Tudo isto disse Jesus à multidão em forma de parábola. De outro modo não lhe falava,
35 in fulfilment of the word spoken by the prophet, I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things kept secret since the foundation of the world."
35 para que se cumprisse a profecia: Abrirei a boca para ensinar em parábolas; revelarei coisas ocultas desde a criação {Sl 77,2}.
36 After he had sent the people away and gone into the house, his disciples came to him and said, "Explain to us the parable about the weeds in the field."
36 Então despediu a multidão. Em seguida, entrou de novo na casa e seus discípulos agruparam-se ao redor dele para perguntar-lhe: Explica-nos a parábola do joio no campo.
37 "The sower of the seed," he answered, "is the Son of man;
37 Jesus respondeu: O que semeia a boa semente é o Filho do Homem.
38 "the field is the world; the good seed is the sons of the kingdom; the weeds, the sons of the Evil One.
38 O campo é o mundo. A boa semente são os filhos do Reino. O joio são os filhos do Maligno.
39 "The enemy who sows the weeds is the Devil. The harvest is the end of the age. The reapers are the angels.
39 O inimigo, que o semeia, é o demônio. A colheita é o fim do mundo. Os ceifadores são os anjos.
40 "Just as the weeds are collected together and burnt with fire, so will it be at the end of the age.
40 E assim como se recolhe o joio para jogá-lo no fogo, assim será no fim do mundo.
41 "The son of man will send forth his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all hindrances, and whoever practises iniquity,
41 O Filho do Homem enviará seus anjos, que retirarão de seu Reino todos os escândalos e todos os que fazem o mal
42 "and will throw them into the fiery furnace. There will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
42 e os lançarão na fornalha ardente, onde haverá choro e ranger de dentes.
43 "And then shall the just shine forth like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Let him who has ears to hear, listen!
43 Então, no Reino de seu Pai, os justos resplandecerão como o sol. Aquele que tem ouvidos, ouça.
44 "The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in the ground, which a man finds but buries again, and then in his joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that land.
44 O Reino dos céus é também semelhante a um tesouro escondido num campo. Um homem o encontra, mas o esconde de novo. E, cheio de alegria, vai, vende tudo o que tem para comprar aquele campo.
45 "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of beautiful pearls.
45 O Reino dos céus é ainda semelhante a um negociante que procura pérolas preciosas.
46 "When he finds one of great price, he goes and sells everything he has and buys it.
46 Encontrando uma de grande valor, vai, vende tudo o que possui e a compra.
47 "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was cast into the sea and gathered fish of every kind.
47 O Reino dos céus é semelhante ainda a uma rede que, jogada ao mar, recolhe peixes de toda espécie.
48 "When it was full they hauled it upon the beach, and sat down and sorted the good fish into baskets, but threw the worthless fish away.
48 Quando está repleta, os pescadores puxam-na para a praia, sentam-se e separam nos cestos o que é bom e jogam fora o que não presta.
49 "So will it be at the end of the age. The angels will go forth and separate the wicked from the righteous, and fling them into the furnace of fire.
49 Assim será no fim do mundo: os anjos virão separar os maus do meio dos justos
50 "There shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
50 e os arrojarão na fornalha, onde haverá choro e ranger de dentes.
51 "Have you understood all this?" he asked. "We have," they answered him.
51 Compreendestes tudo isto? Sim, Senhor, responderam eles.
52 "Then," said he, "every scribe who has been instructed in the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his storehouse new things and old."
52 Por isso, todo escriba instruído nas coisas do Reino dos céus é comparado a um pai de família que tira de seu tesouro coisas novas e velhas.
53 After Jesus had finished these parables, he withdrew from that place,
53 Após ter exposto as parábolas, Jesus partiu.
54 and came into his own country, where he continued teaching the people in their synagogues, until they were amazed. "Where did he get such wisdom?" they said, "and such wondrous powers?
54 Foi para a sua cidade e ensinava na sinagoga, de modo que todos diziam admirados: Donde lhe vem esta sabedoria e esta força miraculosa?
55 "Is not this the carpenters son? Is not his mother called Mary? and his brothers Jamesand Joseph and Simon and Judas?
55 Não é este o filho do carpinteiro? Não é Maria sua mãe? Não são seus irmãos Tiago, José, Simão e Judas?
56 "Are not his sisters all living among us? Where, then, did he get all these powers?"
56 E suas irmãs, não vivem todas entre nós? Donde lhe vem, pois, tudo isso?
57 This kept them from believing in him. Wherefore Jesus said, "A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and among his own family."
57 E não sabiam o que dizer dele. Disse-lhes, porém, Jesus: É só em sua pátria e em sua família que um profeta é menosprezado.
58 And he did no mighty works there, because of their lack of faith.
58 E, por causa da falta de confiança deles, operou ali poucos milagres.
