1 Thus hath said the Lord, Behold, I will awaken against Babylon, and against those that dwell in the midst of my opponents, a destroying wind;
1 Assim diz o Senhor : Eis que levantarei um vento destruidor contra a Babilônia e contra os que habitam em Lebe-Camai.
2 And I will send out unto Babylon fanners, and they shall fan her, and shall empty out her land; for they shall be against her round about on the day of trouble.
2 Enviarei padejadores contra a Babilônia, que a padejarão e despojarão a sua terra; porque virão contra ela em redor no dia da calamidade.
3 Let the archer come against any one that bendeth his bow, and against him that lifteth himself up in his armor: and spare ye not her young men: destroy ye utterly all her host.
3 O flecheiro arme o seu arco contra o que o faz com o seu e contra o que presume da sua couraça; não poupeis os seus jovens, destruí de todo o seu exército.
4 And the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans, and they that are pierced through, in her streets.
4 Caiam mortos na terra dos caldeus e atravessados pelas ruas!
5 For not widowed are Israel and Judah of their God, of the Lord of hosts; for the land of those was filled with guiltiness against the Holy One of Israel.
5 Porque Israel e Judá não enviuvaram do seu Deus, do Senhor dos Exércitos; mas a terra dos caldeus está cheia de culpas perante o Santo de Israel.
6 Flee ye out of the midst of Babylon, and save ye every man his life: perish not for her iniquity; for this is a time of vengeance unto the Lord; a recompense is he paying out unto her.
6 Fugi do meio da Babilônia, e cada um salve a sua vida; não pereçais na sua maldade; porque é tempo da vingança do Senhor : ele lhe dará a sua paga.
7 A golden cup hath Babylon been in the hand of the Lord, that made drunken all the earth: of her wine have nations drunk; therefore are the nations rendered mad.
7 A Babilônia era um copo de ouro na mão do Senhor , o qual embriagava a toda a terra; do seu vinho beberam as nações; por isso, enlouqueceram.
8 Suddenly is Babylon fallen and broken: wail ye for her; fetch balm for her wound, perhaps she may be healed.
8 Repentinamente, caiu Babilônia e ficou arruinada; lamentai por ela, tomai bálsamo para a sua ferida; porventura, sarará.
9 "We would have healed Babylon, but she was not healed: forsake her, and let us go every one unto his own country; for her punishment reacheth unto the heavens, and it is lifted up even to the skies."
9 Queríamos curar Babilônia, ela, porém, não sarou; deixai-a, e cada um vá para a sua terra; porque o seu juízo chega até ao céu e se eleva até às mais altas nuvens.
10 The Lord hath brought forth our righteousness: come, and let us relate in Zion the work of the Lord our God.
10 O Senhor trouxe a nossa justiça à luz; vinde, e anunciemos em Sião a obra do Senhor , nosso Deus.
11 Make bright the arrows; fill the quivers: the Lord hath awakened the spirit of the kings of Media; for against Babylon is his intention, to destroy it; because it is the vengeance of the Lord, the vengeance for his temple.
11 Aguçai as flechas! Preparai os escudos! O Senhor despertou o espírito dos reis dos medos; porque o seu intento contra a Babilônia é para a destruir; pois esta é a vingança do Senhor , a vingança do seu templo.
12 Against the walls of Babylon lift up the standard, strengthen the watch, set up the watchmen, make ready the ambushes; for the Lord hath both intended and done what he had spoken against the inhabitants of Babylon.
12 Arvorai estandarte contra os muros de Babilônia, reforçai a guarda, colocai sentinelas, preparai emboscadas; porque o Senhor intentou e fez o que tinha dito acerca dos moradores da Babilônia.
13 O thou that dwellest upon many waters, great in treasures, thy end is come, the full measure of thy selfish robbery.
13 Ó tu que habitas sobre muitas águas, rica de tesouros! Chegou o teu fim, a medida da tua avareza.
14 Sworn hath the Lord of hosts by himself, Surely I will fill thee with men, as with locusts: and they shall lift up the battlecry against thee.
14 Jurou o Senhor dos Exércitos por si mesmo, dizendo: Encher-te-ei certamente de homens, como de gafanhotos, e eles cantarão sobre ti o eia! dos que pisam as uvas.
15 He made the earth by his power, he established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding he stretched out the heavens.
15 Ele fez a terra pelo seu poder; estabeleceu o mundo por sua sabedoria e com a sua inteligência estendeu os céus.
16 At the sound when he giveth a multitude of waters in the heavens, and causeth clouds to ascend from the ends of the earth; when he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures:
16 Fazendo ele ribombar o trovão, logo há tumulto de águas no céu, e sobem os vapores das extremidades da terra; ele cria os relâmpagos para a chuva e dos seus depósitos faz sair o vento.
