1 Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled before the Philistines, and there fell down many slain on mount Gilboa’.
1 E os filisteus pelejaram com Israel; e os homens de Israel fugiram de diante dos filisteus e caíram feridos nas montanhas de Gilboa.
2 And the Philistines pursuing them overtook Saul and his sons; and the Philistines smote Jonathan, and ‘Abinadab, and Malkishua’, the sons of Saul.
2 E os filisteus apertaram com Saul e com seus filhos e feriram os filisteus a Jônatas, e a Abinadabe, e a Malquisua, filhos de Saul.
3 And the battle was heavy against Saul, and he was found by the archers, and he was greatly in dread of the archers.
3 E a peleja se agravou contra Saul, e os flecheiros o acharam, e ele temeu muito aos flecheiros.
4 And Saul said to his armor–bearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and wantonly ill–use me. But his armor–bearer would not; for he was greatly afraid: wherefore Saul took the sword and fell upon it.
4 Então, disse Saul ao seu escudeiro: Arranca a tua espada e atravessa-me com ela, para que, porventura, não venham estes incircuncisos e escarneçam de mim. Porém o seu escudeiro não quis, porque temia muito; então, tomou Saul a espada e se lançou sobre ela.
5 And when the armor–bearer saw that Saul was dead, then fell he likewise on the sword, and died.
5 Vendo, pois, o seu escudeiro que Saul estava morto, também ele se lançou sobre a espada e morreu.
6 Thus died Saul and his three sons; and all his household died together.
6 Assim, morreram Saul e seus três filhos; e toda a sua casa morreu juntamente.
7 And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they had fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead: they forsook their cities, and fled, and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
7 E, vendo todos os homens de Israel que estavam no vale que haviam fugido e que Saul e seus filhos eram mortos, deixaram as suas cidades e fugiram; então, vieram os filisteus e habitaram nelas.
8 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the Philistines came to strip the slain; and they found Saul and his sons fallen on mount Gilboa’.
8 E sucedeu que, no dia seguinte, vindo os filisteus a despojar os mortos, acharam Saul e os seus filhos estirados nas montanhas de Gilboa.
9 And they stripped him, and they carried away his head, and his armor, and sent them into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it to their idols, and to the people.
9 E os despojaram, e tomaram a sua cabeça e as suas armas, e as enviaram pela terra dos filisteus em redor, para o anunciarem a seus ídolos e ao povo.
10 And they put his armor in the house of their gods, and his skull they fastened in the temple of Dagon.
10 E puseram as suas armas na casa do seu deus e a sua cabeça fixaram na casa de Dagom.
11 And when all Yabesh–gil’ad heard all the Philistines had done to Saul:
11 Ouvindo, pois, toda a Jabes-Gileade tudo quanto os filisteus fizeram a Saul,
12 Then arose all the valiant men, and carried away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Yabesh; and they buried their bones under the terebinth in Yabesh, and they fasted seven days.
12 então, todos os homens belicosos se levantaram, e tomaram o corpo de Saul e os corpos de seus filhos, e os trouxeram a Jabes; e sepultaram os seus ossos debaixo de um carvalho, em Jabes, e jejuaram sete dias.
13 And so died Saul for his unfaithfulness which he had committed against the Lord, because of the word of the Lord which he had not kept, and also for asking one of a familiar spirit to inquire of the same;
13 Assim, morreu Saul por causa da sua transgressão com que transgrediu contra o Senhor , por causa da palavra do Senhor , a qual não havia guardado; e também porque buscou a adivinhadora para a consultar
14 And had not inquired of the Lord: therefore he slew him, and turned over the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.
14 e não buscou o Senhor , pelo que o matou e transferiu o reino a Davi, filho de Jessé.
