1 Nowe Iehoram the sonne of Ahab beganne to reigne ouer Israel in Samaria, the eighteenth yeere of Iehoshaphat King of Iudah, and reigned twelue yeeres.
1 Jorão, filho de Acabe, tornou-se rei de Israel em Samaria no décimo oitavo ano de Josafá, rei de Judá, e reinou doze anos.
2 And he wrought euill in the sight of the Lord, but not like his father nor like his mother: for he tooke away the image of Baal that his father had made.
2 Fez o que o Senhor reprova, mas não como seu pai e sua mãe, pois derrubou a coluna sagrada de Baal, que seu pai havia feito.
3 Neuerthelesse, he cleaued vnto the sinnes of Ieroboam, the sonne of Nebat, which made Israel to sinne, and departed not therefrom.
3 No entanto, persistiu nos pecados que Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, levara Israel a cometer e deles não se afastou.
4 Then Mesha King of Moab had store of sheepe, and rendred vnto the King of Israel an hundreth thousande lambes, and an hundreth thousande rammes with the wooll.
4 Ora, Messa, rei de Moabe, tinha muitos rebanhos e pagava como tributo ao rei de Israel cem mil cordeiros e a lã de cem mil carneiros.
5 But when Ahab was dead, the king of Moab rebelled against the King of Israel.
5 Mas, depois que Acabe morreu, o rei de Moabe rebelou-se contra o rei de Israel.
6 Therefore King Iehoram went out of Samaria the same season, and nombred all Israel,
6 E, naquela ocasião, o rei Jorão partiu de Samaria e mobilizou todo Israel.
7 And went, and sent to Iehoshaphat King of Iudah, saying, The King of Moab hath rebelled against me: wilt thou goe with me to battell against Moab? And he answered, I will goe vp: for I am, as thou art, my people, as thy people, and mine horses as thine horses.
7 Também enviou esta mensagem a Josafá, rei de Judá: "O rei de Moabe rebelou-se contra mim. Irás acompanhar-me na luta contra Moabe? " Ele respondeu: "Sim, eu irei. Serei teu aliado, os meus soldados e os teus, os meus cavalos e os teus serão um só exército".
8 Then said he, What way shall we goe vp? And he answered, The way of the wildernesse of Edom.
8 E perguntou: "Por qual caminho atacaremos? " Respondeu Jorão: "Pelo deserto de Edom".
9 So went the King of Israel and the king of Iudah, and the King of Edom, and when they had compassed the way seuen dayes, they had no water for the hoste, nor for the cattell that followed them.
9 Então o rei de Israel partiu com os reis de Judá e de Edom. Depois de uma marcha de sete dias, já havia acabado a água para os homens e para os animais.
10 Therefore the King of Israel sayde, Alas, that the Lord hath called these three Kings, to giue them into the hand of Moab.
10 Exclamou, então, o rei de Israel: "E agora? Será que o Senhor ajuntou a nós, os três reis, para nos entregar nas mãos de Moabe? "
11 But Iehoshaphat saide, Is there not here a Prophet of the Lord, that we may inquire of the Lord by him? And one of the King of Israels seruants answered, and said, Here is Elisha the sonne of Shaphat, which powred water on the handes of Eliiah.
11 Mas Josafá perguntou: "Será que não há aqui profeta do Senhor, para que possamos consultar o Senhor por meio dele? " Um conselheiro do rei de Israel respondeu: "Eliseu, filho de Safate, está aqui. Ele era auxiliar de Elias".
12 Then Iehoshaphat saide, The worde of the Lord is with him. Therefore the King of Israel, and Iehoshaphat, and the King of Edom went downe to him.
12 Josafá prosseguiu: "A palavra do Senhor está com ele". Então o rei de Israel, Josafá e o rei de Edom foram falar com ele.
13 And Elisha sayde vnto the King of Israel, What haue I to doe with thee? get thee to the prophets of thy father and to the prophets of thy mother. And the King of Israel saide vnto him, Nay: for the Lord hath called these three Kings, to giue them into the hande of Moab.
13 Eliseu disse ao rei de Israel: "Nada tenho a ver com você. Vá consultar os profetas de seu pai e de sua mãe". Mas o rei de Israel insistiu: "Não, pois foi o Senhor que ajuntou a nós, estes três reis, para entregar-nos nas mãos de Moabe".