17 Then standeth every man as brutish without knowledge; ashamed is every goldsmith because of the graven image; for falsehood is his molten work, and there is no breath therein.
17 Todo homem se tornou estúpido e não tem saber; todo ourives é envergonhado pela imagem que esculpiu; pois as suas imagens são mentira, e nelas não há fôlego.
18 They are vanity, the work of deception: in the time of their punishment shall they vanish.
18 Vaidade são, obra ridícula; no tempo do seu castigo, virão a perecer.
19 Not like these is the portion of Jacob; for He is the former of all things, and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance: The Lord of hosts is his name.
19 Não é semelhante a estas aquele que é a Porção de Jacó; porque ele é o criador de todas as coisas, e Israel é a tribo da sua herança; Senhor dos Exércitos é o seu nome.
20 Thou art a hammer unto me, weapons of war; and I strike down with thee nations, and I destroy with thee kingdoms;
20 Tu, Babilônia, eras meu martelo e minhas armas de guerra; por meio de ti, despedacei nações e destruí reis;
21 And I strike down with thee the horse and his rider; and I strike down with thee the chariot and its rider;
21 por meio de ti, despedacei o cavalo e o seu cavaleiro; despedacei o carro e o seu cocheiro;
22 And I strike down with thee man and woman; and I strike down with thee the aged and the lad; and I strike down with thee the young man and the virgin:
22 por meio de ti, despedacei o homem e a mulher, despedacei o velho e o moço, despedacei o jovem e a virgem;
23 And I strike down with thee the shepherd and his flock; and I strike down with thee the husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and I strike down with thee governors and rulers.
23 por meio de ti, despedacei o pastor e o seu rebanho, despedacei o lavrador e a sua junta de bois, despedacei governadores e vice-reis.
24 But now will I repay unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion before your eyes, saith the Lord.
24 Pagarei, ante os vossos próprios olhos, à Babilônia e a todos os moradores da Caldeia toda a maldade que fizeram em Sião, diz o Senhor .
25 Behold, I am against thee, O destroying mountain, saith the Lord, which destroyest all the earth; and I will stretch out my hand over thee, and I will roll thee down from the rocks, and will render thee a burnt mountain.
25 Eis que sou contra ti, ó monte que destróis, diz o Senhor , que destróis toda a terra; estenderei a mão contra ti, e te revolverei das rochas, e farei de ti um monte em chamas.
26 And they shall not take from thee a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but everlasting ruins shalt thou be, saith the Lord.
26 De ti não se tirarão pedras, nem para o ângulo nem para fundamentos, porque te tornarás em desolação perpétua, diz o Senhor .
27 Lift ye up a standard in the land, blow ye the cornet among the nations, make ready against her nations, call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz; appoint against her a commander; cause the horses to come up like the hairy locusts.
27 Arvorai estandarte na terra, tocai trombeta entre as nações, consagrai as nações contra ela, convocai contra ela os reinos de Ararate, Mini e Asquenaz; ordenai contra ela chefes, fazei subir cavalos como gafanhotos eriçados.
28 Make ready against her the nations with the kings of Media, its governors, and all its rulers, and all the land of their dominion.
28 Consagrai contra ela as nações, os reis dos medos, os seus governadores, todos os seus vice-reis e toda a terra do seu domínio.
29 And the earth quaketh and trembleth; for every one of the purposes of the Lord is fulfilled against Babylon, to change the land of Babylon into a desolate country without an inhabitant.
29 Estremece a terra e se contorce em dores, porque cada um dos desígnios do Senhor está firme contra Babilônia, para fazer da terra da Babilônia uma desolação, sem que haja quem nela habite.
30 The mighty men of Babylon have ceased to fight, they sit still in their strongholds; their might is vanished; they are become as women: they have burnt her dwellingplaces; her bars are broken.
30 Os valentes da Babilônia cessaram de pelejar, permanecem nas fortalezas, desfaleceu-lhes a força, tornaram-se como mulheres; estão em chamas as suas moradas, quebrados, os seus ferrolhos.
31 One runner shall run to meet another runner, and one messenger to meet another messenger, to tell unto the king of Babylon that his city is captured at all ends,
31 Sai um correio ao encontro de outro correio, um mensageiro ao encontro de outro mensageiro, para anunciar ao rei da Babilônia que a sua cidade foi tomada de todos os lados;
32 And that the passages have been seized, and that they have burnt the reeds with fire, and that the men of war are affrighted.
