1 Oh that thou would rend the heavens, that thou would come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence,
1 Oh! Se fendesses os céus e descesses! Se os montes tremessem na tua presença,
2 as [when] the melting fire burns, the fire causes the waters to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, [that] the Gentiles may tremble at thy presence!
2 como quando o fogo inflama os gravetos, como quando faz ferver as águas, para fazeres notório o teu nome aos teus adversários, de sorte que as nações tremessem da tua presença!
3 [As] thou didst come down when thou didst terrible things [which] we did not look for, [that] the mountains flowed down at thy presence.
3 Quando fizeste coisas terríveis, que não esperávamos, desceste, e os montes tremeram à tua presença.
4 Nor have [men] heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither has the eye seen a God beside thee, that thou might do [it again] for the one who waits in him.
4 Porque desde a antiguidade não se ouviu, nem com ouvidos se percebeu, nem com os olhos se viu Deus além de ti, que trabalha para aquele que nele espera.
5 Thou didst come out to meet him that with rejoicing had worked righteousness. In thy ways they remembered thee. Behold, thou art wroth; for we have sinned: thy ways are eternal, and [we] shall be saved.
5 Sais ao encontro daquele que com alegria pratica justiça, daqueles que se lembram de ti nos teus caminhos; eis que te iraste, porque pecamos; por muito tempo temos pecado e havemos de ser salvos?
6 But we were all as an unclean [thing], and all our righteousnesses as filthy rags; and we all fell as the leaves [of a tree]; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
6 Mas todos nós somos como o imundo, e todas as nossas justiças, como trapo da imundícia; todos nós murchamos como a folha, e as nossas iniquidades, como um vento, nos arrebatam.
7 And [there is] none that calls upon thy name, that wakes himself up to take hold [of thee]; therefore, thou hast hid thy face from us and hast allowed us to wither in the power of our iniquities.
7 Já ninguém há que invoque o teu nome, que se desperte e te detenha; porque escondes de nós o rosto e nos consomes por causa das nossas iniquidades.
8 But now, O LORD, thou [art] our father; we [are] the clay, and thou our potter; such that we all [are] the work of thy hands.
8 Mas agora, ó Senhor , tu és nosso Pai, nós somos o barro, e tu, o nosso oleiro; e todos nós, obra das tuas mãos.
9 Be not wroth very sore, O LORD, neither remember iniquity for ever; behold, see, we beseech thee, we [are] all thy people.
9 Não te enfureças tanto, ó Senhor , nem perpetuamente te lembres da nossa iniquidade; olha, pois, nós te pedimos: todos nós somos o teu povo.
10 Thy holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.
10 As tuas santas cidades tornaram-se em deserto, Sião, em ermo; Jerusalém está assolada.
11 Our house of our Sanctuary and of our glory, where our fathers praised thee, was burned up with fire; and all our precious things were destroyed.
11 O nosso templo santo e glorioso, em que nossos pais te louvavam, foi queimado; todas as nossas coisas preciosas se tornaram em ruínas.
12 Wilt thou refrain thyself regarding these [things], O LORD? Wilt thou hold thy peace and afflict us very sore?:
12 Conter-te-ias tu ainda, ó Senhor , sobre estas calamidades? Ficarias calado e nos afligirias sobremaneira?
