1 After these things King Ahasuerus promoted Haman, the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, and advanced him and set his seat above all the princes that [were] with him.
1 Depois disto, o rei Assuero engrandeceu Hamã, filho de Hamedata, agagita, e o exaltou, e lhe deu um cargo mais elevado do que o de todos os oficiais que estavam com ele.
2 And all the king's servants that [were] in the king's gate, knelt down and worshipped Haman, for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai did not kneel or worship [before him].
2 Todos os servos do rei, que estavam à porta do rei, se inclinavam e se prostravam diante de Hamã, porque esta era a ordem do rei a respeito dele. Mordecai, porém, não se inclinava nem se prostrava.
3 Then the king's servants, who [were] in the king's gate, said unto Mordecai, Why dost thou pass over the king's commandment?
3 Então os servos do rei, que estavam à porta do rei, perguntaram a Mordecai: — Por que você está transgredindo as ordens do rei?
4 Now it came to pass, when they spoke daily unto him, and he did not hearken unto them, that they told Haman to see whether Mordecai's word would stand; for he had told them that he [was] a Jew.
4 Dia após dia eles falavam com Mordecai, mas ele não lhes dava ouvidos. Então contaram isso a Hamã, para ver se as palavras de Mordecai se manteriam em pé, porque ele lhes tinha declarado que era judeu.
5 And when Haman saw that Mordecai did not kneel or worship [before] him, then Haman was filled with wrath.
5 Quando Hamã viu que Mordecai não se inclinava nem se prostrava diante dele, encheu-se de furor.
6 And he thought it a small matter to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for now they had declared unto him the people of Mordecai; therefore, Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that [were] throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, the people of Mordecai.
6 Porém julgou que era pouco, nos seus propósitos, atentar apenas contra Mordecai, porque lhe haviam declarado de que povo era Mordecai. Por isso, Hamã procurou destruir todos os judeus, povo de Mordecai, que havia em todo o reino de Assuero.
7 In the first month, that [is], the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that [is], the lot, before Haman from day to day and from month to month, and the twelfth [month], that [is], the month Adar was taken.
7 No primeiro mês, que é o mês de nisã, no décimo segundo ano do reinado de Assuero, foi lançado o Pur, isto é, fizeram um sorteio na presença de Hamã, para determinar o dia e o mês; e foi sorteado o décimo segundo mês, que é o mês de adar.
8 And Haman said unto King Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of thy kingdom, and their laws [are] different from all [other] people; neither do they observe the king's laws: therefore, it [is] not profitable for the king to allow them to remain.
8 Então Hamã disse ao rei Assuero: — Existe um povo espalhado e disperso entre os povos em todas as províncias do seu reino, cujas leis são diferentes das leis de todos os povos. Eles não cumprem as leis do rei e por isso não convém tolerá-los.
9 If it pleases the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed; and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to the hands of those that have the charge of the public works, to bring [it] into the king's treasuries.
9 Se for do agrado do rei, decrete-se que sejam mortos, e eu porei nas mãos dos que executarem a obra trezentas e quarenta toneladas de prata para que entrem nos tesouros do rei.
10 And the king took his ring from his hand and gave it unto Haman, the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the Jews' enemy.
10 Então o rei tirou da mão o seu anel-sinete e o deu a Hamã, filho de Hamedata, agagita, inimigo dos judeus,
11 And the king said unto Haman, The silver [is] given to thee, the people also, to do with them as it seems good to thee.
11 e lhe disse: — Fique com essa prata e faça com esse povo o que bem quiser.
12 Then the king's scribes were called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and it was written according to all that Haman had commanded unto the king's lieutenants and to the governors that [were] over each province and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof and [to] every people after their language; in the name of King Ahasuerus it was written and sealed with the king's ring.
12 No dia treze do primeiro mês, chamaram os secretários do rei e, segundo tudo o que Hamã havia ordenado, se escreveu aos sátrapas do rei, aos governadores de todas as províncias e aos chefes de cada povo. A ordem devia ser endereçada a cada província no seu próprio modo de escrever e a cada povo na sua própria língua. Foi escrita em nome do rei Assuero e selada com o anel-sinete do rei.
13 And the letters were sent by posts into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, upon the thirteenth [day] of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and [to take] the spoil of them for a prey.
13 As cartas foram enviadas por meio de mensageiros a todas as províncias do rei, com instruções para que num só dia, o dia treze do décimo segundo mês, que é o mês de adar, todos os judeus, tanto os jovens como os velhos, as mulheres e as crianças, fossem destruídos, mortos e aniquilados, e que os seus bens fossem saqueados.
14 The copy of the writing was to be given as law in every province that it be published unto all the peoples, that they should be ready against that day.
14 Uma cópia da carta, que determinava a proclamação da lei em todas as províncias, foi enviada a todos os povos, para que se preparassem para aquele dia.
15 The posts went out in haste by the king's commandment, and the law was given in Shushan, the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city of Shushan was perplexed.:
15 Os mensageiros, impelidos pela ordem do rei, partiram imediatamente. E a lei foi proclamada na cidadela de Susã. O rei Assuero e Hamã se assentaram para beber, mas a cidade de Susã estava perplexa.