32 que os vaus estão ocupados, e as defesas, queimadas, e os homens de guerra, amedrontados.
33 For thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, the daughter of Babylon is like a threshingfloor, at the time they thresh therein; but yet a little while more, when the time of harvest shall come for her.
33 Porque assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel: A filha da Babilônia é como a eira quando é aplanada e pisada; ainda um pouco, e o tempo da ceifa lhe virá.
34 "Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon devoured me, he crushed me, he set me down as an empty vessel, he swallowed me up like a huge serpent, he filled his belly with my delicacies: he drove me out.
34 Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, nos devorou, esmagou-nos e fez de nós um objeto inútil; como monstro marinho, nos tragou, encheu a sua barriga das nossas comidas finas e nos arrojou fora.
35 the violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon," will the inhabitress of Zion say; and "My blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea," will Jerusalem say.
35 A violência que se me fez a mim e à minha carne caia sobre a Babilônia, diga a moradora de Sião; o meu sangue caia sobre os moradores da Caldeia, diga Jerusalém.
36 Therefore thus hath said the Lord, Behold, I will contend in thy cause, and execute vengeance for thee; and I will dry up her sea, and cause her springs to fail.
36 Pelo que assim diz o Senhor : Eis que pleitearei a tua causa e te vingarei da vingança que se tomou contra ti; secarei o seu mar e farei que se esgote o seu manancial.
37 And Babylon shall become ruinous heaps, a dwellingplace for monsters, an astonishment, and a derision, without an inhabitant.
37 Babilônia se tornará em montões de ruínas, morada de chacais, objeto de espanto e assobio, e não haverá quem nela habite.
38 Together like lions shall they roar: they shall yell like the lions whelps.
38 Ainda que juntos rujam como leões e rosnem como cachorros de leões,
39 When they are heated will I prepare their drinkingfeasts, and I will make them drunken, in order that they may be joyful, and then sleep a perpetual sleep, and not awake again, saith the Lord.
39 estando eles esganados, preparar-lhes-ei um banquete, embriagá-los-ei para que se regozijem e durmam sono eterno e não acordem, diz o Senhor .
40 I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like wethers with hegoats.
40 Fá-los-ei descer como cordeiros ao matadouro, como carneiros e bodes.
41 How is Sheshach captured! and how is conquered the praise of the whole earth! how is Babylon become an astonishment among the nations!
41 Como foi tomada Babilônia, e apanhada de surpresa, a glória de toda a terra! Como se tornou Babilônia objeto de espanto entre as nações!
42 The sea is come up over Babylon: with the multitude of its waves is she covered.
42 O mar é vindo sobre Babilônia, coberta está com o tumulto das suas ondas.
43 Her cities are become desolate places, a dry land, and a wilderness, a land wherein not any man shall dwell, and through which no son of man shall pass along.
43 Tornaram-se as suas cidades em desolação, terra seca e deserta, terra em que ninguém habita, nem passa por ela homem algum.
44 And I will inflict punishment on Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth what he hath swallowed up out of his mouth; and nations shall not assemble together like a stream unto him any more; yea, the wall of Babylon also is fallen.
44 Castigarei a Bel na Babilônia e farei que lance de sua boca o que havia tragado, e nunca mais concorrerão a ele as nações; também o muro de Babilônia caiu.
45 Go ye out of the midst of her, my people, and save ye every man his life from the fierceness of the anger of the Lord.
45 Saí do meio dela, ó povo meu, e salve cada um a sua vida do brasume da ira do Senhor .
46 And so that your heart may not faint, and ye fear at the report that is heard in the land: when the report cometh in one year, and after that in another year cometh another report, and when violence be done in the land, by ruler against ruler.
46 Não desfaleça o vosso coração, não temais o rumor que se há de ouvir na terra; pois virá num ano um rumor, noutro ano, outro rumor; haverá violência na terra, dominador contra dominador.
47 Therefore, behold, days are coming, when I will inflict punishment on the graven images of Babylon, and her whole land shall be put to shame, and all her slain shall fail in the midst of her.
47 Portanto, eis que vêm dias, em que castigarei as imagens de escultura da Babilônia, toda a sua terra será envergonhada, e todos os seus cairão traspassados no meio dela.
48 And then shall the heaven and the earth, and all that is therein, sing because of Babylon; for from the north shall come unto her the destroyers, saith the Lord.
48 Os céus, e a terra, e tudo quanto neles há jubilarão sobre Babilônia; porque do Norte lhe virão os destruidores, diz o Senhor .
