1 In the second yeere of King Darius, in the sixt moneth, the first day of the moneth, came ye worde of the Lord (by the ministery of the Prophet Haggai) vnto Zerubbabel the sonne of Shealtiel, a prince of Iudah, and to Iehoshua the sonne of Iehozadak the hie Priest, saying,
1 No segundo ano do rei Dario, no sexto mês, no primeiro dia do mês, veio a palavra do Senhor , por intermédio do profeta Ageu, a Zorobabel, filho de Salatiel, governador de Judá, e a Josué, filho de Jozadaque, o sumo sacerdote, dizendo:
2 Thus speaketh the Lord of hostes, saying, This people say, The time is not yet come, that the Lords House should be builded.
2 Assim fala o Senhor dos Exércitos: Este povo diz: Não veio ainda o tempo, o tempo em que a Casa do Senhor deve ser edificada.
3 Then came the worde of the Lord by the ministerie of the Prophet Haggai, saying,
3 Veio, pois, a palavra do Senhor , por intermédio do profeta Ageu, dizendo:
4 Is it time for your selues to dwell in your sieled houses, and this House lie waste?
4 Acaso, é tempo de habitardes vós em casas apaineladas, enquanto esta casa permanece em ruínas?
5 Now therefore thus saith ye Lord of hostes, Consider your owne wayes in your hearts.
5 Ora, pois, assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: Considerai o vosso passado.
6 Ye haue sowen much, and bring in litle: ye eate, but ye haue not ynough: ye drinke, but ye are not filled: ye clothe you, but ye be not warme: and he that earneth wages, putteth the wages into a broken bagge.
6 Tendes semeado muito e recolhido pouco; comeis, mas não chega para fartar-vos; bebeis, mas não dá para saciar-vos; vestis-vos, mas ninguém se aquece; e o que recebe salário, recebe-o para pô-lo num saquitel furado.
7 Thus sayth the Lord of hostes, Consider your owne wayes in your hearts.
7 Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: Considerai o vosso passado.
8 Goe vp to the mountaine, and bring wood, and build this House, and I wil be fauourable in it, and I will be glorified, sayth the Lord.
8 Subi ao monte, trazei madeira e edificai a casa; dela me agradarei e serei glorificado, diz o Senhor .
9 Ye looked for much, and lo, it came to litle: and when ye brought it home, I did blowe vpon it. And why, sayth the Lord of hostes? Because of mine House that is waste, and ye runne euery man vnto his owne house.
9 Esperastes o muito, e eis que veio a ser pouco, e esse pouco, quando o trouxestes para casa, eu com um assopro o dissipei. Por quê? — diz o Senhor dos Exércitos; por causa da minha casa, que permanece em ruínas, ao passo que cada um de vós corre por causa de sua própria casa.
10 Therefore the heauen ouer you stayed it selfe from dewe, and the earth stayed her fruite.
10 Por isso, os céus sobre vós retêm o seu orvalho, e a terra, os seus frutos.
11 And I called for a drought vpon the land, and vpon the mountaines, and vpon the corne, and vpon the wine, and vpon the oyle, vpon all that the ground bringeth foorth: both vpon men and vpon cattell, and vpon all the labour of the hands.
11 Fiz vir a seca sobre a terra e sobre os montes; sobre o cereal, sobre o vinho, sobre o azeite e sobre o que a terra produz, como também sobre os homens, sobre os animais e sobre todo trabalho das mãos.
12 When Zerubbabel the sonne of Shealtiel, and Iehoshua the sonne of Iehozadak the hie Priest with all the remnant of the people, heard the voyce of the Lord their God, and the wordes of the Prophet Haggai (as the Lord their God had sent him) then the people did feare before the Lord.
12 Então, Zorobabel, filho de Salatiel, e Josué, filho de Jozadaque, o sumo sacerdote, e todo o resto do povo atenderam à voz do Senhor , seu Deus, e às palavras do profeta Ageu, as quais o Senhor , seu Deus, o tinha mandado dizer; e o povo temeu diante do Senhor .
13 Then spake Haggai the Lords messenger in the Lords message vnto the people, saying, I am with you, sayth the Lord.
13 Então, Ageu, o enviado do Senhor , falou ao povo, segundo a mensagem do Senhor , dizendo: Eu sou convosco, diz o Senhor .
14 And the Lord stirred vp the spirite of Zerubbabel, the sonne of Shealtiel a prince of Iudah, and the spirit of Iehoshua the sonne of Iehozadak the hie Priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people, and they came, and did the worke in the House of the Lord of hostes their God.
14 O Senhor despertou o espírito de Zorobabel, filho de Salatiel, governador de Judá, e o espírito de Josué, filho de Jozadaque, o sumo sacerdote, e o espírito do resto de todo o povo; eles vieram e se puseram ao trabalho na Casa do Senhor dos Exércitos, seu Deus,

15 ao vigésimo quarto dia do sexto mês.
