1 Woe to the crowne of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim: for his glorious beautie shall be a fading flowre, which is vpon the head of the valley of them that be fat, and are ouercome with wine.
1 Ai da coroa pretensiosa dos embriagados de Efraim e da flor murcha que faz ostentação de seu ornato, dominando o vale fértil de homens vencidos pelo vinho.
2 Beholde, the Lord hath a mightie and strong hoste, like a tempest of haile, and a whirlewinde that ouerthroweth, like a tempest of mightie waters that ouerflowe, which throwe to the ground mightily.
2 Eis que vem, por ordem do Senhor, um homem forte e poderoso como chuva de pedras, um furacão destruidor. Como trombas de água que se abatem com violência, precipita {tudo} por terra.
3 They shall be troden vnder foote, euen the crowne and the pride of the drunkards of Ephraim.
3 Será pisada aos pés a coroa pretensiosa dos embriagados de Efraim,
4 For his glorious beautie shall be a fading floure, which is vpon the head of the valley of them that be fatte, and as the hastie fruite afore sommer, which when hee that looketh vpon it, seeth it, while it is in his hand, he eateth it.
4 e a flor murcha que faz ostentação de seu ornato, dominando o vale fértil. Será como o figo prematuro, antes do verão, que a gente vê, logo colhe, e apenas o tem na mão, já o devora.
5 In that day shall the Lord of hostes be for a crowne of glory, and for a diademe of beautie vnto the residue of his people:
5 Naquele dia o Senhor dos exércitos será uma coroa resplandecente, um diadema esplêndido para o resto do seu povo,
6 And for a spirite of iudgement to him that sitteth in iudgement, and for strength vnto them that turne away the battell to the gate.
6 um espírito de justiça para o juiz que faz parte do tribunal, e de valentia, para aqueles que rechaçam às portas o inimigo.
7 But they haue erred because of wine, and are out of the way by strong drinke: the priest and the prophet haue erred by strong drinke: they are swallowed vp with wine: they haue gone astraye through strong drinke: they faile in vision: they stumble in iudgement.
7 Mas também estes titubeiam sob o efeito do vinho, alucinados pela bebida; sacerdotes e profetas cambaleiam na bebedeira. Estão afogados no vinho, desnorteados pela bebida, perturbados em sua visão, vacilando em seus juízos.
8 For all their tables are full of filthy vomiting: no place is cleane.
8 Todas as mesas estão cobertas, de asqueroso vômito, não há sequer um lugar limpo.
9 Whome shall he teache knowledge? and whome shall he make to vnderstand the thinges that hee heareth? them that are weyned from the milke, and drawen from the breastes.
9 A quem pretende ele ensinar a sabedoria? A quem quer fazer compreender as revelações? A meninos apenas desmamados que acabam de deixar o seio?
10 For precept must be vpon precept, precept vpon precept, line vnto line, line vnto line, there a litle, and there a litle.
10 E ordem sobre ordem, ordem sobre ordem, norma sobre norma, norma sobre norma, ora para cá, ora para lá!
11 For with a stammering tongue and with a strange language shall he speake vnto this people.
11 Pois bem, será por gente que balbucia, será numa língua bárbara que o Senhor falará a esse povo!
12 Vnto whome hee saide, This is the rest: giue rest to him that is weary: and this is the refreshing, but they would not heare.
12 Por mais que se lhes dissesse: Eis o repouso, deixai repousar aquele que está fatigado, é o momento de estarem calmos, eles nada quiseram ouvir.
13 Therefore shall the worde of the Lord be vnto them precept vpon precept, precept vpon precept, line vnto line, line vnto line, there a litle and there a litle, that they may goe, and fall backward, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.
13 Por isso a palavra de Deus lhes vai dizer: Ordem sobre ordem, ordem sobre ordem, norma sobre norma, norma sobre norma, ora para cá, ora para lá! A fim de que caiam de costas e se despedacem, e sejam apanhados no laço e presos.
