1 And it happened again on a certain day, when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, that the Accuser also came in the midst of them to present himself before the Lord.
1 Num dia em que os filhos de Deus vieram apresentar-se perante o Senhor , veio também Satanás entre eles apresentar-se perante o Senhor .
2 Then said the Lord unto the Accuser, Whence comest thou now? And the Accuser answered the Lord, and said, From roaming over the earth, and from wandering through it.
2 Então, o Senhor disse a Satanás: Donde vens? Respondeu Satanás ao Senhor e disse: De rodear a terra e passear por ela.
3 Then said the Lord unto the Accuser, Hast thou directed thy attention toward my servant Job: for there is none like him on the earth, a man perfect and upright, who feareth God, and escheweth evil? and he is still holding fast to his integrity, and thou hast incited me against him, to destroy him without cause.
3 Perguntou o Senhor a Satanás: Observaste o meu servo Jó? Porque ninguém há na terra semelhante a ele, homem íntegro e reto, temente a Deus e que se desvia do mal. Ele conserva a sua integridade, embora me incitasses contra ele, para o consumir sem causa.
4 Then answered the Accuser the Lord, and said, Skin for skin: yea, all that a man hath will he give in behalf of his life.
4 Então, Satanás respondeu ao Senhor : Pele por pele, e tudo quanto o homem tem dará pela sua vida.
5 But stretch only forth thy hand, and touch his bone and his flesh, and see whether he will not renounce thee to thy face.
5 Estende, porém, a mão, toca-lhe nos ossos e na carne e verás se não blasfema contra ti na tua face.
6 Then said the Lord unto the Accuser, Behold, he is in thy hand: only take care of his life.
6 Disse o Senhor a Satanás: Eis que ele está em teu poder; mas poupa-lhe a vida.
7 Thereupon went the Accuser forth from the presence of the Lord, and he smote Job with a sore inflammation, from the sole of his foot unto the crown of his head.
7 Então, saiu Satanás da presença do Senhor e feriu a Jó de tumores malignos, desde a planta do pé até ao alto da cabeça.
8 And Job took himself a potsherd to scrape himself there with, while he was sitting down among the ashes.
8 Jó, sentado em cinza, tomou um caco para com ele raspar-se.
9 Then said his wife unto him, Art thou still holding fast to thy integrity? renounce God, and die.
9 Então, sua mulher lhe disse: Ainda conservas a tua integridade? Amaldiçoa a Deus e morre.
10 But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the worthless women would speak. What? should we accept the good alone, from God, and the evil we should not accept? With all this did Job not sin with his lips.
10 Mas ele lhe respondeu: Falas como qualquer doida; temos recebido o bem de Deus e não receberíamos também o mal? Em tudo isto não pecou Jó com os seus lábios.
11 When now the three friends of Job had heard of all this evil that was come over him, they came every one from his own place, Eliphaz the Themanite, and Bildad the Shuchite, and Zophar the Naamthite; and they met together to come to condole with him and to comfort him.
11 Ouvindo, pois, três amigos de Jó todo este mal que lhe sobreviera, chegaram, cada um do seu lugar: Elifaz, o temanita, Bildade, o suíta, e Zofar, o naamatita; e combinaram ir juntamente condoer-se dele e consolá-lo.
12 And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and they recognised him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they rent every one his robe, and strewed dust upon their heads toward heaven.
12 Levantando eles de longe os olhos e não o reconhecendo, ergueram a voz e choraram; e cada um, rasgando o seu manto, lançava pó ao ar sobre a cabeça.
13 They likewise sat down with him on the ground seven days and seven nights; but no one spoke a word unto him; for they saw that his pain was very great.
13 Sentaram-se com ele na terra, sete dias e sete noites; e nenhum lhe dizia palavra alguma, pois viam que a dor era muito grande.
