1 Simon Peter, servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those that have obtained like precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ:
1 Eu, Simão Pedro, escravo e apóstolo de Jesus Cristo, escrevo esta carta a vocês que compartilham de nossa preciosa fé, concedida por meio da justiça de Jesus Cristo, nosso Deus e Salvador.
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you in the knowledge of God and of our Lord Jesus,
2 Que vocês tenham cada vez mais graça e paz à medida que crescem no conhecimento de Deus e de Jesus, nosso Senhor.
3 as all things that pertain to life and to godliness are given us of his divine power, through the knowledge of him that has called us by his glory and virtue,
3 Deus, com seu poder divino, nos concede tudo de que necessitamos para uma vida de devoção, pelo conhecimento completo daquele que nos chamou para si por meio de sua glória e excelência.
4 whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises, that by these ye might be made participants of the divine nature, having fled the corruption that is in the world through lust.
4 E, por causa de sua glória e excelência, ele nos deu grandes e preciosas promessas. São elas que permitem a vocês participar da natureza divina e escapar da corrupção do mundo causada pelos desejos humanos.
5 Ye also, giving all diligence to the same, show forth virtue in your faith; and in virtue, knowledge;
5 Diante de tudo isso, esforcem-se ao máximo para corresponder a essas promessas. Acrescentem à fé a excelência moral; à excelência moral o conhecimento;
6 and in knowledge, temperance; and in temperance, patience; and in patience, fear of God;
6 ao conhecimento o domínio próprio; ao domínio próprio a perseverança; à perseverança a devoção a Deus;
7 and in fear of God, brotherly love; and in brotherly love, charity.
7 à devoção a Deus a fraternidade; e à fraternidade o amor.
8 For if these things are in you and abound, they shall not let you be idle nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
8 Quanto mais crescerem nessas coisas, mais produtivos e úteis serão no conhecimento completo de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.
9 But he that lacks these things is blind and walks feeling the way with his hand, having forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
9 Mas aqueles que não se desenvolvem desse modo são praticamente cegos, vendo apenas o que está perto, e se esquecem de que foram purificados de seus antigos pecados.
10 Therefore, brethren, give all the more diligence to make your calling and election sure; for doing these things, ye shall never fall.
10 Por isso, irmãos, trabalhem ainda mais arduamente para mostrar que, de fato, estão entre os que foram chamados e escolhidos. Façam essas coisas e jamais tropeçarão.
11 Because in this manner the entrance shall be abundantly administered unto you in the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
11 Assim, sua entrada no reino eterno de nosso Senhor e Salvador Jesus Cristo será acompanhada de grande honra.
12 For this [reason], I will not leave off reminding you always of these things, although ye know [them] and are established in the present truth.
12 Portanto, sempre lhes lembrarei estas coisas, embora já as saibam e estejam firmes na verdade que lhes foi ensinada.
13 Because I have [the] right (as long as I am in this tabernacle) to stir you up by reminding [you],
13 E é apropriado que, enquanto eu viver, continue a lembrá-los.
14 knowing that shortly I must put off [this] my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ has declared unto me.
14 Pois nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo me mostrou que, em breve, partirei desta vida,
15 I will also make sure with diligence that after my decease ye might remember these things.
15 por isso me esforçarei para garantir que vocês sempre se lembrem destas coisas depois de minha partida.
16 For we have not made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, following cunningly devised fables, but as eyewitnesses of his majesty.
16 Porque não inventamos histórias engenhosas quando lhes falamos da poderosa vinda de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo. Vimos com os próprios olhos seu esplendor majestoso,
17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
17 quando ele recebeu honra e glória da parte de Deus, o Pai. A voz da glória suprema de Deus lhe disse: “Este é meu Filho amado, que me dá grande alegria”.
18 And we heard this voice which came from heaven, when we were together with him in the holy mount.
18 Nós mesmos ouvimos essa voz do céu quando estávamos com ele no monte santo.
19 We have also the most sure word of the prophets, unto which ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts,
19 Além disso, temos a mensagem que os profetas proclamaram, que é digna de toda confiança. Prestem muita atenção ao que eles escreveram, pois suas palavras são como lâmpada que ilumina um lugar escuro, até que o dia clareie e a estrela da manhã brilhe no coração de vocês.
20 understanding this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
20 Acima de tudo, saibam que nenhuma profecia nas Escrituras surgiu do entendimento do próprio profeta,
21 For the prophecy did not come in times past by the will of man, but the holy men of God spoke being inspired by the Holy Spirit.:
21 nem de iniciativa humana. Esses homens foram impulsionados pelo Espírito Santo e falaram da parte de Deus.
