1 And I said: Hear, I pray you, ye heads of Jacob, and rulers of the house of Israel: is it not for you to know justice?
1 Escutem, líderes e autoridades de Israel! Vocês deviam praticar a justiça
2 Who hate the good, and love the evil; who rob their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones;
2 e, no entanto, odeiam o bem e amam o mal. Vocês tiram a pele do meu povo e arrancam a carne dos seus ossos.
3 Who also eat the flesh of my people, and flay their skin from off them, and break their bones; yea, they chop them in pieces, as that which is in the pot, and as flesh within the caldron.
3 Vocês devoram o meu povo: arrancam a pele, quebram os ossos e cortam a carne em pedaços, como se faz com a carne que vai ser cozinhada.
4 Then shall they cry unto the LORD, but He will not answer them; yea, He will hide His face from them at that time, according as they have wrought evil in their doings.
4 Virá o dia em que vocês clamarão ao Senhor Deus, mas ele não os atenderá; vocês fazem o que é mau, e por isso ele não ouvirá as suas orações.
5 Thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that make my people to err; that cry: 'Peace', when their teeth have any thing to bite; and whoso putteth not into their mouths, they even prepare war against him:
5 Os profetas enganam o povo. Para os que lhes pagam eles prometem paz, mas ameaçam com guerra os que não lhes dão nada. O Senhor diz a esses profetas:
6 Therefore it shall be night unto you, that ye shall have no vision; and it shall be dark unto you, that ye shall not divine; and the sun shall go down upon the prophets, and the day shall be black over them.
6 — Em vez de visões vocês terão a escuridão, e em vez de revelações haverá somente trevas para vocês. A luz do dia vai desaparecer para vocês, e a escuridão da noite cairá sobre vocês.
7 And the seers shall be put to shame, and the diviners confounded; yea, they shall all cover their upper lips; for there shall be no answer of God.
7 Os adivinhos e os que dizem o que vai acontecer no futuro passarão vergonha. Não receberão resposta de Deus e por isso ficarão desmoralizados.
8 But I truly am full of power by the spirit of the LORD, and of justice, and of might, to declare unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.
8 Mas, quanto a mim, o Espírito do Senhor me dá poder, amor pela justiça e coragem para condenar os pecados e as maldades do povo de Israel.
9 Hear this, I pray you, ye heads of the house of Jacob, and rulers of the house of Israel, that abhor justice, and pervert all equity;
9 Escutem, líderes e autoridades de Israel! Vocês odeiam o que é bom e torcem a justiça.
10 That build up Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with iniquity.
10 Vocês estão construindo Jerusalém, a cidade santa, sobre um alicerce de injustiças e de crimes de sangue.
11 The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money; yet will they lean upon the LORD, and say: 'Is not the LORD in the midst of us? No evil shall come upon us'?
11 As autoridades de Jerusalém aceitam dinheiro para torcer a justiça, os sacerdotes cobram para ensinar a Lei , e os profetas exigem pagamento para adivinhar o futuro. Mas mesmo assim eles afirmam que recebem ajuda de Deus. Eles dizem: “Nenhum mal vai acontecer porque o Senhor está do nosso lado.”
12 Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.
12 Portanto, por causa de vocês, Jerusalém vai virar um montão de pedras, o monte Sião vai ser arado como um campo, e o lugar onde fica o Templo se tornará uma floresta.
