1 The prophecy which Habakkuk the prophet foresaw.
1 O peso que Habacuque, o profeta, viu.
2 How long, O Lord, have I entreated thee, and thou wouldst not hear? how long shall I cry out unto thee because of violence, and thou wilt not save?
2 Ó SENHOR, até quando clamarei, e tu não me escutarás? Ainda que grite: Violência! Tu não salvarás?
3 Why wilt thou let me see wickedness, and wilt look on trouble, and the robbery and violence that are before me: while there is strife, and contention lifteth up its head?
3 Por que me mostras a iniquidade, e me fazes ver a injustiça? Pois a destruição e a violência estão diante de mim, e há quem suscite a contenda e o litígio.
4 Therefore is the law powerless, and justice cometh not forth victorious; for the wicked encompasseth about the righteous; therefore doth justice come forth perverted.
4 Por isso a lei é frouxa, e o julgamento nunca se manifesta; pois perverso se aproxima do justo e assim o julgamento prossegue errado.
5 Look ye about among the nations, and behold and be astonished and astounded; for God will fulfill a work in your days, ye would not believe it, if it were only told you.
5 Vede entre os pagãos, e observai; maravilhai-vos e admirai-vos; pois eu realizarei uma obra em vossos dias que não crereis, quando for contada a vós.
6 For, lo, I will raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and impetuous nation, that march to the wide spaces of the earth to conquer dwellingplaces that are not theirs.
6 Pois eis que levanto os caldeus, aquela nação amarga e impetuosa, que marcha através da largura da terra, para apoderar-se de moradas que não são suas.
7 Terrible and dreadful are they: from themselves go forth their judicial laws and their dignity.
7 Eles são horríveis e terríveis; o seu julgamento e sua dignidade sairão de si mesmos.
8 And swifter than leopards are their horses, and fiercer than the evening wolves; and their horsemen spread themselves abroad: and their horsemen will come from afar; they will fly like the eagle hastening to eat.
8 Os seus cavalos também são mais velozes do que os leopardos, e mais ferozes do que os lobos à noite; os seus cavaleiros espalham-se por toda a parte, e virão de longe; voarão como águias que se apressam para comer.
9 They all will come for violence: the front of their faces is like the east wind, and they gather captives as the sand.
9 Todos eles virão para fazer violência; os seus rostos avançam como o vento oriental, e reunirão os cativos como areia.
10 And they will make sport with kings, and princes will be a play unto them: at every stronghold will they laugh, and they will cast up earthmounds and capture it.
10 E zombarão dos reis, e os príncipes serão desprezados por eles; eles se rirão de todas as fortalezas, pois amontoarão terra, e as tomarão.
11 Then doth their spirit become arrogant, and they are surpassingly proud, and offend, imputing this their power unto their god.
11 Então a sua mente mudará, e ele passará, e ofenderá, imputando este seu poder ao seu deus.
12 Art thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God, my Holy One? we shall not die. O Lord, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O Protector, thou hast appointed them to correct nations.
12 Não és tu desde a eternidade, ó SENHOR meu Deus, meu Santo? Nós não morreremos. Ó SENHOR, o puseste para o julgamento, e tu, ó Deus Poderoso, o estabeleceste para correção.
13 Thou, who art too pure of eyes to behold evil, and canst not look on trouble, wherefore wilt thou look upon those that deal treacherously, be silent when the wicked swalloweth up him that is more righteous than he?
13 Tu és tão puro de olhos, que não podes ver o mal, e não podes contemplar a iniquidade: Por que olhas para os que procedem traiçoeiramente, e seguras a tua língua quando o perverso devora o homem que é mais justo do que ele?
14 And why makest thou men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them?
14 E farias os homens como os peixes do mar, como os répteis, que não têm quem os governe?
15 All of them he bringeth up with the angle, he draggeth them up in his net, and gathereth them in his drag: therefore he rejoiceth and is glad.
15 Eles levantam a todos com o anzol, e apanham-nos com a sua rede, e os ajuntam na sua varredoura; por isso se regozijam e se alegram.
16 Therefore he sacrificeth unto his net, and burneth incense unto his drag; because through them is his portion fat, and his food marrowy.
16 Por isso eles sacrificarão à sua rede, e queimarão incenso à sua varredoura; porque através delas a sua porção é gorda, e sua carne abundante.
17 Shall he therefore always empty his net, and continually slay nations without sparing?
17 Porventura esvaziarão a sua rede e não pouparão de matar continuamente as nações?
