Eclesiastes 5

1 Guard thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be ready to hearken: it is better than when fools give sacrifices; for they know not that they do evil.
1 Quando você entrar na casa de Deus, tome cuidado com o que faz e ouça com atenção. Age mal quem apresenta ofertas a Deus sem pensar.
2 Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thy heart be hasty to utter a word before God; for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth; therefore let thy words be few.
2 Não se precipite em fazer promessas nem em apresentar suas questões a Deus. Afinal, Deus está nos céus, e você, na terra; portanto, fale pouco.
3 For a dream cometh through a multitude of business; and a fool's voice through a multitude of words.
3 Do excesso de trabalho vem o sonho agitado; do excesso de palavras vêm as promessas do tolo.
4 When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for He hath no pleasure in fools; pay that which thou vowest.
4 Quando fizer uma promessa a Deus, não demore a cumpri-la, pois ele não se agrada dos tolos. Cumpra todas as promessas que fizer.
5 Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.
5 É melhor não dizer nada que fazer uma promessa e não cumprir.
6 Suffer not thy mouth to bring thy flesh into guilt, neither say thou before the messenger, that it was an error; wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thy hands?
6 Não permita que sua boca o leve a pecar. E não se defenda dizendo ao mensageiro do templo que a promessa foi um engano. Isso deixaria Deus irado, e ele poderia destruir tudo que você conquistou.
7 For through the multitude of dreams and vanities there are also many words; but fear thou God.
7 Sonhar demais é inútil, assim como falar muito. Em vez disso, tema a Deus.
8 If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and the violent perverting of justice and righteousness in the state, marvel not at the matter; for one higher than the high watcheth, and there are higher than they.
8 Não se surpreenda se, em toda a terra, você vir os pobres sofrendo opressão pelos poderosos, e a justiça e o direito sendo pervertidos. Cada oficial é subordinado a uma autoridade superior, e a justiça se perde em meio à burocracia.
9 But the profit of a land every way is a king that maketh himself servant to the field.
9 Até mesmo o rei tira para si o máximo proveito da terra.
10 He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance, with increase; this also is vanity.
10 Quem ama o dinheiro nunca terá o suficiente. Quem ama a riqueza nunca se satisfará com o que ganha. Não faz sentido viver desse modo!
11 When goods increase, they are increased that eat them; and what advantage is there to the owner thereof, saving the beholding of them with his eyes?
11 Quanto mais você tem, mais pessoas aparecem para ajudá-lo a gastar. Portanto, de que serve a riqueza, senão para vê-la escapar por entre os dedos?
12 Sweet is the sleep of a labouring man, whether he eat little or much; but the satiety of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.
12 Quem trabalha com dedicação dorme bem, quer coma pouco, quer muito. As muitas riquezas, porém, não deixam o rico dormir.
13 There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept by the owner thereof to his hurt;
13 Observei ainda outro grave problema debaixo do sol: o acúmulo de riquezas prejudica seu dono.
14 and those riches perish by evil adventure; and if he hath begotten a son, there is nothing in his hand.
14 Se o dinheiro é colocado em investimentos arriscados e eles dão errado, perde-se tudo. No final, não sobra nada para deixar aos filhos.
15 As he came forth of his mother's womb, naked shall he go back as he came, and shall take nothing for his labour, which he may carry away in his hand.
15 Todos nós chegamos ao fim da vida nus e de mãos vazias, como no dia em que nascemos. Não levamos conosco o fruto de nosso trabalho.
16 And this also is a grievous evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go; and what profit hath he that he laboureth for the wind?
16 Isto também é um grande mal: as pessoas vão embora deste mundo como vieram. Todo o seu esforço é inútil, como trabalhar para o vento.
17 All his days also he eateth in darkness, and he hath much vexation and sickness and wrath.
17 Passam a vida sob uma nuvem escura de frustração, doença e indignação.
18 Behold that which I have seen: it is good, yea, it is comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy pleasure for all his labour, wherein he laboureth under the sun, all the days of his life which God hath given him; for this is his portion.
18 Ainda assim, observei pelo menos uma coisa positiva: é bom que as pessoas comam, bebam e desfrutem os resultados de seu trabalho debaixo do sol durante a vida curta que Deus lhes dá e aceitem a parte que lhes cabe.
19 Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour--this is the gift of God.
19 Também é bom receber de Deus riqueza e boa saúde para aproveitá-la. Alegrar-se com seu trabalho e aceitar a parte que lhe cabe na vida são, sem dúvida, presentes de Deus.
20 For let him remember the days of his life that they are not many; for God answereth him in the joy of his heart.
20 Deus mantém as pessoas tão ocupadas com as alegrias da vida que não lhes sobra tempo para refletir sobre o passado.
