1 The worde which came to Ieremiah from the Lord after that Nebuzar-adan the chiefe stewarde had let him goe from Ramath, when hee had taken him being bound in chaines among all that were caried away captiue of Ierusalem and Iudah, which were caried away captiue vnto Babel.
1 O S enhor deu uma mensagem a Jeremias depois que Nebuzaradã, capitão da guarda, o pôs em liberdade em Ramá. Ele havia encontrado Jeremias acorrentado entre todos os prisioneiros de Jerusalém e Judá que estavam sendo levados para o exílio na Babilônia.
2 And the chiefe stewarde tooke Ieremiah, and said vnto him, The Lord thy God hath pronounced this plague vpon this place.
2 O capitão da guarda mandou chamar Jeremias e disse: “O S enhor , seu Deus, trouxe esta calamidade sobre esta terra.
3 Nowe the Lord hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye haue sinned against the Lord, and haue not obeyed his voyce, therefore this thing is come vpon you.
3 O S enhor cumpriu o que tinha dito, pois esse povo pecou contra o S enhor e lhe desobedeceu. Por isso aconteceram todas essas coisas.
4 And nowe beholde, I loose thee this day from the chaines which were on thine handes, if it please thee to come with me into Babel, come, and I will looke well vnto thee: but if it please thee not to come with mee into Babel, tarie still: beholde, all the lande is before thee: whither it seemeth good, and conuenient for thee to goe, thither goe.
4 Mas eu vou tirar suas correntes e libertá-lo. Se quiser ir comigo para a Babilônia, está bem. Providenciarei que cuidem de você. Se não quiser ir, fique aqui. Toda a terra está diante de você; vá para onde quiser.
5 For yet he was not returned: therefore he said, Returne to Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, the sonne of Shaphan, whom the King of Babel hath made gouernour ouer all the cities of Iudah, and dwell with him among the people, or goe wheresoeuer it pleaseth thee to goe. So the chiefe stewarde gaue him vitailes and a rewarde, and let him goe.
5 Se resolver ficar, volte para Gedalias, filho de Aicam e neto de Safã. O rei da Babilônia o nomeou governador de Judá. Fique com o povo que ele governa. E, se quiser ir para algum outro lugar, faça o que lhe parecer melhor”. Então Nebuzaradã, capitão da guarda, deu a Jeremias um pouco de alimento e dinheiro e o deixou partir.
6 Then went Ieremiah vnto Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and dwelt there with him among the people that were left in the lande.
6 Jeremias voltou para Gedalias, filho de Aicam, em Mispá, e habitou em Judá com os poucos que haviam ficado na terra.
7 Nowe when all the captaines of the hoste, which were in the fieldes, euen they and their men heard, that the King of Babel had made Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam gouernour in the land, and that he had committed vnto him, men, and women, and children, and of the poore of the lande, that were not caried away captiue to Babel,
7 Os comandantes dos grupos de soldados que estavam no interior de Judá souberam que o rei da Babilônia havia nomeado Gedalias, filho de Aicam, para governar o povo pobre que tinha ficado em Judá, isto é, os homens, as mulheres e as crianças que não haviam sido enviados para o exílio na Babilônia.
8 Then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, euen Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah, and Iohanan, and Ionathan the sonnes of Kareah, and Seraiah the sonne of Tanehumeth, and the sonnes of Ephai, the Netophathite, and Iezaniah the sonne of Maachathi, they and their men.
8 Então foram ver Gedalias em Mispá. Entre eles estavam Ismael, filho de Netanias, Joanã e Jônatas, filhos de Careá, Seraías, filho de Tanumete, os filhos de Efai, o netofatita, Jazanias, filho do maacatita, e todos os seus homens.
9 And Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, the sonne of Shaphan sware vnto them, and to their men, saying, Feare not to serue the Caldeans: dwell in the lande, and serue the King of Babel, and it shall be well with you.
9 Gedalias jurou a eles que os babilônios não tinham intenção de lhes fazer mal. “Não tenham medo de servi-los. Vivam na terra e sirvam ao rei da Babilônia, e tudo lhes irá bem”, ele prometeu.
10 As for me, Beholde, I will dwell at Mizpah to serue the Caldeans, which will come vnto vs: but you, gather you wine, and sommer fruites, and oyle, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities, that ye haue taken.
10 “Quanto a mim, ficarei em Mispá e os representarei diante dos babilônios que vierem se encontrar conosco. Estabeleçam-se nas cidades que tomaram e vivam dos frutos da terra. Colham uvas, frutas de verão e azeitonas e armazenem tudo.”
11 Likewise when all the Iewes that were in Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the King of Babel had left a remnant of Iudah, and that he had set ouer them Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam the sonne of Shaphan,
11 Quando os judeus em Moabe, Amom, Edom e outras terras vizinhas souberam que o rei da Babilônia tinha deixado um remanescente do povo em Judá e que Gedalias era o governador,
12 Euen all the Iewes returned out of all places where they were driuen, and came to the land of Iudah to Gedaliah vnto Mizpah, and gathered wine and sommer fruites, very much.
12 começaram a voltar para Judá dos lugares para os quais haviam fugido. Pararam em Mispá, onde se encontraram com Gedalias. Depois, seguiram para os campos em Judá e tiveram uma farta colheita de uvas e frutas de verão.
13 Moreouer Iohanan the sonne of Kareah, and all the captaines of the hoste, that were in the fieldes, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah,
13 Algum tempo depois, Joanã, filho de Careá, e os outros comandantes dos soldados que estavam no interior foram até Gedalias, em Mispá,
14 And said vnto him, Knowest thou not that Baalis the King of the Ammonites hath sent Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah to slay thee? But Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam beleeued them not.
14 e lhe disseram: “Você sabia que Baalis, rei de Amom, enviou Ismael, filho de Netanias, para assassiná-lo?”. Gedalias, porém, não acreditou neles.
15 Then Iohanan the sonne of Kareah spake to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, Let me goe, I pray thee, and I will slay Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it. Wherefore should he kill thee, that all the Iewes, which are gathered vnto thee, shoulde be scattered, and the remnant in Iudah perish?
15 Mais tarde, Joanã falou com Gedalias em particular e se ofereceu para matar Ismael em segredo. “Por que deixar que ele venha e mate você?”, Joanã perguntou. “O que será, então, dos judeus que voltaram? Se isso acontecer, os poucos que restaram ficarão espalhados e perdidos.”
16 But Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam said vnto Iohanan the sonne of Kareah, Thou shalt not doe this thing: for thou speakest falsely of Ishmael.
16 Gedalias, porém, disse a Joanã: “Eu o proíbo de fazer isso, pois você está mentindo a respeito de Ismael”.
