1 Now these are the wordes of the booke that Ieremiah the Prophet sent from Ierusalem vnto the residue of the Elders which were caryed away captiues, and to the Priestes, and to the Prophets, and to all the people whome Nebuchad-nezzar had caried away captiue from Ierusalem to Babel:
1 Eu escrevi uma carta aos judeus que Nabucodonosor havia levado como prisioneiros de Jerusalém para a Babilônia: autoridades, sacerdotes, profetas e todo o povo.
2 (After that Ieconiah the King, and the Queene, and the eunuches, the princes of Iudah, and of Ierusalem, and the workemen, and cunning men were departed from Ierusalem)
2 Isso aconteceu depois de terem saído de Jerusalém o rei Joaquim, a sua mãe, os oficiais do palácio, as autoridades de Judá e de Jerusalém, os carpinteiros e os outros operários especializados.
3 By the hand of Elasah the sonne of Shaphan and Gemariah the sonne of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah King of Iudah sent vnto Babel to Nebuchad-nezzar King of Babel) saying,
3 O rei Zedequias, de Judá, mandou que Elasa, filho de Safã, e Gemarias, filho de Hilquias, levassem a carta ao rei Nabucodonosor, da Babilônia. Ela dizia:
4 Thus hath the Lord of hostes the God of Israel spoken vnto all that are caryed away captiues, whome I haue caused to be caryed away captiues from Ierusalem vnto Babel:
4 “O Senhor Todo-Poderoso, o Deus de Israel, diz o seguinte a todos os judeus que ele deixou Nabucodonosor levar como prisioneiros de Jerusalém para a Babilônia:
5 Buylde you houses to dwell in, and plant you gardens, and eate the fruites of them.
5 ‘Construam casas e morem nelas. Plantem árvores frutíferas e comam as suas frutas.
6 Take you wiues, and beget sonnes and daughters, and take wiues for your sonnes, and giue your daughters to husbands, that they may beare sonnes and daughters, that ye may bee increased there, and not diminished.
6 Casem e tenham filhos. E que os filhos casem e também tenham filhos. Vocês devem aumentar em número e não diminuir.
7 And seeke the prosperitie of the citie, whither I haue caused you to be caried away captiues, and pray vnto the Lord for it: for in the peace thereof shall you haue peace.
7 Trabalhem para o bem da cidade para onde eu os mandei como prisioneiros. Orem a mim, pedindo em favor dela, pois, se ela estiver bem, vocês também estarão.
8 For thus saith the Lord of hostes the God of Israel, Let not your prophets, and your southsayers that bee among you, deceiue you, neither giue eare to your dreames, which you dreame.
8 Eu, o Senhor Todo-Poderoso, o Deus de Israel, os estou avisando para que não se deixem enganar pelos profetas que vivem no meio de vocês nem por aqueles que dizem que podem adivinhar o futuro. Não deem atenção aos sonhos deles.
9 For they prophecie you a lie in my Name: I haue not sent them, saith the Lord.
9 Eles dizem mentiras em meu nome. Eu não os enviei. Eu, o Senhor , estou falando.’
10 But thus saith the Lord, That after seuentie yeeres be accomplished at Babel, I will visite you, and performe my good promise toward you, and cause you to returne to this place.
10 “O Senhor Deus diz ainda: ‘Quando os setenta anos da Babilônia passarem, eu mostrarei que me interesso por vocês e cumprirei a minha promessa de trazê-los de volta à pátria.
11 For I knowe the thoughtes, that I haue thought towards you, saith the Lord, euen the thoughtes of peace, and not of trouble, to giue you an ende, and your hope.
11 Só eu conheço os planos que tenho para vocês: prosperidade e não desgraça e um futuro cheio de esperança. Sou eu, o Senhor , quem está falando.
12 Then shall you crie vnto mee, and ye shall go and pray vnto me, and I will heare you,
12 Então vocês vão me chamar e orar a mim, e eu responderei.
13 And ye shall seeke mee and finde mee, because ye shall seeke mee with all your heart.
13 Vocês vão me procurar e me achar, pois vão me procurar com todo o coração.
14 And I wil be found of you, saith the Lord, and I will turne away your captiuitie, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places, whither I haue cast you, saith the Lord, and will bring you againe vnto the place, whence I caused you to be caryed away captiue.
14 Sim! Eu afirmo que vocês me encontrarão e que eu os levarei de volta à pátria. Eu os ajuntarei de todos os países e de todos os lugares por onde os espalhei. E levarei vocês de volta à terra de onde os tirei e levei como prisioneiros. Eu, o Senhor , estou falando.’
15 Because ye haue sayd, The Lord hath raised vs vp Prophets in Babel,
15 “Vocês dizem que o Senhor lhes deu profetas aí na Babilônia.
16 Therefore thus saith the Lord of the King, that sitteth vpon the throne of Dauid, and of all the people, that dwell in this citie, your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captiuitie:
16 Prestem atenção no que ele diz a respeito do rei que ocupa o trono de Davi e a respeito dos moradores de Jerusalém, isto é, dos parentes que não foram levados com vocês como prisioneiros.
17 Euen thus sayth the Lord of hostes, Beholde, I will sende vpon them the sworde, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figges, that cannot bee eaten, they are so naughtie.
17 O Senhor Todo-Poderoso diz: ‘Eu mandarei contra eles guerra, fome e doença; e farei com que sejam como figos estragados, ruins demais para serem comidos.
