1 Nowe Iehoram the sonne of Ahab beganne to reigne ouer Israel in Samaria, the eighteenth yeere of Iehoshaphat King of Iudah, and reigned twelue yeeres.
1 No ano dezoito do reinado de Josafá, de Judá, Jorão, filho de Acabe, se tornou rei de Israel e governou doze anos em Samaria.
2 And he wrought euill in the sight of the Lord, but not like his father nor like his mother: for he tooke away the image of Baal that his father had made.
2 Ele pecou contra Deus, o Senhor , porém não foi como o seu pai ou a sua mãe Jezabel. Jorão derrubou a coluna do deus Baal que o seu pai havia mandado levantar.
3 Neuerthelesse, he cleaued vnto the sinnes of Ieroboam, the sonne of Nebat, which made Israel to sinne, and departed not therefrom.
3 No entanto, como o rei Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, havia feito antes dele, Jorão levou o povo de Israel a cometer os mesmos pecados, sem parar.
4 Then Mesha King of Moab had store of sheepe, and rendred vnto the King of Israel an hundreth thousande lambes, and an hundreth thousande rammes with the wooll.
4 O rei Mesa, do país de Moabe, criava carneiros e todos os anos entregava como imposto ao rei de Israel cem mil carneirinhos e a lã de cem mil carneiros.
5 But when Ahab was dead, the king of Moab rebelled against the King of Israel.
5 Porém, quando o rei Acabe morreu, Mesa se revoltou contra Israel.
6 Therefore King Iehoram went out of Samaria the same season, and nombred all Israel,
6 Por isso, o rei Jorão saiu imediatamente de Samaria e reuniu todo o seu exército.
7 And went, and sent to Iehoshaphat King of Iudah, saying, The King of Moab hath rebelled against me: wilt thou goe with me to battell against Moab? And he answered, I will goe vp: for I am, as thou art, my people, as thy people, and mine horses as thine horses.
7 Ele mandou ao rei Josafá, de Judá, o seguinte recado: — O rei de Moabe se revoltou contra mim. Você quer ir comigo guerrear contra Moabe? O rei Josafá respondeu: — Eu irei. Estou às suas ordens, e assim também os meus soldados e os meus cavalos.
8 Then said he, What way shall we goe vp? And he answered, The way of the wildernesse of Edom.
8 Que caminho pegaremos para o ataque? — Nós iremos pelo caminho do deserto de Edom! — disse Jorão.
9 So went the King of Israel and the king of Iudah, and the King of Edom, and when they had compassed the way seuen dayes, they had no water for the hoste, nor for the cattell that followed them.
9 E assim o rei Jorão, o rei de Edom e o rei de Judá partiram e marcharam sete dias. Então a água acabou, e não havia água nem para os homens nem para os animais de carga.
10 Therefore the King of Israel sayde, Alas, that the Lord hath called these three Kings, to giue them into the hand of Moab.
10 Aí o rei Jorão exclamou: — Estamos perdidos! O
11 But Iehoshaphat saide, Is there not here a Prophet of the Lord, that we may inquire of the Lord by him? And one of the King of Israels seruants answered, and said, Here is Elisha the sonne of Shaphat, which powred water on the handes of Eliiah.
11 O rei Josafá perguntou: — Existe por aqui algum Um oficial do exército do rei Jorão respondeu: — Eliseu, filho de Safate, está por aí. Ele era o ajudante de Elias.
12 Then Iehoshaphat saide, The worde of the Lord is with him. Therefore the King of Israel, and Iehoshaphat, and the King of Edom went downe to him.
12 — Ele é profeta e diz o que o Senhor manda! — disse o rei Josafá. Então os três reis foram falar com Eliseu.
13 And Elisha sayde vnto the King of Israel, What haue I to doe with thee? get thee to the prophets of thy father and to the prophets of thy mother. And the King of Israel saide vnto him, Nay: for the Lord hath called these three Kings, to giue them into the hande of Moab.
13 Mas ele disse ao rei de Israel: — O que é que eu tenho com isso? Vá falar com os profetas que o seu pai e a sua mãe consultavam! Jorão disse: — Não, pois foi o
14 Then Elisha said, As the Lord of hostes liueth, in whose sight I stande, if it were not, that I regarde the presence of Iehoshaphat the King of Iudah, I woulde not haue looked towarde thee, nor seene thee.