49 Also Babylon is destined to fall, O ye slain ones of Israel, also at Babylon fall the slain of all the land.
49 Como Babilônia fez cair traspassados os de Israel, assim, em Babilônia, cairão traspassados os de toda a terra.
50 But ye that have escaped the sword, go away, stand not still: remember afar off the Lord, and let Jerusalem rise up in your heart.
50 Vós que escapastes da espada, ide-vos, não pareis; de longe lembrai-vos do Senhor , e suba Jerusalém à vossa mente.
51 "We had been made ashamed, because we had heard reproach: confusion had covered our faces; because strangers were come into the sanctuaries of the Lords house."
51 Direis: Envergonhados estamos, porque ouvimos opróbrio; vergonha cobriu-nos o rosto, porque vieram estrangeiros e entraram nos santuários da Casa do Senhor .
52 Therefore, behold, days are coming, saith the Lord, when I will inflict punishment on her graven images: and through all her land shall groan the deadly wounded.
52 Portanto, eis que vêm dias, diz o Senhor , em que castigarei as suas imagens de escultura; e gemerão os traspassados em toda a sua terra.
53 Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength; yet from me should destroyers come unto her, saith the Lord.
53 Ainda que a Babilônia subisse aos céus e ainda que fortificasse no alto a sua fortaleza, de mim viriam destruidores contra ela, diz o Senhor .
54 A sound of a painful cry cometh from Babylon, and of a great breach from the land of the Chaldeans;
54 De Babilônia se ouvem gritos, e da terra dos caldeus, o ruído de grande destruição;
55 Because the Lord wasteth Babylon, and destroyeth out of her the loud noise; but their waves roar like great waters, the noise of their voice is sent forth;
55 porque o Senhor destrói Babilônia e faz perecer nela a sua grande voz; bramarão as ondas do inimigo como muitas águas, ouvir-se-á o tumulto da sua voz,
56 Because the destroyer is come over her, over Babylon, and her mighty men are caught, every one of their bows is broken; for the God of recompenses, the Lord, will surely requite.
56 porque o destruidor vem contra ela, contra Babilônia; os seus valentes estão presos, já estão quebrados os seus arcos; porque o Senhor , Deus que dá a paga, certamente, lhe retribuirá.
57 And I will make drunken her princes, and her wise men, her governors, and her rulers, and her mighty men: and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not awake again, saith the King, The Lord of hosts is his name.
57 Embriagarei os seus príncipes, os seus sábios, os seus governadores, os seus vice-reis e os seus valentes; dormirão sono eterno e não acordarão, diz o Rei, cujo nome é Senhor dos Exércitos.
58 Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, Every one of the broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly overthrown, and her high gates shall be burnt with fire; so that nations shall have labored in vain, and the people for the fire, and so shall they have wearied themselves.
58 Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: Os largos muros de Babilônia totalmente serão derribados, e as suas altas portas serão abrasadas pelo fogo; assim, trabalharam os povos em vão, e para o fogo se afadigaram as nações.
59 The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Serayah the son of Neriyah, the son of Machseyah, when he went with Zedekiah the king of Judah unto Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. And this Serayah was chief chamberlain.
59 Palavra que mandou Jeremias, o profeta, a Seraías, filho de Nerias, filho de Maaseias, indo este com Zedequias, rei de Judá, à Babilônia, no ano quarto do seu reinado. Seraías era o camareiro-mor.
60 And Jeremiah wrote down all the evil that should come upon Babylon in one book, namely, all these words that are written concerning Babylon.
60 Escreveu, pois, Jeremias num livro todo o mal que havia de vir sobre a Babilônia, a saber, todas as palavras já escritas contra a Babilônia.
61 And Jeremiah said to Serayah, As thou comest to Babylon, see to it, that thou read all these words;
61 Disse Jeremias a Seraías: Quando chegares a Babilônia, vê que leias em voz alta todas estas palavras.
62 And thou shalt say, O Lord, thou thyself hast spoken concerning this place, to cut it off, so that there shall not be in it an inhabitant, either man or beast; but that it shall become a desolate place for ever.
62 E dirás: Ó Senhor ! Falaste a respeito deste lugar que o exterminarias, a fim de que nada fique nele, nem homem nem animal, e que se tornaria em perpétuas assolações.
63 And it shall be, when thou hast finished reading this book, that thou shalt bind a stone to it, and throw it into the midst of the Euphrates;
63 Quando acabares de ler o livro, atá-lo-ás a uma pedra e o lançarás no meio do Eufrates;
64 And thou shalt say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise again from the evil that I will bring upon her: and her people shall be wearied. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.
64 e dirás: Assim será afundada a Babilônia e não se levantará, por causa do mal que eu hei de trazer sobre ela; e os seus moradores sucumbirão. Até aqui as palavras de Jeremias.