18 And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence: and I will make them a terror to all kingdomes of the earth, and a curse, and astonishment and an hissing, and a reproche among all the nations whither I haue cast them,
18 Eu os perseguirei com guerra, fome e doença; e as nações do mundo ficarão horrorizadas com o que virem. Em todos os lugares para onde eu os espalhar, as pessoas ficarão chocadas e horrorizadas com o que aconteceu com eles. Zombarão deles e usarão o seu nome para rogar pragas.
19 Because they haue not hearde my words, saith the Lord, which I sent vnto them by my seruantes the Prophetes, rising vp earely, and sending them, but yee woulde not heare, saith the Lord.
19 Isso acontecerá porque não obedeceram à mensagem que eu sempre lhes enviei por meio dos meus servos , os profetas. Eles não quiseram me ouvir.
20 Heare ye therefore the word of the Lord all ye of the captiuitie, whome I haue sent from Ierusalem to Babel.
20 Mas agora todos vocês, que eu deixei o rei da Babilônia levar de Jerusalém como prisioneiros, escutem o que eu, o Senhor , estou dizendo.’
21 Thus saith the Lord of hostes, the God of Israel, of Ahab the sonne of Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the sonne of Maaseiah, which prophecie lyes vnto you in my Name, Beholde, I will deliuer them into the hande of Nebuchad-nezzar King of Babel, and he shall slay them before your eyes.
21 “O Senhor Todo-Poderoso, o Deus de Israel, falou contra Acabe, filho de Colaías, e contra Zedequias, filho de Maaseias, que estão usando o nome de Deus para anunciar mentiras. Deus disse que os entregará nas mãos do rei Nabucodonosor, da Babilônia, e que este os mandará matar diante dos olhos de vocês.
22 And al they of the captiuitie of Iudah, that are in Babel, shall take vp this curse against them, and say, The Lord make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whome the King of Babel burnt in the fire,
22 Quando aqueles que foram levados como prisioneiros de Jerusalém para a Babilônia quiserem amaldiçoar alguém, vão dizer assim: ‘Que o Senhor Deus faça com você o que fez com Zedequias e Acabe, que foram assados vivos por ordem do rei da Babilônia!’
23 Because they haue committed vilenie in Israel, and haue committed adulterie with their neighbours wiues, and haue spoken lying words in my Name, which I haue not commanded them, euen I knowe it, and testifie it, saith the Lord.
23 Isso acontecerá com Zedequias e Acabe porque a sua conduta foi vergonhosa — cometeram adultério e, contra a vontade de Deus, contaram mentiras em seu nome. Deus sabe o que fizeram e é testemunha contra eles. O Senhor falou.” — Você enviou cartas em seu próprio nome a todo o povo de Jerusalém, a Sofonias, filho do sacerdote Maaseias, e a todos os outros sacerdotes. Nessas cartas, você dizia a Sofonias:
24 Thou shalt also speake to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying,

25 Thus speaketh the Lord of hostes, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy Name vnto all the people, that are at Ierusalem, and to Zephaniah the sonne of Maaseiah the Priest, and to all the Priests, saying,
25 — ausente —
26 The Lord hath made thee Priest for Iehoiada the Priest, that yee should bee officers in the House of the Lord, for euery man that raueth and maketh himselfe a Prophet, to put him in prison and in the stockes.
26 “O Senhor Deus o fez sacerdote em lugar de Joiada, e agora você é o chefe dos serviços do Templo. É seu dever mandar prender qualquer louco que quiser passar por profeta e pôr uma coleira de ferro no pescoço dele.
27 Nowe therefore why hast not thou reproued Ieremiah of Anathoth, which prophecieth vnto you?
27 Então, por que é que você não repreendeu Jeremias, da cidade de Anatote, que tem bancado o profeta no meio do povo?
28 For, for this cause hee sent vnto vs in Babel, saying, This captiuitie is long: buyld houses to dwell in, and plant gardens, and eate the fruites of them.
28 Jeremias deve ser repreendido porque mandou dizer aos prisioneiros na Babilônia que eles iam ficar ali por muito tempo e que por isso deviam construir casas, morar nelas, plantar árvores frutíferas e comer as suas frutas.”
29 And Zephaniah the Priest red this letter in the eares of Ieremiah the Prophet.
29 O sacerdote Sofonias leu esta carta para mim. Então o Senhor Deus me ordenou que mandasse a todos os prisioneiros na Babilônia a seguinte mensagem a respeito de Semaías: “Eu, o Senhor , castigarei Semaías e todos os seus descendentes. Eu não o enviei, mas ele falou com vocês como se fosse profeta e fez com que acreditassem em mentiras. Por isso, ele não terá descendentes no meio de vocês. Ele procurou levar o povo a se revoltar contra mim e por isso não viverá para ver as boas coisas que eu farei pelo meu povo. Eu, o Senhor , falei.”
30 Then came the worde of the Lord vnto Ieremiah, saying,

31 Send to all them of the captiuitie, saying, Thus saith the Lord of Shemaiah the Nehelamite, Because that Shemaiah hath prophecied vnto you, and I sent him not, and hee caused you to trust in a lye,
31 — ausente —
32 Therefore thus saieth the Lord, Behold, I wil visite Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seede: hee shall not haue a man to dwell among this people, neither shall he beholde the good, that I will doe for my people, sayth the Lord, because he hath spoken rebelliously against the Lord.