14 Eliseu disse: — Juro pelo Deus vivo, o
15 But nowe bring me a minstrel. And when the minstrel played, the hand of the Lord came vpon him.
15 Agora me tragam um músico. Enquanto o músico tocava
16 And he saide, Thus saith the Lord, Make this valley full of ditches.
16 e ele disse: — O que o
17 For thus saith the Lord, Ye shall neither see winde nor see raine, yet the valley shalbe filled with water, that ye may drinke, both ye and your cattel, and your beastes.
17 Pois vocês não vão ver chuva nem vento, mas mesmo assim o leito deste ribeirão vai se encher de água. E vocês, o seu gado e os seus animais de carga terão muita água para beber.”
18 But this is a small thing in the sight of the Lord: for he will giue Moab into your hande.
18 E Eliseu continuou: — E para o
19 And ye shall smite euery strong towne and euery chiefe citie, and shall fell euery faire tree, and shall stoppe all the fountaines of water, and marre euery good fielde with stones.
19 Os senhores conquistarão todas as melhores cidades deles e as cidades cercadas de muralhas, cortarão todas as suas árvores frutíferas, taparão todas as suas fontes de água e estragarão todas as suas terras de plantação, cobrindo-as de pedras.
20 And in the morning whe the meat offring was offred, beholde, there came water by the way of Edom: and the countrey was filled with water.
20 No dia seguinte, na hora do sacrifício da manhã, a água veio correndo da direção de Edom e cobriu o chão.
21 And when al the Moabites heard that the Kings were come vp to fight against them, they gathered all that was able to put on harnesse, and vpwarde, and stood in their border.
21 Os moabitas ficaram sabendo que os três reis tinham vindo atacá-los. Então todos os homens que podiam lutar, tanto os mais velhos como os mais moços, foram chamados e ficaram na fronteira.
22 And they rose earely in the morning, when the sunne arose vpon the water, and the Moabites saw the water ouer against them, as red as blood.
22 Quando eles se levantaram na manhã seguinte, o sol estava brilhando na água, fazendo com que ela parecesse vermelha como sangue.
23 And they saide, This is blood the Kings are surely slaine, and one hath smitten another: now therefore, Moab, to the spoyle.
23 Então gritaram: — Aquilo é sangue! Com certeza os três reis lutaram entre si e mataram uns aos outros! Vamos pegar tudo o que eles deixaram no acampamento!
24 And when they came to the host of Israel, the Israelites arose vp, and smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them, but they inuaded them, and smote Moab.
24 Porém, quando os moabitas chegaram ao acampamento, os israelitas os atacaram e os fizeram fugir. Os israelitas perseguiram os moabitas, matando-os
25 And they destroyed the cities: and on all the good field euery man cast his stone, and filled them and they stopt all the fountaines of water, and felled all the good trees: onely in Kirharaseth left they the stones thereof: howebeit they went about it with slings, and smote it.
25 e destruindo as suas cidades. Conforme iam passando por um terreno de plantação, cada israelita jogava uma pedra nele, até que finalmente todos os campos estavam cobertos de pedras. Eles também taparam as fontes e cortaram as árvores frutíferas. No fim, somente a capital, a cidade de Quir-Heres, ficou faltando; mas os atiradores de funda a cercaram e atacaram.
26 And when the King of Moab saw that the battel was too sore for him, he tooke with him seuen hudreth men that drew the sword, to break through vnto the King of Edom: but they could not.
26 O rei de Moabe percebeu que estava perdendo a batalha. Então, com setecentos soldados armados com espadas, tentou forçar passagem através das linhas inimigas a fim de fugir para perto do rei da Síria. Porém não conseguiu.
27 Then he tooke his eldest sonne, that should haue reigned in his stead, and offered him for a burnt offring vpon the wall: so that Israel was sore grieued, and they departed from him, and returned to their countrey.
27 Então pegou o seu filho mais velho, que iria ficar no lugar dele como rei, e o ofereceu em sacrifício ao deus de Moabe, nas muralhas da cidade. Os israelitas ficaram apavorados e por isso saíram dali e voltaram para o seu país.