14 Wherefore, heare the worde of the Lord, ye scornefull men that rule this people, which is at Ierusalem.
14 Escutai, pois, gracejadores, a palavra do Senhor, vós que governais esse povo que está em Jerusalém.
15 Because ye haue said, We haue made a couenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement: though a scourge runne ouer, and passe through, it shall not come at vs: for we haue made falshood our refuge, and vnder vanitie are we hid,
15 Fizemos um pacto com a morte, dizeis vós, uma convenção com a morada dos mortos; a inundação passará sem atingir-nos porque fizemos da mentira um abrigo, e da perfídia um refúgio.
16 Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I will laye in Zion a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation. Hee that beleeueth, shall not make haste.
16 Por isso o Senhor Deus lhes diz: Eu coloquei em Sião uma pedra, um bloco escolhido, uma pedra angular preciosa, de base: quem confiar nela não tropeçará.
17 Iudgement also will I laye to the rule, and righteousnesse to the balance, and the haile shall sweepe away the vaine confidence, and the waters shall ouerflowe the secret place.
17 Tomarei o direito por fio de prumo e, por nível, a justiça. O granizo derrubará o abrigo da mentira, e as águas inundarão o refúgio ilusório.
18 And your couenant with death shalbe disanulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand: when a scourge shall runne ouer and passe through, then shall ye be trode downe by it.
18 Vosso pacto com a morte será quebrado, vosso entendimento com a morada dos mortos não subsistirá; quando a onda transbordante passar, sereis por ela esmagados.
19 When it passeth ouer, it shall take you away: for it shall passe through euery morning in the day, and in the night, and there shalbe onely feare to make you to vnderstand the hearing.
19 Cada vez que ela passar, arrebatar-vos-á, porque ela passará cada manhã {de dia e de noite}. E aí só haverá terror na interpretação de oráculos.
20 For the bed is streight that it can not suffice, and the couering narowe that one can not wrappe himselfe.
20 Porque o leito será muito curto para que alguém se deite nele, e o cobertor muito estreito para que alguém se cubra com ele.
21 For the Lord shall stand as in mount Perazim: hee shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his worke, his strage worke, and bring to passe his acte, his strange acte.
21 Porque o Senhor se levantará como no monte Perasim e fremirá como no vale de Gabaon para concluir sua obra, sua obra singular, para executar seu trabalho, seu trabalho inaudito.
22 Nowe therefore be no mockers, least your bondes increase: for I haue heard of the Lord of hostes a consumption, euen determined vpon the whole earth.
22 Assim, pois, cessai de zombar para que vossos grilhões não se apertem, porque eu ouvi uma sentença de ruína por ordem do Senhor dos exércitos {contra toda a terra}.
23 Hearken ye, and heare my voyce: hearken ye, and heare my speach.
23 Aplicai os ouvidos para ouvir minha voz, sede atentos para escutar minha palavra!
24 Doeth the plowe man plowe all the day, to sowe? doeth he open, and breake the clots of his ground?
24 Porventura o trabalhador trabalha sempre {para semear}? Cava e amanha incessantemente o seu terreno?
25 When he hath made it plaine, wil he not then sowe the fitches, and sowe cummin, and cast in wheat by measure, and the appointed barly and rye in their place?
25 Acaso, depois de ter aplainado a superfície, não espalhará aí a nigela e semeará o cominho? Ele lançará aí o trigo e a cevada, e a espelta a eito.
26 For his God doeth instruct him to haue discretion, and doeth teach him.
26 É o seu Deus quem o instruiu, quem lhe ensinou o costume.
27 For fitches shall not be threshed with a threshing instrument, neither shall a cart wheele be turned about vpon the cummin: but ye fitches are beaten out with a staffe, and cummin with a rod.
27 Pois não será necessário pisar a nigela com a grade, nem passar a roda do carro sobre o cominho; mas a nigela será batida com um pau e o cominho com a vara.
28 Bread corne when it is threshed, hee doeth not alway thresh it, neither doeth the wheele of his cart still make a noyse, neither will he breake it with the teeth thereof.
28 E preciso triturar o trigo? Não, não se bate indefinidamente. Uma vez que sobre ele passe a roda do carro, joeira-se sem triturá-lo.
29 This also commeth from the Lord of hostes, which is wonderfull in counsell, and excellent in workes.
29 Isso também vem do Senhor: admirável é seu conselho e alta a sua sabedoria.
