1 On my couch during the nights I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.
1 De noite, em minha cama, busquei aquele a quem ama a minha alma; busquei-o, e não o achei.
2 Oh, I must rise now, and go about in the city in the streets, and in the open places; I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.
2 Levantar-me-ei, pois, e rodearei a cidade;pelas ruas e pelas praças buscarei aquele a quem ama a minha alma;busquei-o, e não o achei.
3 Then found me the watchmen that walked about the city. "Have ye seen him whom my soul loveth?"
3 Acharam-me os guardas, que rondavam pela cidade;eu lhes perguntei: Vistes aquele a quem ama a minha alma?
4 Scarcely had I passed away from them, when I found him whom my soul loveth: I laid fast hold of him, and would not let him go, until I had brought him into my mother’s house, and into the chamber of her that had born me.
4 Apartando-me eu um pouco deles, logo achei aquele a quem ama a minha alma; agarrei-me a ele, e não o larguei, até que o introduzi em casa de minha mãe, na câmara daquela que me gerou.
5 I adjure you, ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye awaken not, nor excite my love, till it please to come of itself.––
5 Conjuro-vos, ó filhas de Jerusalém, pelas gazelas e cervas do campo, que não acordeis, nem desperteis o meu amor, até que queira.
6 Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, like pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all spicy powders of the merchant?
6 Quem é esta que sobe do deserto, como colunas de fumaça, perfumada de mirra, de incenso, e de todos os pós dos mercadores?
7 Behold, it is the bed, which is Solomon’s, sixty valiant men are round about it, of the valiant ones of Israel.
7 Eis que é a liteira de Salomão; sessenta valentes estão ao redor dela, dos valentes de Israel;
8 All of them are girded with the sword, are expert in war; every one hath his sword upon his thigh, because of the terror in the nights.
8 Todos armados de espadas, destros na guerra; cada um com a sua espada à cinta por causa dos temores noturnos.
9 A palanquin did king Solomon make for himself out of the wood of Lebanon.
9 O rei Salomão fez para si uma carruagem de madeira do Líbano.
10 The pillars thereof he made of silver, its coverlid of gold, its seat of purple: its inner part is arranged lovely, by the daughters of Jerusalem.
10 Fez-lhe as colunas de prata, o estrado de ouro, o assento de púrpura, o interior revestido com amor, pelas filhas de Jerusalém.
11 Go forth, and look, O ye daughters of Zion, on king Solomon, with the crown wherewith his mother hath crowned him on the day of his espousals, and on the day of the joy in his heart.
11 Saí, ó filhas de Sião, e contemplai ao rei Salomão com a coroa com que o coroou sua mãe no dia do seu desposório e no dia do júbilo do seu coração.
