1 And when Rehoboam was come to Ierusalem, he gathered of the house of Iudah and Beniamin nine score thousande chosen men of warre to fight against Israel, and to bring the kingdome againe to Rehoboam.
1 De volta a Jerusalém, Roboão mobilizou as tribos de Judá e de Benjamim, em número de cento e oitenta mil guerreiros escolhidos, para atacar a casa de Israel e reintegrá-la ao reino de Roboão.
2 But the worde of the Lord came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
2 Mas a palavra do Senhor foi dirigida ao homem de Deus, Semaías, nestes termos:
3 Speake vnto Rehoboam, the sonne of Salomon King of Iudah, and to all Israel that are in Iudah, and Beniamin, saying,
3 Dirige-te a Roboão, filho de Salomão, rei de Judá, e a todos os de Israel que habitam em Judá e Benjamim.
4 Thus sayth the Lord, Ye shall not goe vp, nor fight against your brethren: returne euery man to his house: for this thing is done of me. They obeyed therfore the word of the Lord, and returned from going against Ieroboam.
4 Dize-lhes: Eis o que diz o Senhor: De modo algum ireis fazer guerra a vossos irmãos. Voltai cada qual para sua casa, pois é por mim que esses acontecimentos se realizaram. Dóceis à palavra do Senhor, renunciaram a atacar Jeroboão, e voltaram.
5 And Rehoboam dwelt in Ierusalem, and buylt strong cities in Iudah.
5 Roboão ficou, portanto, em Jerusalém. Construiu cidades fortes no território de Judá.
6 Hee buylt also Beth-lehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,
6 Construiu Belém, Etão, Técua,
7 And Beth-zur, and Shoco, and Adullam,
7 Betsur, Odolão,
8 And Gath, and Maresha, and Ziph,
8 Get, Maresa, Zif,
9 And Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,
9 Adurão, Laquis, Azeca,
10 And Zorah, and Aialon, and Hebron, which were in Iudah and Beniamin, strong cities.
10 Saraa, Aialon e Hebron, todas cidades fortificadas, situadas em Judá e Benjamim.
11 And he repaired the strong holdes and put captaines in them, and store of vitaile, and oyle and wine.
11 Fortificou esses lugares, nomeou para eles governadores e neles estabeleceu depósitos de víveres, óleo e vinho.
12 And in all cities he put shieldes and speares, and made them exceeding strong: so Iudah and Beniamin were his.
12 Fez em cada cidade um arsenal de escudos e de lanças, fazendo delas verdadeiras praças fortes. Judá e Benjamim ficavam-lhe, portanto, fiéis.
13 And the Priests and the Leuites that were in all Israel, resorted vnto him out of all their coastes.
13 Os sacerdotes e levitas que habitavam no território de Israel vieram de todas as partes aderir ao seu partido.
14 For the Leuites left their suburbes and their possession, and came to Iudah and to Ierusalem: for Ieroboam and his sonnes had cast them out from ministring in the Priestes office vnto the Lord.
14 Os levitas abandonaram suas terras e suas propriedades para irem habitar em Judá ou em Jerusalém, porque Jeroboão e seus filhos os tinham destituído de sua função de sacerdotes do Senhor.
15 And he ordeyned him Priests for the hie places, and for the deuils and for the calues which he had made.
15 Jeroboão, com efeito, nomeara sacerdotes para os lugares altos, para o culto dos bodes e dos touros que tinha feito.
16 And after the Leuites there came to Ierusalem of all the tribes of Israel, such as set their heartes to seeke the Lord God of Israel, to offer vnto the Lord God of their fathers.
16 Após os levitas, todos aqueles das tribos de Israel que procuravam de coração o Senhor, Deus de Israel, foram a Jerusalém para oferecer seus sacrifícios ao Senhor, o Deus de seus pais.
17 So they strengthened the kingdome of Iudah, and made Rehoboam the sonne of Salomon mightie, three yeere long: for three yeere they walked in in the way of Dauid and Salomon.
17 Vieram assim reforçar o reino de Judá, e reafirmar o poder de Roboão, filho de Salomão. Isso durou três anos, pois durante um triênio seguiram o roteiro traçado por Davi e Salomão.
18 And Rehoboam tooke him Mahalath ye daughter of Ierimoth the sonne of Dauid to wife, and Abihail the daughter of Eliab the sonne of Ishai,
18 Roboão tomou por esposas Maalat, filha de Jerimot, filho de Davi, {e} Abiai, filha de Eliab, filho de Isaí.
19 Which bare him sonnes Ieush, and Shemariah, and Zaham.
19 Esta lhe deu à luz os filhos: Jeus, Somoria e Zom.
20 And after her he tooke Maakah ye daughter of Absalom which bare him Abiiah, and Atthai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.
20 Depois dela, tomou por esposa Maaca, filha de Absalão, que lhe deu Abia, Etaí, Ziza e Salomit.
21 And Rehoboam loued Maakah ye daughter of Absalom aboue all his wiues and his concubines: for he tooke eighteene wiues, and three score concubines, and begate eyght and twentie sonnes, and three score daughters.
21 Dentre todas as suas mulheres e concubinas, Roboão teve mais predileção por Maaca, filha de Absalão. Teve dezoito mulheres e sessenta concubinas; e gerou vinte e oito filhos e sessenta filhas.
22 And Rehoboam made Abiiah the sonne of Maakah the chiefe ruler among his brethren: for he thought to make him King.
22 Deu o primeiro lugar a Abia, filho de Maaca, na qualidade de chefe de seus irmãos, pois ele o destinava ao reino.
23 And he taught him: and dispersed all his sonnes throughout all the countreis of Iudah and Beniamin vnto euery strong citie: and hee gaue them aboundance of vitaile, and desired many wiues.
23 Teve muita habilidade para distribuir todos os seus filhos pelas praças fortes, pelas diversas regiões de Judá e de Benjamim; assegurou-lhes uma pensão copiosa, e deu-lhes muitas mulheres.
