1 Besides, I determined this with myself, not to come again to you with sorrow.
1 Mas deliberei isto comigo mesmo: não ir mais ter convosco em tristeza.
2 For if I should make you sorry, who then is he that could make me glad, unless the same who is made sorry by me?
2 Porque, se eu vos entristeço, quem é que me alegrará, senão aquele que por mim foi contristado?
3 Wherefore, I wrote to you this very thing, that, coming, I might not have sorrow from them in whom I ought to rejoice; being firmly persuaded concerning you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.
3 E escrevi-vos isto mesmo, para que, quando lá for, não tenha tristeza da parte dos que deveriam alegrar-me; confiando em vós todos, que a minha alegria é a de todos vós.
4 For out of much affliction and distress of heart, I wrote to you with many tears; not that you might be made sorry, but that you might know the love which I have most abundantly toward you.
4 Porque em muita tribulação e angústia do coração vos escrevi, com muitas lágrimas, não para que vos entristecêsseis, mas para que conhecêsseis o amor que abundantemente vos tenho.
5 Now, if a certain person has grieved me, he has not grieved me except by a part of you, that I may not lay a load on you all.
5 Porque, se alguém me contristou, não me contristou a mim senão em parte, para vos não sobrecarregar a vós todos.
6 Sufficient for such a one is the punishment, which was inflicted by the majority.
6 Basta-lhe ao tal esta repreensão feita por muitos.
7 So that, on the other hand, you ought more willingly to forgive and comfort him, lest such a one should be swallowed up by excessive grief.
7 De maneira que pelo contrário deveis antes perdoar-lhe e consolá-lo, para que o tal não seja de modo algum devorado de demasiada tristeza.
8 Wherefore, I beseech you to confirm your love to him.
8 Por isso vos rogo que confirmeis para com ele o vosso amor.
9 For to this end, also, I wrote, that I might know the proof of you, whether you be obedient in all things.
9 E para isso vos escrevi também, para por esta prova saber se sois obedientes em tudo.
10 Now, to whom you forgive anything, I also forgive: and even I, if I have now forgiven anything, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes I forgave it, in the person of Christ:
10 E a quem perdoardes alguma coisa, também eu; porque, o que eu também perdoei, se é que tenho perdoado, por amor de vós o fiz na presença de Cristo; para que não sejamos vencidos por Satanás;
11 that we may not be overreached by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his devices.
11 Porque não ignoramos os seus ardís.
12 Moreover, when I came to Troas, in order to declare the gospel of Christ, and a door was opened to me by the Lord;
12 Ora, quando cheguei a Trôade para pregar o evangelho de Cristo, e abrindo-se-me uma porta no Senhor,
13 I had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus, my brother: therefore, bidding them farewell, I went away into Macedonia.
13 Não tive descanso no meu espírito, porque não achei ali meu irmão Tito; mas, despedindo-me deles, parti para a macedônia.
14 Now, thanks be to God, who at all times causes us to triumph in Christ; and who, by us, diffuses the odor of the knowledge of him in every place:
14 E graças a Deus, que sempre nos faz triunfar em Cristo, e por meio de nós manifesta em todo o lugar a fragrância do seu conhecimento.
15 for we are, through God, a fragrant odor of Christ, among the saved and among the destroyed.
15 Porque para Deus somos o bom perfume de Cristo, nos que se salvam e nos que se perdem.
16 To these, indeed, we are the odor of death, ending in death; but to the others, the odor of life, ending in life: and who is competent to these things?
16 Para estes certamente cheiro de morte para morte; mas para aqueles cheiro de vida para vida. E para estas coisas quem é idôneo?
17 However, we are not like many who adulterate the word of God: but really from sincerity, yes, really from God, in the sight of God, we speak in Christ.
17 Porque nós não somos, como muitos, falsificadores da palavra de Deus, antes falamos de Cristo com sinceridade, como de Deus na presença de Deus.