14 Then Elisha said, As the Lord of hostes liueth, in whose sight I stande, if it were not, that I regarde the presence of Iehoshaphat the King of Iudah, I woulde not haue looked towarde thee, nor seene thee.
14 Então Eliseu disse: "Juro pelo nome do Senhor dos Exércitos, a quem sirvo, que se não fosse por respeito a Josafá, rei de Judá, eu não olharia para você nem mesmo lhe daria atenção.
15 But nowe bring me a minstrel. And when the minstrel played, the hand of the Lord came vpon him.
15 Mas agora tragam-me um harpista". Enquanto o harpista estava tocando, o poder do Senhor veio sobre Eliseu,
16 And he saide, Thus saith the Lord, Make this valley full of ditches.
16 e ele disse: "Assim diz o Senhor: Cavem muitas cisternas neste vale.
17 For thus saith the Lord, Ye shall neither see winde nor see raine, yet the valley shalbe filled with water, that ye may drinke, both ye and your cattel, and your beastes.
17 Pois assim diz o Senhor: Vocês não verão vento nem chuva, contudo este vale ficará cheio de água, e vocês, seus rebanhos e seus outros animais beberão.
18 But this is a small thing in the sight of the Lord: for he will giue Moab into your hande.
18 Mas para o Senhor isso ainda é pouco; ele também lhes entregará Moabe nas suas mãos.
19 And ye shall smite euery strong towne and euery chiefe citie, and shall fell euery faire tree, and shall stoppe all the fountaines of water, and marre euery good fielde with stones.
19 Vocês destruirão todas as cidades fortificadas e todas as cidades importantes. Derrubarão toda árvore frutífera, taparão todas as fontes e encherão de pedras todas as terras de cultivo".
20 And in the morning whe the meat offring was offred, beholde, there came water by the way of Edom: and the countrey was filled with water.
20 No dia seguinte, na hora do sacrifício da manhã, a água veio descendo da direção de Edom e alagou a região.
21 And when al the Moabites heard that the Kings were come vp to fight against them, they gathered all that was able to put on harnesse, and vpwarde, and stood in their border.
21 Quando os moabitas ficaram sabendo que os reis tinham vindo para atacá-los, todos os que eram capazes de empunhar armas, do mais jovem ao mais velho, foram convocados e posicionaram-se na fronteira.
22 And they rose earely in the morning, when the sunne arose vpon the water, and the Moabites saw the water ouer against them, as red as blood.
22 Ao se levantarem na manhã seguinte, o sol refletia na água. Para os moabitas que estavam defronte dela, a água era vermelha como sangue.
23 And they saide, This is blood the Kings are surely slaine, and one hath smitten another: now therefore, Moab, to the spoyle.
23 Então gritaram: "É sangue! Os reis lutaram entre si e se mataram. Agora, ao saque, Moabe! "
24 And when they came to the host of Israel, the Israelites arose vp, and smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them, but they inuaded them, and smote Moab.
24 Quando, porém, os moabitas chegaram ao acampamento de Israel, os israelitas os atacaram e os puseram em fuga. Entraram no território de Moabe e o arrasaram.
25 And they destroyed the cities: and on all the good field euery man cast his stone, and filled them and they stopt all the fountaines of water, and felled all the good trees: onely in Kirharaseth left they the stones thereof: howebeit they went about it with slings, and smote it.
25 Destruíram as cidades, e quando passavam por um campo cultivável cada homem atirava uma pedra até que ficasse coberto. Taparam todas as fontes e derrubaram toda árvore frutífera. Só Quir-Haresete ficou com as pedras no lugar, mas homens armados de atiradeiras a cercaram e também a atacaram.
26 And when the King of Moab saw that the battel was too sore for him, he tooke with him seuen hudreth men that drew the sword, to break through vnto the King of Edom: but they could not.
26 Quando o rei de Moabe viu que estava perdendo a batalha, reuniu setecentos homens armados de espadas para forçar a passagem, para alcançar o rei de Edom, mas fracassou.
27 Then he tooke his eldest sonne, that should haue reigned in his stead, and offered him for a burnt offring vpon the wall: so that Israel was sore grieued, and they departed from him, and returned to their countrey.
27 Então pegou seu filho mais velho, que devia sucedê-lo como rei, e o sacrificou sobre o muro da cidade. Isso trouxe grande ira contra Israel, de modo que eles se retiraram e voltaram para sua própria terra.
