1 The prophecy which Habakkuk the prophet foresaw.
1 Esta é a mensagem que Deus, por meio de uma visão, deu a Habacuque.
2 How long, O Lord, have I entreated thee, and thou wouldst not hear? how long shall I cry out unto thee because of violence, and thou wilt not save?
2 Ó Senhor Deus, até quando clamarei pedindo ajuda, e tu não me atenderás? Até quando gritarei: “Violência!”, e tu não nos salvarás?
3 Why wilt thou let me see wickedness, and wilt look on trouble, and the robbery and violence that are before me: while there is strife, and contention lifteth up its head?
3 Por que me fazes ver tanta maldade? Por que toleras a injustiça? Estou cercado de destruição e violência; há brigas e lutas por toda parte.
4 Therefore is the law powerless, and justice cometh not forth victorious; for the wicked encompasseth about the righteous; therefore doth justice come forth perverted.
4 Por isso, ninguém obedece à lei , e a justiça nunca vence. Os maus levam vantagem sobre os bons, e a justiça é torcida.
5 Look ye about among the nations, and behold and be astonished and astounded; for God will fulfill a work in your days, ye would not believe it, if it were only told you.
5 O Senhor diz ao seu povo: “Olhem as nações em volta de vocês e fiquem admirados e assustados. Pois o que vou fazer agora é uma coisa em que vocês não acreditariam, mesmo que alguém contasse.
6 For, lo, I will raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and impetuous nation, that march to the wide spaces of the earth to conquer dwellingplaces that are not theirs.
6 Estou atiçando os babilônios, aquele povo cruel e violento, sempre pronto a marchar pelo mundo inteiro, a fim de conquistar as terras dos outros.
7 Terrible and dreadful are they: from themselves go forth their judicial laws and their dignity.
7 “Eles espalham o medo e o terror e fazem valer as suas próprias ordens e
8 And swifter than leopards are their horses, and fiercer than the evening wolves; and their horsemen spread themselves abroad: and their horsemen will come from afar; they will fly like the eagle hastening to eat.
8 Os seus cavalos são mais rápidos do que os leopardos, são mais ferozes do que os lobos do deserto. Os seus cavaleiros avançam montados; eles vêm correndo de longe, rápidos como a águia quando se joga sobre o animal que ela está caçando.
9 They all will come for violence: the front of their faces is like the east wind, and they gather captives as the sand.
9 Os soldados avançam, ansiosos para conquistar; conforme avançam, vão espalhando o terror. Os seus prisioneiros são muitos; são mais numerosos do que os grãos de areia da praia.
10 And they will make sport with kings, and princes will be a play unto them: at every stronghold will they laugh, and they will cast up earthmounds and capture it.
10 Os soldados babilônios zombam dos reis e caçoam dos governadores. Eles riem das fortalezas; levantam uma rampa de ataque e as conquistam.
11 Then doth their spirit become arrogant, and they are surpassingly proud, and offend, imputing this their power unto their god.
11 Depois, vão em frente, como o vento que passa; eles não adoram outro deus senão a sua própria força.”
12 Art thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God, my Holy One? we shall not die. O Lord, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O Protector, thou hast appointed them to correct nations.
12 Tu sempre exististe, ó Senhor . Ó meu Santo Deus, tu és Tu és o nosso protetor. Ó e lhes deste forças para nos castigar.
13 Thou, who art too pure of eyes to behold evil, and canst not look on trouble, wherefore wilt thou look upon those that deal treacherously, be silent when the wicked swalloweth up him that is more righteous than he?
13 Mas como podes tolerar esses traidores, essa gente má? Os teus olhos são puros demais para olhar o mal; tu não suportas ver as pessoas cometendo maldades. Como é, então, que ficas calado quando esses malvados matam pessoas que são melhores do que eles?
14 And why makest thou men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them?
14 Por que tratas os seres humanos como se fossem peixes, como se fossem animais que não têm chefe?
15 All of them he bringeth up with the angle, he draggeth them up in his net, and gathereth them in his drag: therefore he rejoiceth and is glad.
15 Pois os babilônios pegam outros povos como os pescadores pegam peixes. Com os seus anzóis e redes pegam os povos e os arrastam para terra. Aí se alegram e ficam contentes.
16 Therefore he sacrificeth unto his net, and burneth incense unto his drag; because through them is his portion fat, and his food marrowy.
16 Oferecem sacrifícios às redes e apresentam ofertas aos anzóis, pois é por causa deles que os pescadores ficam ricos e têm muito que comer.
17 Shall he therefore always empty his net, and continually slay nations without sparing?
17 Será que os babilônios nunca deixarão de lutar e, sem dó nem piedade, continuarão a matar os povos?
