1 So the king and Haman came to banquet with Esther the queen.
1 Portanto, o rei e Hamã foram de novo ao banquete da rainha Ester,
2 And the king said again unto Esther on the second day at the banquet of wine: 'Whatever thy petition, queen Esther, it shall be granted thee; and whatever thy request, even to the half of the kingdom, it shall be performed.'
2 e novamente, enquanto bebiam vinho, o rei perguntou a Ester: — Qual é o seu pedido? Peça o que quiser, que eu lhe darei, mesmo que seja a metade do meu reino.
3 Then Esther the queen answered and said: 'If I have found favour in thy sight, O king, and if it please the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request;
3 Ela respondeu: — Se eu puder me valer da bondade do rei, e se for do seu agrado, a única coisa que quero é que o senhor salve a minha vida e a vida do meu povo.
4 for we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. But if we had been sold for bondmen and bondwomen, I had held my peace, for the adversary is not worthy that the king be endamaged.'
4 Pois o meu povo e eu fomos vendidos para sermos destruídos e mortos. Se fosse somente o caso de sermos todos vendidos como escravos, eu não diria nada, pois não seria justo incomodar o senhor por causa de uma desgraça tão sem importância como esta.
5 Then spoke the king Ahasuerus and said unto Esther the queen: 'Who is he, and where is he, that durst presume in his heart to do so?'
5 O rei Xerxes perguntou à rainha Ester: — Quem é o homem que está pensando em fazer isso e onde está ele?
6 And Esther said: 'An adversary and an enemy, even this wicked Haman.' Then Haman was terrified before the king and the queen.
6 — O nosso inimigo e perseguidor é Hamã, este homem perverso! — respondeu Ester. Cheio de medo, Hamã ficou olhando para o rei e para a rainha.
7 And the king arose in his wrath from the banquet of wine and went into the palace garden; but Haman remained to make request for his life to Esther the queen; for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king.
7 O rei saiu furioso do salão de banquetes e foi para o jardim. Hamã percebeu que o rei havia resolvido castigá-lo e por isso ficou no salão para pedir à rainha que salvasse a sua vida.
8 Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman was fallen upon the couch whereon Esther was. Then said the king: 'Will he even force the queen before me in the house?' As the word went out of the king's mouth, they covered Haman's face.
8 Ele se jogou no sofá onde Ester estava, para pedir misericórdia, e nesse instante o rei voltou do jardim. Quando viu Hamã, o rei disse: — Será que ele pretende desonrar a rainha aqui no meu palácio e na minha frente? Assim que o rei acabou de falar, os seus servidores particulares cobriram a cabeça de Hamã.
9 Then said Harbonah, one of the chamberlains that were before the king: 'Behold also, the gallows fifty cubits high, which Haman hath made for Mordecai, who spoke good for the king, standeth in the house of Haman.' And the king said: 'Hang him thereon.'
9 Um deles, chamado Harbona, disse: — Perto da casa de Hamã há uma forca de uns vinte metros de altura que ele mandou construir para enforcar Mordecai, o homem que salvou a vida do senhor. — Enforquem Hamã nela! — ordenou o rei.
10 So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath assuaged.
10 Então enforcaram Hamã na forca que ele tinha construído para enforcar Mordecai. E assim a raiva do rei se acalmou.
