1 Being come down from the mountain, followed by a great multitude,
1 Jesus desceu do monte, e muitas multidões o seguiram.
2 a leper came, who, presenting himself before him, said, Sir, if you will, you can cleanse me.
2 Então um leproso chegou perto dele, ajoelhou-se e disse: — Senhor, eu sei que o senhor pode me curar se quiser.
3 Jesus stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be you clean. Immediately he was cured of his leprosy.
3 Jesus estendeu a mão, tocou nele e disse: No mesmo instante ele ficou curado da lepra.
4 Then Jesus said to him, See you tell no person; but go, show yourself to the priest, and make the oblation prescribed by Moses, for notifying the cure to the people.
4 Então Jesus lhe disse:
5 Having entered Capernaum, a centurion accosted him with this request,
5 Quando Jesus entrou na cidade de Cafarnaum, um oficial romano foi encontrar-se com ele e pediu que curasse o seu empregado.
6 Sir, my man-servant lies sick at home, exceedingly afflicted with a palsy.
6 Ele disse: — Senhor, o meu empregado está na minha casa, tão doente, que não pode nem se mexer na cama. Ele está sofrendo demais.
7 Jesus answered, I will go and cure him.
7 — Eu vou lá curá-lo! — disse Jesus.
8 The centurion replying, said, Sir, I am not worthy, that you should come under my roof; only say the word, and my servant will be healed.
8 O oficial romano respondeu: — Não, senhor! Eu não mereço que o senhor entre na minha casa. Dê somente uma ordem, e o meu empregado ficará bom.
9 For even I, who am under command myself, having soldiers under me, say to one, Go, and he goes; to another, Come, and he comes; and to my servant, Do this, and he does it.
9 Eu também estou debaixo da autoridade de oficiais superiores e tenho soldados que obedecem às minhas ordens. Digo para um: “Vá lá”, e ele vai. Digo para outro: “Venha cá”, e ele vem. E digo também para o meu empregado: “Faça isto”, e ele faz.
10 Jesus hearing this, was astonished, and said to those who followed, Indeed, I say to you, not even in Israel have I found so great faith.
10 Quando Jesus ouviu isso, ficou muito admirado e disse aos que o seguiam:
11 But I assure you, that many will come from the east and from the west, and will be placed at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven,
11 E digo a vocês que muita gente vai chegar do Leste e do Oeste e se sentar à mesa no
12 while the sons of the kingdom shall be thrust out into outer darkness, where will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
12 Mas as pessoas que deviam estar no Reino serão jogadas fora, na escuridão. Ali vão chorar e ranger os dentes de desespero.
13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, Go home; be it to you, according to your faith. That instant his servant was cured.
13 E Jesus disse ao oficial: E naquele momento o empregado do oficial romano ficou curado.
14 Then Jesus having entered Peter's house, saw his wife's mother lying sick of a fever,
14 Jesus foi à casa de Pedro e viu a sogra dele de cama, com febre.
15 and having touched her hand, the fever left her; on which she arose and entertained him.
15 Jesus tocou na mão dela, e a febre saiu dela. Então ela se levantou e começou a cuidar dele.
16 In the evening they presented to him many demoniacs; and he expelled the spirits with a word, and cured all the sick;
16 Depois do pôr do sol, o povo levou até Jesus muitas pessoas que estavam dominadas por demônios. E ele, apenas com uma palavra, expulsava os espíritos maus e curava todas as pessoas que estavam doentes.
17 «thus verifying the saying of the Prophet Isaiah,» 'He has himself carried off our infirmities, and borne our distresses.'
17 Jesus fez isso para cumprir o que o profeta Isaías tinha dito: “Ele levou as nossas doenças e carregou as nossas enfermidades.”
18 Jesus seeing himself crowded on all sides, gave orders to pass to the opposite shore.
18 Jesus viu a multidão em volta dele e mandou os discípulos irem para o lado leste do lago.
19 Meantime, a scribe accosted him, saying, Rabbi, I will follow you whithersoever you go.
19 Um mestre da Lei chegou perto dele e disse: — Mestre, estou pronto a seguir o senhor para qualquer lugar aonde o senhor for!
20 Jesus answered, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have places of shelter, but the Son of Man has not where to repose his head.
20 Jesus respondeu:
21 Another, one of his disciples, said to him, Master, permit me to go first, and bury my father.
21 E outro, que era seguidor de Jesus, disse: — Senhor, primeiro deixe que eu volte e sepulte o meu pai.
22 Jesus answered, Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead.
22 Jesus respondeu:
23 Then entering the bark, his disciples followed him.
23 Jesus subiu num barco, e os seus discípulos foram com ele.
24 Soon after there arose in the sea so great a tempest, that the bark was covered with billows. But he being asleep,
24 De repente, uma grande tempestade agitou o lago, de tal maneira que as ondas começaram a cobrir o barco. E Jesus estava dormindo.
25 the disciples came and waked him, saying, Save us, Master, we perish.
25 Os discípulos chegaram perto dele e o acordaram, dizendo: — Socorro, Senhor! Nós vamos morrer!
26 He answered, Why are you so timorous, O you distrustful? Then he arose, and having commanded the winds and the sea, a great calm ensued;
26 — Por que é que vocês são assim tão medrosos? — respondeu Jesus. — Como é pequena a fé que vocês têm! Ele se levantou, falou duro com o vento e com as ondas, e tudo ficou calmo.
27 insomuch that every one exclaimed with admiration, What personage is this, whom even the winds and the sea obey.
27 Então todos ficaram admirados e disseram: — Que homem é este que manda até no vento e nas ondas?!
28 When he was come to the other side, into the country of the Gadarenes, there met him two demoniacs, issuing out of the monuments, so furious, that no person durst pass that way.
28 Quando Jesus chegou à região de Gadara, no lado leste do lago da Galileia, foram se encontrar com ele dois homens que estavam dominados por demônios. Eles vinham do cemitério, onde estavam morando. Eram tão violentos e perigosos, que ninguém se arriscava a passar por aquele caminho.
29 These instantly cried, saying, What hast thou to do with us, Son of God? Art thou come hither to torment us before the time?
29 Eles começaram a gritar: — Filho de Deus, o que o senhor quer de nós? O senhor veio aqui para nos castigar antes do tempo?
30 Now there was feeding, at some distance, a great herd of swine.
30 Acontece que perto dali estavam muitos porcos comendo.
31 And the friends besought him, saying, If thou expel us, permit us to go into the herd of swine.
31 E os demônios pediram a Jesus com insistência: — Se o senhor vai nos expulsar, nos mande entrar naqueles porcos!
32 He answered, Go. And when they were cast out, they went into the swine; on which the whole herd rushed down a precipice into the sea, and perished in the waters.
32 — Pois vão! — disse Jesus. Os demônios foram e entraram nos porcos, e estes se atiraram morro abaixo, para dentro do lago, e se afogaram.
33 Then the herdsmen fled into the city, and reported everything, and what had happened to the demoniacs.
33 Os homens que tomavam conta dos porcos fugiram e chegaram até a cidade. Lá contaram tudo isso e também o que havia acontecido com os dois homens que estavam dominados por demônios.
34 Presently the whole city went out to meet Jesus, and having seen him, entreated him to depart out of their territory.
34 Então todos os moradores daquela cidade saíram para se encontrar com Jesus; e, quando o encontraram, pediram com insistência que fosse embora da terra deles.
