1 And so, when I could no longer bear it, I made up my mind to be left behind at Athens, all alone.
1 Pelo que, não podendo mais suportar o cuidado por vós, achamos por bem ficar sozinhos em Atenas,
2 I sent Timothy, my brother and Gods fellow worker in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen you and to hearten you in your faith.
2 e enviamos Timóteo, nosso irmão, e ministro de Deus no evangelho de Cristo, para vos fortalecer e vos exortar acerca da vossa fé;
3 So that no one should be shaken by these troubles-for you know well that we are appointed to troubles.
3 para que ninguém seja abalado por estas tribulações; porque vós mesmo sabeis que para isto fomos destinados;
4 For even when I was with you I used to tell you beforehand that I was to suffer affliction; and so it proved, as you know.
4 pois, quando estávamos ainda convosco, de antemão vos declarávamos que havíamos de padecer tribulações, como sucedeu, e vós o sabeis.
5 So, when I could no longer endure it, I sent to find out about your faith, fearing that the tempter had tempted you and that my labor had been in vain.
5 Por isso também, não podendo eu esperar mais, mandei saber da vossa fé, receando que o tentador vos tivesse tentado, e o nosso trabalho se houvesse tornado inútil.
6 But now that Timothy has returned from you to me, and has brought good news of your faith and love, and that you are still holding me in affectionate remembrance, always longing to see me as I also am longing to see you.
6 Mas agora que Timóteo acaba de regressar do vosso meio, trazendo-nos boas notícias da vossa fé e do vosso amor, dizendo que sempre nos tendes em afetuosa lembrança, anelando ver-nos assim como nós também a vós;
7 I have been comforted, my brothers, in regard to you, in spite of all my distress and affliction over your faith.
7 por isso, irmãos, em toda a nossa necessidade e tribulação, ficamos consolados acerca de vós, pela vossa fé,
8 For now I am really living, if you are standing firm in the Lord.
8 porque agora vivemos, se estais firmes no Senhor.
9 For what thanksgiving can I render again to God in your behalf, in return for all the joy which you cause me in the presence of my God?
9 Pois, que ação de graças podemos render a Deus por vós, por todo o gozo com que nos regozijamos por vossa causa diante do nosso Deus,
10 Night and day I am praying earnestly that I may see you face to face, and may perfect whatever is yet lacking in your faith.
10 rogando incessantemente, de noite e de dia, para que possamos ver o vosso rosto e suprir o que falta à vossa fé?
11 Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct my path to you.
11 Ora, o próprio Deus e Pai nosso e o nosso Senhor Jesus nos abram o caminho até vós,
12 Meanwhile, may the Lord cause you to increase and abound in love toward one another and toward all men, even as I do toward you.
12 e o Senhor vos faça crescer e abundar em amor uns para com os outros e para com todos, como também nós abundamos para convosco;
13 And so may he establish your hearts unblamable in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus, with all his saints.
13 para vos confirmar os corações, de sorte que sejam irrepreensíveis em santidade diante de nosso Deus e Pai, na vinda de nosso Senhor Jesus com todos os seus santos.
