Eclesiastes 5

1 Guard thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be ready to hearken: it is better than when fools give sacrifices; for they know not that they do evil.
1 Guarda o pé, quando entrares na Casa de Deus; chegar-se para ouvir é melhor do que oferecer sacrifícios de tolos, pois não sabem que fazem mal.
2 Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thy heart be hasty to utter a word before God; for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth; therefore let thy words be few.
2 Não te precipites com a tua boca, nem o teu coração se apresse a pronunciar palavra alguma diante de Deus; porque Deus está nos céus, e tu, na terra; portanto, sejam poucas as tuas palavras.
3 For a dream cometh through a multitude of business; and a fool's voice through a multitude of words.
3 Porque dos muitos trabalhos vêm os sonhos, e do muito falar, palavras néscias.
4 When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for He hath no pleasure in fools; pay that which thou vowest.
4 Quando a Deus fizeres algum voto, não tardes em cumpri-lo; porque não se agrada de tolos. Cumpre o voto que fazes.
5 Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.
5 Melhor é que não votes do que votes e não cumpras.
6 Suffer not thy mouth to bring thy flesh into guilt, neither say thou before the messenger, that it was an error; wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thy hands?
6 Não consintas que a tua boca te faça culpado, nem digas diante do mensageiro de Deus que foi inadvertência; por que razão se iraria Deus por causa da tua palavra, a ponto de destruir as obras das tuas mãos?
7 For through the multitude of dreams and vanities there are also many words; but fear thou God.
7 Porque, como na multidão dos sonhos há vaidade, assim também, nas muitas palavras; tu, porém, teme a Deus.
8 If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and the violent perverting of justice and righteousness in the state, marvel not at the matter; for one higher than the high watcheth, and there are higher than they.
8 Se vires em alguma província opressão de pobres e o roubo em lugar do direito e da justiça, não te maravilhes de semelhante caso; porque o que está alto tem acima de si outro mais alto que o explora, e sobre estes há ainda outros mais elevados que também exploram.
9 But the profit of a land every way is a king that maketh himself servant to the field.
9 O proveito da terra é para todos; até o rei se serve do campo.
10 He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance, with increase; this also is vanity.
10 Quem ama o dinheiro jamais dele se farta; e quem ama a abundância nunca se farta da renda; também isto é vaidade.
11 When goods increase, they are increased that eat them; and what advantage is there to the owner thereof, saving the beholding of them with his eyes?
11 Onde os bens se multiplicam, também se multiplicam os que deles comem; que mais proveito, pois, têm os seus donos do que os verem com seus olhos?
12 Sweet is the sleep of a labouring man, whether he eat little or much; but the satiety of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.
12 Doce é o sono do trabalhador, quer coma pouco, quer muito; mas a fartura do rico não o deixa dormir.
13 There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept by the owner thereof to his hurt;
13 Grave mal vi debaixo do sol: as riquezas que seus donos guardam para o próprio dano.
14 and those riches perish by evil adventure; and if he hath begotten a son, there is nothing in his hand.
14 E, se tais riquezas se perdem por qualquer má aventura, ao filho que gerou nada lhe fica na mão.
15 As he came forth of his mother's womb, naked shall he go back as he came, and shall take nothing for his labour, which he may carry away in his hand.
15 Como saiu do ventre de sua mãe, assim nu voltará, indo-se como veio; e do seu trabalho nada poderá levar consigo.
16 And this also is a grievous evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go; and what profit hath he that he laboureth for the wind?
16 Também isto é grave mal: precisamente como veio, assim ele vai; e que proveito lhe vem de haver trabalhado para o vento?
17 All his days also he eateth in darkness, and he hath much vexation and sickness and wrath.
17 Nas trevas, comeu em todos os seus dias, com muito enfado, com enfermidades e indignação.
18 Behold that which I have seen: it is good, yea, it is comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy pleasure for all his labour, wherein he laboureth under the sun, all the days of his life which God hath given him; for this is his portion.
18 Eis o que eu vi: boa e bela coisa é comer e beber e gozar cada um do bem de todo o seu trabalho, com que se afadigou debaixo do sol, durante os poucos dias da vida que Deus lhe deu; porque esta é a sua porção.
19 Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour--this is the gift of God.
19 Quanto ao homem a quem Deus conferiu riquezas e bens e lhe deu poder para deles comer, e receber a sua porção, e gozar do seu trabalho, isto é dom de Deus.
20 For let him remember the days of his life that they are not many; for God answereth him in the joy of his heart.
20 Porque não se lembrará muito dos dias da sua vida, porquanto Deus lhe enche o coração de alegria.
