1 And Dauid went thence, and dwelt in holdes at En-gedi.
1 Depois que Saul voltou da luta contra os filisteus, foi informado de que Davi tinha ido para o deserto de En-Gedi.
2 When Saul was turned from ye Philistims, they told him, saying, Behold, Dauid is in the wildernes of En-gedi.
2 Então Saul escolheu três mil dos melhores soldados de todo o Israel e foi à procura de Davi e seus homens perto das rochas onde viviam cabras selvagens.
3 Then Saul tooke three thousande chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seeke Dauid and his men vpon the rocks among the wilde goates.
3 No lugar onde a estrada passava por alguns currais, Saul entrou numa caverna para fazer suas necessidades. Aconteceu, porém, que Davi e seus homens estavam escondidos no fundo daquela mesma caverna.
4 And hee came to the sheepecoates by the way where there was a caue, and Saul went in to do his easement: and Dauid and his men sate in the inward parts of the caue.
4 “É sua oportunidade!”, disseram os homens de Davi para ele. “Hoje o S enhor lhe diz: ‘Certamente entregarei o inimigo em suas mãos, para que faça com ele o que quiser’.” Então, com todo cuidado, Davi se aproximou e cortou um pedaço da borda do manto de Saul.
5 And the men of Dauid said vnto him, See, the day is come, whereof the Lord sayde vnto thee, Beholde, I will deliuer thine enemie into thine hande, and thou shalt doe to him as it shall seeme good to thee. Then Dauid arose and cut off the lap of Sauls garment priuily.
5 Sua consciência, porém, começou a perturbá-lo por ter cortado a borda do manto de Saul.
6 And afterward Dauid was touched in his heart, because he had cut off the lappe which was on Sauls garment.
6 Por isso, disse a seus homens: “Que o S enhor me livre de fazer tal coisa a meu senhor, o ungido do S enhor , e atacar aquele que o S enhor ungiu como rei”.
7 And he said vnto his men, The Lord keepe mee from doing that thing vnto my master the Lords Anoynted, to lay mine hand vpon him: for he is the Anoynted of the Lord.
7 Assim, Davi conteve seus homens e não deixou que matassem Saul. Depois que Saul deixou a caverna para seguir seu caminho,
8 So Dauid ouercame his seruants with these words, and suffered them not to arise against Saul: so Saul rose vp out of the caue and went away.
8 Davi saiu e gritou para ele: “Ó meu senhor, o rei!”. E, quando Saul olhou para trás, Davi se curvou com o rosto em terra.
9 Dauid also arose afterward, and went out of the caue, and cryed after Saul, saying, O my lorde the King. And when Saul looked behinde him, Dauid inclined his face to the earth, and bowed himselfe.
9 Então ele gritou para Saul: “Por que o senhor dá ouvidos àqueles que dizem que eu procuro lhe fazer mal?
10 And Dauid saide to Saul, Wherefore giuest thou an eare to mens words, that say, Behold, Dauid seeketh euill against thee?
10 Hoje mesmo o rei pode ver com os próprios olhos que isso não é verdade. O S enhor o entregou em minhas mãos na caverna. Alguns de meus homens me disseram que o matasse, mas eu o poupei, pois disse: ‘Jamais farei mal ao rei, pois ele é o ungido do S enhor ’.
11 Behold, this day thine eyes haue seene, that the Lord had deliuered thee this day into mine hand in the caue, and some bade me kill thee, but I had compassion on thee, and said, I will not lay mine hande on my master: for he is the Lordes Anoynted.
11 Veja, meu pai, o que tenho em minha mão. É um pedaço da borda do seu manto! Cortei seu manto, mas não matei o rei. Isso prova que não procuro lhe fazer mal e que não me rebelei nem pequei contra o rei, embora esteja me perseguindo para me matar.
12 Moreouer my father, behold: behold, I say, the lappe of thy garment in mine hand: for when I cut off the lappe of thy garment, I killed thee not. Vnderstad and see, that there is neither euil nor wickednesse in mee, neither haue I sinned against thee, yet thou huntest after my soule to take it.
12 “Que o S enhor julgue entre nós dois. Talvez o S enhor castigue o rei por aquilo que procura fazer contra mim, mas eu jamais lhe farei mal.
13 The Lord be iudge betweene thee and me, and the Lord auenge me of thee, and let not mine hand be vpon thee.
13 Como diz o antigo provérbio: ‘De pessoas perversas vêm atos perversos’, por isso o rei pode estar certo de que eu jamais lhe farei mal.
14 According as the olde prouerbe sayeth, Wickednesse proceedeth from the wicked, but mine hand be not vpon thee.
14 Afinal de contas, a quem o rei de Israel procura capturar? A quem persegue? A um cão morto? A uma pulga?
15 After whom is the King of Israel come out? after whome doest thou pursue? after a dead dog, and after a flea?
15 Que o S enhor julgue entre nós dois e mostre quem está certo! Que ele seja meu defensor e me livre de suas mãos!”.
16 The Lord therfore be iudge, and iudge betweene thee and me, and see, and pleade my cause, and deliuer me out of thine hand.
16 Quando Davi terminou de falar, Saul respondeu: “É você mesmo, meu filho Davi?”. Então começou a chorar
17 Whe Dauid had made an end of speaking these words to Saul, Saul sayd, Is this thy voyce, my sonne Dauid? and Saul lift vp his voice, and wept,
17 e disse a Davi: “Você é mais justo que eu, pois me pagou o mal com o bem.
18 And sayd to Dauid, Thou art more righteous then I: for thou hast rendred me good, and I haue rendred thee euill.
18 Sim, você foi extremamente bondoso comigo, pois o S enhor me entregou em suas mãos, mas você não me matou.
19 And thou hast shewed this day, that thou hast dealt well with me: forasmuch as when the Lord had closed me in thine hands, thou killedst me not.
19 Quem mais deixaria seu inimigo escapar quando o tinha em suas mãos? Que o S enhor o recompense com o bem pela bondade que mostrou por mim hoje.
20 For who shall finde his enemie, and let him depart free? wherefore the Lord render thee good for that thou hast done vnto me this day.
20 Agora vejo que certamente você será rei, e que o reino de Israel prosperará sob seu governo.
21 For now behold, I know that thou shalt be King, and that the kingdome of Israel shall be stablished in thine hand.
21 Jure-me pelo S enhor que, quando isso acontecer, você não eliminará minha família nem destruirá meus descendentes!”.
22 Sweare now therfore vnto me by the Lord, that thou wilt not destroy my seede after me, and that thou wilt not abolish my name out of my fathers house.
22 Então Davi fez a Saul esse juramento. Saul voltou para casa, mas Davi e seus homens foram para sua fortaleza.
23 So Dauid sware vnto Saul, and Saul went home: but Dauid and his men went vp vnto ye hold.
