1 And it happened again on a certain day, when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, that the Accuser also came in the midst of them to present himself before the Lord.
1 E, vindo outro dia, em que os filhos de Deus vieram apresentar-se perante o Senhor , veio também Satanás entre eles apresentar-se perante o Senhor .
2 Then said the Lord unto the Accuser, Whence comest thou now? And the Accuser answered the Lord, and said, From roaming over the earth, and from wandering through it.
2 Então, o Senhor disse a Satanás: De onde vens? E respondeu Satanás ao Senhor e disse: De rodear a terra e passear por ela.
3 Then said the Lord unto the Accuser, Hast thou directed thy attention toward my servant Job: for there is none like him on the earth, a man perfect and upright, who feareth God, and escheweth evil? and he is still holding fast to his integrity, and thou hast incited me against him, to destroy him without cause.
3 E disse o Senhor a Satanás: Observaste o meu servo Jó? Porque ninguém há na terra semelhante a ele, homem sincero e reto, temente a Deus, desviando-se do mal, e que ainda retém a sua sinceridade, havendo-me tu incitado contra ele, para o consumir sem causa.
4 Then answered the Accuser the Lord, and said, Skin for skin: yea, all that a man hath will he give in behalf of his life.
4 Então, Satanás respondeu ao Senhor e disse: Pele por pele, e tudo quanto o homem tem dará pela sua vida.
5 But stretch only forth thy hand, and touch his bone and his flesh, and see whether he will not renounce thee to thy face.
5 Estende, porém, a tua mão, e toca-lhe nos ossos e na carne, e verás se não blasfema de ti na tua face!
6 Then said the Lord unto the Accuser, Behold, he is in thy hand: only take care of his life.
6 E disse o Senhor a Satanás: Eis que ele está na tua mão; poupa, porém, a sua vida.
7 Thereupon went the Accuser forth from the presence of the Lord, and he smote Job with a sore inflammation, from the sole of his foot unto the crown of his head.
7 Então, saiu Satanás da presença do Senhor e feriu a Jó de uma chaga maligna, desde a planta do pé até ao alto da cabeça.
8 And Job took himself a potsherd to scrape himself there with, while he was sitting down among the ashes.
8 E Jó, tomando um pedaço de telha para raspar com ele as feridas, assentou-se no meio da cinza.
9 Then said his wife unto him, Art thou still holding fast to thy integrity? renounce God, and die.
9 Então, sua mulher lhe disse: Ainda reténs a tua sinceridade? Amaldiçoa a Deus e morre.
10 But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the worthless women would speak. What? should we accept the good alone, from God, and the evil we should not accept? With all this did Job not sin with his lips.
10 Mas ele lhe disse: Como fala qualquer doida, assim falas tu; receberemos o bem de Deus e não receberíamos o mal? Em tudo isto não pecou Jó com os seus lábios.
11 When now the three friends of Job had heard of all this evil that was come over him, they came every one from his own place, Eliphaz the Themanite, and Bildad the Shuchite, and Zophar the Naamthite; and they met together to come to condole with him and to comfort him.
11 Ouvindo, pois, três amigos de Jó todo este mal que tinha vindo sobre ele, vieram, cada um do seu lugar: Elifaz, o temanita, e Bildade, o suíta, e Zofar, o naamatita; e concertaram juntamente virem condoer-se dele e consolá-lo.
12 And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and they recognised him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they rent every one his robe, and strewed dust upon their heads toward heaven.
12 E, levantando de longe os olhos e não o conhecendo, levantaram a voz e choraram; e rasgando cada um o seu manto, sobre a cabeça lançaram pó ao ar.
13 They likewise sat down with him on the ground seven days and seven nights; but no one spoke a word unto him; for they saw that his pain was very great.
13 E se assentaram juntamente com ele na terra, sete dias e sete noites; e nenhum lhe dizia palavra alguma, porque viam que a dor era muito grande.
