1 Then Haggai a Prophet and Zechariah the sonne of Iddo a Prophet prophecied vnto the Iewes that were in Iudah, and Ierusalem, in the name of the God of Israel, euen vnto them.
1 Ora, o profeta Ageu e o profeta Zacarias, filho de Ado, profetizaram aos judeus que estavam em Judá e em Jerusalém, em nome do Deus de Israel que estava com eles.
2 Then Zerubbabel the sonne of Shealtiel, and Ieshua the sonne of Iozadak arose, and began to builde the house of God at Ierusalem, and with them were the Prophetes of God, which helped them.
2 Então Zorobabel, filho de Salatiel, e Josué, filho de Josedec, retomaram a reconstrução do templo de Deus em Jerusalém com a ajuda e a assistência dos profetas de Deus.
3 At the same time came to them Tatnai, which was captaine beyonde the Riuer, and Shether-boznai and their companions, and sayd thus vnto them, Who hath giuen you commandement to buylde this house, and to lay the foundations of these walles?
3 Ao mesmo tempo, Tartanai, governador do lado oposto ao rio, Estarbuzanai e seus colegas vieram procurá-los e falaram-lhes assim: Quem vos deu autorização para reconstruir o templo e levantar suas paredes?
4 Then sayde we vnto them after this maner, What are the names of the men that buylde this buylding?
4 E acrescentaram: Quais são os nomes dos homens que trabalham nesse edifício?
5 But the eye of their God was vpon the Elders of the Iewes, that they coulde not cause them to cease, till the matter came to Darius: and then they answered by letters thereunto.
5 Mas Deus tinha os olhos voltados para os anciãos dos judeus, e ninguém os obrigou a interromper os trabalhos, até que chegasse o relatório a Dario a fim de que este respondesse por escrito sobre o assunto.
6 The copie of the letter, that Tatnai captaine beyond the Riuer, and Shether-boznai and his companions, Apharsechaie, (which were beyond the Riuer) sent vnto King Darius.
6 Cópia da carta que enviaram ao rei Dario, o governador Tatanai, da outra margem do rio, bem como Estarbuzanai e seus colegas de Artasaq, que também moravam na outra margem do rio.
7 They sent a letter vnto him, wherein it was written thus, VNTO DARIVS the king, all peace.
7 Enviaram-lhe um relatório no qual se lia o seguinte: Ao rei Dario prosperidade perfeita!
8 Be it knowen vnto the King, that we went into the prouince of Iudea, to the house of the great God, which is builded with great stones, and beames are layde in the walles, and this worke is wrought speedily, and prospereth in their hands.
8 Saiba o rei que fomos à província de Judá, à casa do grande Deus. Está ela sendo reconstruída com pedras enormes, e o madeiramento está já colocado nas paredes. Este trabalho está sendo executado com cuidado e progride nas suas mãos;
9 Then asked we those Elders, and sayd vnto them thus, Who hath giuen you commandement to buylde this house, and to lay the foundation of these walles?
9 por isso, interrogamos os anciãos: Quem vos deu autorização para reconstruir esse templo e levantar esses muros?
10 We asked their names also, that we might certifie thee, and that we might write the names of the men that were their rulers.
10 Perguntamos-lhes também os seus nomes para consigná-los aqui e fazê-los conhecidos de ti, pelo menos os que estão à testa deles.
11 But they answered vs thus, and sayd, We are the seruants of the God of heauen and earth, and buylde the house that was buylt of olde and many yeeres ago, which a great King of Israel builded, and founded it.
11 Responderam: Nós somos servos do Deus do céu e da terra; estamos reconstruindo o templo que há muitos anos fora construído e rematado por um grande rei de Israel.
12 But after that our fathers had prouoked the God of heauen vnto wrath, he gaue them ouer into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar King of Babel the Caldean, and he destroyed this house, and caryed the people away captiue vnto Babel.
12 Mas nossos pais caíram na ira do Deus do céu, o qual os entregou nas mãos de Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, o caldeu; este destruiu o templo e transportou o povo cativo para Babilônia.
13 But in the first yere of Cyrus King of Babel, King Cyrus made a decree to buylde this house of God.
13 Entretanto, no primeiro ano de Ciro, rei de Babilônia, o rei Ciro ordenou a reconstrução desta casa de Deus.
14 And the vessels of golde and siluer of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar tooke out of the Temple, that was in Ierusalem, and brought them into the Temple of Babel, those did Cyrus the king take out of the Temple of Babel, and they gaue them vnto one Sheshbazzar by his name, whome he had made captaine.
14 E o próprio rei Ciro retirou do templo de Babilônia os utensílios de ouro e de prata da casa de Deus, que Nabucodonosor tomara do santuário de Jerusalém e transferira para o templo de Babilônia. Foram entregues a um homem chamado Sassabasar, o qual nomeou governador.
15 And he sayde vnto him, Take these vessels and goe thy way, and put them in the Temple that is in Ierusalem, and let the house of God be buylt in his place.
15 E disse-lhe: Toma estes utensílios; leva-os para o templo de Jerusalém; e que a casa de Deus seja reconstruída sobre os seus alicerces.
16 Then came the same Sheshbazzar and layde the foundation of the house of God, which is in Ierusalem, and since that time euen vntill nowe, hath it bene in buylding, yet is it not finished.
16 Foi então que aquele Sassabasar veio para aqui e colocou os fundamentos da casa de Deus em Jerusalém; depois do que, até o presente, temos prosseguido a construção, mas não está ainda terminada.
17 Nowe therefore if it please the King, let there be searche made in the house of the Kings treasures, which is there in Babel, whether a decree hath bene made by King Cyrus, to build this house of God in Ierusalem, and let the King send his minde concerning this.
17 Portanto, se o rei acha conveniente que sejam feitas investigações nos arquivos do rei em Babilônia, para ver se é verdade que foi ordenada pelo rei Ciro a reconstrução do templo de Deus em Jerusalém, que o faça e, em seguida, queira o rei transmitir-nos a sua decisão a respeito.
