1 But now they that are younger than I hold me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.
1 Mas agora, aqueles que são mais jovens do que eu estão rindo de mim, cujos pais eu teria recusado deixar com os cães de meu rebanho.
2 Yea, how might the strength of their hands profit me, in whom vigor has perished?
2 Sim, para onde poderia a força de suas mãos me acrescentar, em quem a idade avançada havia perecido?
3 From want and famine they are gaunt; fleeing of late into the wilderness, desolate and waste.
3 Por necessidade e fome eles estiveram solitários; fugindo para dentro do deserto em tempos passados, assolado e devastado.
4 Who pick mallows by the bushes, and juniper roots for their food.
4 Eles cortavam malvas dos arbustos, e raízes de zimbro para lhes alimentar.
5 They were driven forth from among men, (they cried after them as after a thief;)
5 Eles eram expulsos do meio dos homens (e gritavam atrás deles como atrás de um ladrão),
6 To dwell in the clefts of the valleys, in caves of the earth, and in the rocks.
6 para habitarem nos penhascos dos vales, nas cavernas da terra e nas rochas.
7 Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together.
7 Entre os arbustos eles zurravam; debaixo das urtigas eles se ajuntavam.
8 They were children of fools, yea, children of base men: they were viler than the earth.
8 Eles eram filhos de tolos, sim, filhos de homens da base; eram mais vis do que a terra.
9 And now am I their song, yea, I am their byword.
9 E agora eu sou a sua canção, sim, eu sou o seu motivo de riso.
10 They abhor me, they flee far from me, and hesitate not to spit in my face.
10 Eles me abominam, fogem para longe de mim, e não se poupam em cuspir na minha face.
11 Because he has loosed my cord, and afflicted me, they have also cast off restraint before me.
11 Porque ele soltou meu cordão, e me afligiu, eles também soltaram o freio diante de mim.
12 Upon my right hand rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.
12 À minha mão direita levanta-se a juventude; eles empurram meus pés para longe, e levantam contra mim os caminhos de sua destruição.
13 They mar my path, they set forward my calamity, they have no helper.
13 Eles deterioram o meu caminho; promovem a minha calamidade; eles não têm ajudador.
14 They came upon me as a wide breaking in of waters: in the desolation they rolled themselves upon me.
14 Eles vieram sobre mim como uma grande destruição de águas; na assolação eles rolaram sobre mim.
15 Terrors are turned upon me: they pursue my honor as the wind: and my welfare passes away as a cloud.
15 Terrores vêm sobre mim; eles perseguem minha alma como o vento; e minha prosperidade passou como uma nuvem.
16 And now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of affliction have taken hold upon me.
16 E agora minha alma se derrama sobre mim; os dias de aflição se apoderaram de mim.
17 My bones are pierced in me in the night season: and my sinews take no rest.
17 Meus ossos são perfurados dentro de mim no período da noite, e meus tendões não têm descanso.
18 By the great force of my disease is my garment changed: it binds me about as the collar of my coat.
18 Pela grande força da minha enfermidade minhas vestes mudaram; elas grudam em mim como a gola da minha túnica.
19 He has cast me into the mire, and I am become like dust and ashes.
19 Ele me lançou na lama, e eu me tornei como pó e cinzas.
20 I cry unto you, and you do not hear me: I stand up, and you regard me not.
20 Eu clamo a ti, e tu não me ouves; levanto-me, e tu não me consideras.
21 You have become cruel to me: with your strong hand you oppose yourself against me.
21 Tornaste-te cruel para mim; com tua mão forte tu te opões contra mim.
22 You lift me up to the wind; you cause me to ride upon it, and spoil my substance.
22 Tu me elevas ao vento, fazes-me cavalgar sobre ele, e dissolves o meu bem.
23 For I know that you will bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living.
23 Porque eu sei que me levarás à morte, e à casa determinada a todos os viventes.
24 Yet he will not stretch out his hand to the grave, though they cry out in his destruction.
24 Porém ele não estenderá sua mão ao túmulo, ainda que eles clamem na sua destruição.
25 Did I not weep for him that was in trouble? was not my soul grieved for the poor?
25 Não chorei por aquele que estava atribulado; não se afligiu a minha alma pelo pobre?
26 When I looked for good, then evil came unto me: and when I waited for light, there came darkness.
26 Quando eu procurei pelo bem, o mal veio sobre mim; e quando eu esperei pela luz, vieram trevas.
27 My heart is in turmoil, and rests not: the days of affliction confront me.
27 As minhas entranhas ferveram, e não descansaram; os dias da aflição me impediram.
28 I went mourning but not in the sun: I stood up, and I cried in the congregation.
28 Saí pranteando sem o sol; levantei-me e clamei na congregação.
29 I am a brother to jackals, and a companion to ostriches.
29 Eu sou um irmão para dragões, e companhia para corujas.
30 My skin is black upon me, and my bones are burned with heat.
30 Minha pele está preta sobre mim, e meus ossos estão queimados pelo calor.
31 My harp also is turned to mourning, and my flute into the voice of them that weep.
31 A minha harpa também se tornou em pranto, e o meu órgão na voz dos que choram.
